Chapter 17 - The Proposal

'How can she be the director?' Katy thought to herself as she clearly remembered that the initial director of Gior, who had risen to the rank of chairman after the agency had expanded, was a man named 'Tom Beckeral'.

There was no mention of a woman named 'Tracy Watson' in the Gior's history, which she was aware of.

'Just what is happening here?' Katy thought to herself as her brows creased.

Tracy, however, wasn't bothered by Katy's reaction and just took it as a surprise before gesturing towards the men who were sitting beside her.

"To my right is Tom Beckeral, the Executive Manager and to my left are William Reaves and Tim Sulliver, the Talent and Support Manager, respectively."

When Katy heard the familiar name, she immediately turned towards the man sitting on the director's right, as an assumption rose in her mind.

'Does that mean she left the agency in her previous life, and then Tom took the reins? But still, being the founding director, Tracy's name shouldn't have been erased like that.'

"Now that you know who we are, let's start your contract signing procedure, shall we?" Tracy asked with a smile.

"Yes, let's do it!" Samantha exclaimed with excitement, which brought Katy out of her thinking spiral.

A smile appeared on her face the next moment, and she too nodded.

'Whatever the case may be, what does that have to do with me. I'm an actor of Gior now, and that's all that matters,' Katy thought to herself and stopped thinking over it for now.

The two were then made to sit on chairs facing the four officials, and then the contract in a more detailed manner by the three managers.

"So, we won't be acting in any shows or films for the next six months?" Samantha asked with a frown.

"Yes, instead you'll be part of a Special Training Program for young actors which has been deliberately prepared by us to boost your performance the moment you make your debut.

During this period, you'll be paid a fixed stipend by us, which should be enough to cover your daily needs," The Executive Manager explained.

"This…" Samantha showed a hesitant expression and looked towards Katy.

"Let's do it," Katy said and nodded towards her.

Samantha finally nodded and continued to listen to the manager's briefing. Meanwhile, the gaze that Tracy was directing towards Katy all this while only intensified after she witnessed the small exchange between Samantha and her.

After the briefing was over, Katy and Samantha finally picked up the pen and signed their name on the contract pages.

"Welcome to Gior." Tracy looked at the two of them with a smile and continued, "Counting the two of you, we have four actors in total now."

After stating that, Tracy looked towards Samantha and said, "The Special Training Program will be starting next week, and it will be a full residential program. The details will be sent to you via mail. Is that clear?"

"Yes, ma'am," Samantha replied the next instant. She couldn't help but feel nervous around Tracy's presence.

Tracy nodded at her words and then looked towards the managers who were sitting next to her and nodded at them.

The three of them stood the very next moment and left the meeting room under Samantha's and Katy's confused eyes.

"Good, now Samantha, can you wait outside for a bit. I have something to discuss in private with your friend here," Tracy said while gesturing towards Katy, who couldn't help but frown seeing how things were unfolding.

"A-Alright, I'll be going then," Samantha stood up the next moment, glanced at Katy, who looked as confused as her and left the meeting room.

Silence engulfed the meeting room. The very next moment, instead of saying anything, Tracy just stared at Katy.

A sense of unease rose in Katy's mind, and just when she was about to ask something, Tracy opened up a file that was lying in front of her and pulled a page out of it.

Passing the page towards Katy, she said, "Sign it. It's a non-disclosure agreement. Irrespective of what choice you make later on, you must not disclose the conversation we had just now to anyone."

"This…" Katy couldn't help but look towards Tracy with an inquisitive expression.

"I'll answer your doubts after you've signed it," Tracy stated without a change in her expression.

As a result, Katy picked the agreement in her hand and read through it just in case. It was only when she was sure that it was indeed a non-disclosure agreement that she signed it.

Tracy took the agreement from her and placed it back in her file.

"Alright, now let me ask you a question, Katy," Tracy smiled to liven the earlier atmosphere and asked, "Are you fond of thriller spy movies?"

After signing such an agreement, Katy wasn't expecting to be asked such a silly question, as a frown appeared on her face, but she still answered the question, "Yes, I've watched a lot of those movies. They are fun to watch."

"Then if given a chance, would you want to become one as well?" Tracy immediately asked.

"What do you mean? I'm an actor, not a spy. Why would I be given a chance to be someone like that?" Katy questioned instead of answering. She felt a little irritated by such silly questions.

Tracy chuckled, hearing her reply, and said, "Yes, you are indeed an actor. A talented one at that who will make it big in the industry very soon. With your talent, your name will soon spread in the international markets as well.

At that point, it will be natural for you to be called for various sponsorship programs, foreign film shootings, and shows around the world.

While doing that, you would be meeting different people, form new contacts, learn new things…maybe even some secrets that one normally wouldn't be aware of."

Tracy's words slowed down as she finished her words and looked towards Katy's changing expression.

How could Katy not realise the meaning behind Tracy's words by now, but still she was finding it all too hard to believe.

At that time, as if to hit the nail on the head, Tracy finally asked Katy, "Katy, would you like to be part of the National Intelligence Agency?"

'This!' Katy's mouth dried up the very next moment as she looked towards Tracy with an expression of disbelief, as a variety of thoughts flooded her mind.
