Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

Czarina

I threw myself on the bed, feeling exhausted as I tried to make sense of all of this.

So, what's next?

I wasn't sure myself, but I knew I had to go to school sooner or later, with less than a week of preparation.

And right now, that seems to be the most important thing I need to take care of.

For now, anything other than that seems to be the least of my problems.

I sat upright as soon as I heard a notification from my laptop.

I remember not having a phone at the time since my parents wanted me to learn how to use a laptop and a computer. I later on got into hacking because of that, and that was how I began my career in the agency.

Luckily, I still remembered the password and how to operate the outdated model despite my vague memory.

I checked to see what it was and found out it was a message from Caleb — my brother!

And if you're wondering, yes, he's the very one that filed the application form for Aurelia in my name, something that I admittedly didn't expect.

I opened his message and knowing his mischievous personality, I could tell from his typings how pleased he must've been with how things were going here.

Caleb: Czaaarr, you probably already know by now, don't you?hehe~

Well, I wanted to tell you about it beforehand. But Chloe thought it'd be better to make it a surprise for you, not just for mom and dad's. And believe me, I can imagine dad's fury the moment he answered my call earlier! Good thing I was able to convince him to think it all out before making his decision — at least for your sake (eye roll emoji). But anyways, mom told me their decision, and I'm guessing that means you got yourself a jackpot, huh? HAHA. You owe us one, Czar (sticking tongue out emoji).

"Gosh" was all I could say as I tried to recover from my surprise. Sure, I expected Caleb to pull these kinds of surprises on us, since he was practically the most cunning and fearless out of us three to actually have the guts to mess with our parents, but Chloe?!

I was definitely not expecting her to get involved. She was my eldest sister, and though she was stuck through thick and thin with her goofball of a twin, she was always the proper one who tried to be the perfect example as the eldest. Honestly speaking, she gained more of my respect than my parents ever did, and believe me, it wasn't just because of our huge age gap. But I wonder what made her want to play a role in Caleb's stunts this time.

And thinking about it all, I couldn't help but feel touched by what they've done for me. Even back in my previous life, they've always had my back. Though they never openly showed it, I could tell how much they loved me. And if they weren't always in and out with their missions, I have a feeling we could've had a fair opportunity to be closer.

I'd have a lot to ask them the next time we meet, that's for sure.

But right now, the next thing I need to figure out was where Kade or Kevin was.

My reason: since they were literally my only friends in my previous and current life, they were the only ones I could tell about going to Aurelia, other than my family.

And besides, I really want to see Kevin right now.

For more context, back in the past, he and I were sort of...a thing.

Not that we were lovers to begin with. We never had an official relationship, neither have we ever considered dating when we were older, thanks to our busy schedules. But we did have feelings for each other.

I first found out about his feelings when I was around 15 and when he was still around 17. I wasn't even supposed to know back then, but I did anyway. And since then, I've only started to notice how different his actions towards me were compared to how he treated everyone else.

And I admit, after finding out, that was when Ifirst started to develop feelings for him. We never told each other, but we both knew we already knew our feelings were mutual.

However, later on, we were struggling to catch up with each other since we were both so busy with our own responsibilities, especially after he and I joined different departments in the agency. We were so busy that we barely saw each other.

So, just like that, we only met once in a while, and even that seldom happened. The last time I saw him before getting reincarnated in this life was probably around five months or so, which was probably the longest time we've been apart. And, yeah, it was pretty heart-wrenching for my yearning soul.

That's why I was kind of hoping to see him today, which wouldn't be that hard since we practically lived in the same house, with a bit of boundaries, of course.

And I'm pretty sure mom already told the Preston's about what happened.

Fortunately, my instincts were right about it.

Less than an hour later, I heard a knock on my door. When I opened it, I found my parents fully dressed, indicating they were probably out for work now.

"We'll be off now," dad said, glancing at his phone with a furrowed brow lifted. My mom shot him a worried look before turning to me.

"We want to tell you in advance we won't be around for a few days or so since we have a lot of things to take care of in England. But we'd be back before school starts, so don't worry to much. There's fresh food in the fridge, but if you want to make something quick, there's processed food in the cupboards. Oh! And I forgot to mention, the boys Kade and Kevin are hanging out downstairs."

"They are?"

I would've been delighted at the news if I hadn't been in only just my pajamas with my hair in a total mess!

I closed the door halfway as soon as my parents were suddenly time-conscious, taking it as a chance to slip into a random hoodie I grabbed from my closet. And after a quick glance at the mirror, trying to check if I looked okay, before I rushed out of the room, feeling lowkey happy.
