Fighter sat cross-legged in the dark, adopting the lotus position as he thought aloud. He was attempting the manual [Process] described in the novel: searching within his own body.
In his mind's eye, he imagined his new body as a blank, endless space, and he was the seeker, hunting for the [Book]—the core object that governed his power. For those with a System, this internal search was unnecessary, as the System managed all aspects of the [Book] discovery and management. Fighter, lacking that digital helper, had to rely on the ancient method described in the lore.
The reason for finding the Book was paramount: it dictated his [Acting] and his [Name]. To advance to a higher Chapter, one had to consume the next appropriate Script, and the only way to identify the correct Script was by knowing the Book.
Time passed. His internal vision was just endless emptiness until, finally, he felt a presence deep within his abdominal area. It wasn't a sleek, new volume; it was dirty, severely worn out, full of holes, and barely resembled a Book at all. No sacred Book should look like this, he thought, disgusted.
As he focused his intent to investigate the object, his vision suddenly blurred. A sharp pain lanced through his head, and a deluge of new knowledge flooded his consciousness.
Fighter: "Spawn of Scrap. Huh!"
A high-pitched, triumphant ringing echoed in his mind.
Rechel: [Ding! Ding! Ding!]
Suddenly, a system-like interface, rendered in digital green text, appeared momentarily in his vision, supplied by the now-cooperative Rechel.
