Chapter 6 - Stairways to the door.

So that's it. A wry smile appeared on his lips. The fingerprint wasn't from outside.

It was from inside!!

Shen Yu unconsciously gripped hard on the chain he hadn't let go of. Green vein popping fiercely on the back of his palm.

The moment the cold breath approached, he steeled himself and swiftly turned around. He whipped the chain at it.

Shrill screams erupted as he continued swinging the chain aimlessly while running across the lobby.

Shen Yu didn't take the elevator but instead headed for the stairs.

He could bet on his name that it definitely won't work!

The chain was heavy and Shen Yu's arms throbbed with pain as he kept spining it around without stop. Smacking himself twice in the process.

Shit. Shit. Shen clenched his teeth, swallowing the pain.

It was as if the whole lobby was occupied with things he couldn't see. There was just light shadows flickering on the dirty ground.

Fortunately they were not too hard to handle.

Shen Yu arrived at the stairs in no time, scaling it two steps at a time.

He had already reached the second flow when he realised that they were no longer chasing him.

This is the third time I am running today. If teacher Wang was here to see me he defined might have passed out from happiness. Shen Yu sighed thinking of his PHE teacher.

Even him didn't knew he could run this fast until now.

At this point there wasn't any part of his body that didn't hurt. His clothes were half dried and dirty. There was even a large tear on the leg of his pant.

Shen Yu couldn't remember how it happened.

He scratched his head fiercely, looking up at the cold stairs that unraveled before him.

This was the second floor, so he had ten more to go.

"Just ten more." He whispered to himself. His palm was red and swollen from using the chain earlier. The pain in his abdomen didn't reduce in the slightest but he didn't dare check for fear of what he might see.

Shen Yu considered resting for a while but immediately shook the thought out of his head.

Let's hold on. I can get as much rest as I want when I am out of here. He thought, but there was this bitting 'what if' at the back of his mind.

What if he didn't make it?

The stairway was dark and cold. It was as if someone shoved him into a room filled with iced blocks.

"hah.... whatever. I won't think too much about it." Shen Yu voice bounced on the walls and sank into the prevailing silence.

Then he spoke up again. Ignoring the fact that he looked crazy.

"Right, I have already come this far. Not everyone can be as quick witted and smart as I am, brushing past death twice! Ghost or what not they will have to see if they can survive me fist first!" He nodded to himself solemnly. The brainwashing was already going white well until he turned around.

"Ahh....ummpp." Shen Yu scream was cut short as he clamped his hand on his mouth. His bulging eyes locked on the round head and two ponytails and his heart dropped from his throat, back to his chest.

"Don't you make a sound when you walk? You almost scared the shit out if me." He patted his chest, breathing through both his mouth and nose.

After claiming down, he put his hand into his hoodie pocket and took out the music box he had almost forgotten about. "Here. No need to keep following me. You can go back now."

This must be the reason she keeps appearing. He thought. Hau Lian was strong but he didn't want to take advantage of her. And she might not naturally help him. What if she changed her mind and decided to kill him instead?

It was better to send the little ancestor away now. He thought to himself.

Surprise clouded Hau Lian's face.

"Here. I am giving it back to you." Having figured out that she was just a little brat who won't actively harm others.

No, let's rephrase that. Shen Yu thought and changed his words.

Might not actively harm others. He was not that afraid of her anymore.

He grabbed her small cold hands, shuddering as he placed the small, square, box in it.

"Be a good girl and don't go around setting people on fire." He figured out that the box must be important to her. It might be the only thing she had of her parent. As a fellow ophan, Shen Yu was very empathetic. "You should also try letting go of the past."

After saying that, he turned around and continued up the stairs.

Hau Lian stood on the same spot, her dark emotionless eyes were fixed on her hands like they were some kind of weird things.

Warm. They felt warm.

As he climbed up, the chill increased and the temperature continued to drop.

It was as if he was hiking up mount everest and not a staircase anymore.

Unrelentingly, the cold draft clinged onto him. Shen Yu gritted his teeth as each step he took made him feel like he weighed a tonne.

Slowly his neck started to hunch, like there was an invisible weight sitting on his back.

Shen Yu continued to walk oblivious to this. Just a bit more...just a bit...

Then he can go home and then forget about this nightmare.

But why should he go back? Another voice argued in his head. There was no one to go back to.

Wasn't it better for him to stay here?

He should just stay.

Yes. This was where he belongs.

Shen Yu's footsteps faltered and his gaze turned dazed.

Suddenly a slow tune started to play from his blossom.

Shen Yu frooze then the fog in his eye cleared out. He was terrified to realised he was now walking back back down not u anymore.
