Coccette POV
I fell asleep almost instantly that night.
Too easily.
My breathing grew heavier, slower-until the dream crept in. Frost. Too close. His presence pressing in, suffocating, wrong. I tried to move, to scream, but my body wouldn't listen.
Then-
I jolted awake.
My sheets clung to my skin, damp with sweat, my heart pounding violently against my ribs. I sucked in a sharp breath and pressed a hand to my chest.
Thank God it was only a dream.
Or rather-a nightmare.
I forced myself out of bed and stumbled into the bathroom, splashing cold water onto my face. I stared at my reflection, eyes too awake, thoughts too loud.
"Why would I dream of Frost doing that to me..." I whispered, my jaw tightening. "And why am I thinking about Alaric now of all times?"
I ran my fingers through my hair and exhaled slowly.
Enough.
Revenge is my priority.
Coccette, you can do this.
I left my room still wrapped in my pajamas and glanced at the clock. 8:00 a.m. Late. Frost was definitely already at the company.
The coffee machine roared to life, filling the kitchen with its familiar noise-and then the smell hit me. Rich. Bitter. Comforting.
My Roman Empire.
I smiled despite myself and poured a cup.
"Coccette," I murmured, gripping the mug, "stay away from both of them. Focus on revenge. On your allies-Betha, Ray, Alex. That's it."
I got ready quickly, choosing comfort over intimidation today. Black pants. A simple white top. A black jacket. No heels-just sneakers. I wasn't dressing to impress anyone. Not today.
As I reached for the door, my phone buzzed.
Ray: Hey. Can you come to my company today with Betha and Alex?
I replied immediately.
Me: Sure. I have work first, then we'll come. It's about my company-the Tasty Food pizza project, right?
Ray: Good, little thing. I'll be waiting. And yes-I want to help more, especially against Frost. He's a marketing genius. You'll need support.
I smiled.
Me: Thank you, Ray.
I could almost hear his chuckle through the screen.
Ray: Anything for my little thing.
My little thing.
Why did that make my heart flutter-just a little?
I shook my head, smiling as I locked my phone.
This heart of mine might struggle. It might wander where it shouldn't.
But I won't lose.
Revenge comes first. Always.
