By the time Emiya and Wiz returned to Axel, it was already late at night.
Through Emiya's intentional conversation, the two had gotten closer on the way back, becoming not only business partners but also friends at least, that's what Emiya thought.
When Wiz found out that Emiya was a novice adventurer, she offered to teach him some useful skills.
If Emiya wanted to learn, she was even willing to teach him how to use Lich skills, but he would need enough skill points, since, as a King of the Undead, a Lich's skills were not cheap.
The two parted ways on a street in Axel.
Before they separated, Wiz gave Emiya her shop's business card, and Emiya promised that he would come to visit her shop if he had time.
As Emiya walked back to the mansion, he had a smile on his face the whole time. He had met Wiz today, and not only could he learn more skills from her, but he also gained a friend.
In the future, if he encountered any tricky situations related to the undead, he could ask Wiz for help.
As a Lich who was proficient in various magics, Wiz was
definitely very powerful.
Not counting a few cheating characters, Wiz was at the top tier of power, just below the gods.
Even Orario's "final weapon" wouldn't be a match for Wiz.
Truth be told, Emiya was happy that he was able to win Wiz over. So, his smile didn't fade on his way back to the mansion.
But the moment Emiya stepped into the mansion, his smile froze. Everyone, including Riveria and Ais, was waiting for him.
But that wasn't the point.
The point was the woman, or rather, the girl, standing in front of Emiya.
This delicate and slender girl, who looked no older than 12 or 13 and wore an eye patch over one eye, pulled her cloak and swung it dramatically.
"My name is Megumin! My profession is Arch-Wizard, and I use the most powerful attack magic, Explosion... Ow!"
Emiya expressionlessly grabbed her eye patch and stretched it outward, then let it go.
The eye patch snapped back at a rapid speed, hitting her face hard. And just like that, the self-proclaimed Arch-Wizard, Megumin, was easily defeated by Emiya.
She squatted on the ground, holding her face and trembling.
Most of the people there looked at Emiya in disbelief.
Only one person was shaking with excitement, muttering something about a sadist and wanting to try it herself.
She was even considering buying an eye patch the next day. Emiya pretended he didn't hear her. He rubbed his temples, feeling his good mood evaporate.
"So, what's going on? Why is she here?"
Aqua, Kazuma, and Darkness all looked at Riveria. Emiya also looked at Riveria.
Riveria sighed and said, "I ran into this little girl on my way back today. She was so hungry she couldn't walk, and I couldn't just leave her there, so I brought her back."
"I see." Emiya understood.
He wasn't surprised at all, since Megumin was indeed a useless mage. Despite being an Arch-Wizard, she could only use one magic: Explosion.
And she could only cast it once a day. After one use, all her mana was depleted, and she was left defenseless.
This kind of person was not only useless to an adventurer party, but she would also become a burden.
That's why not many people in the novice adventurer town of Axel were willing to take in Megumin. And because of her Explosion magic, she couldn't complete quests and earn money, so it was only natural for her to be hungry.
Emiya remembered that in the original story, when Megumin met Kazuma and Aqua, she hadn't eaten for three days.
But even then, she was still unwilling to give up
Explosion magic.
Without a doubt, she was also a problem child. No, to be more precise, it wasn't just Megumin; the entire Crimson Demon Clan was full of problem children.
Their way of thinking was completely different from that of ordinary people. Because of this, Emiya had never planned to recruit Megumin.
But to his surprise, even though Emiya didn't go out to recruit her, she still appeared in front of him.
Is this the inertia of the plot?
"So, you want to keep her?" Emiya looked at Riveria.
Riveria nodded and asked, "Is that okay?"
Emiya wasn't really interested in chuunibyou, and he didn't find them cute either. This was one of the reasons why he hadn't recruited Megumin.
But since she had already shown up, he wasn't going to just throw her out either.
"Kazuma, I'll leave Megumin in your care."
So Emiya handed the task of taking care of Megumin to Kazuma. After all, in the original story, the two of them became a couple.
"Huh? Me?" Kazuma was quite surprised.
Emiya nodded. "That's right. I'll have to trouble you."
"I-I understand." Kazuma nodded. Since Emiya had asked, he couldn't refuse. And he did think Megumin was a cute girl.
Megumin, seeing that Emiya agreed to let her stay, immediately thanked him. "Thank you." To be honest, she was very happy to have found a party willing to take her in.
"You're welcome." Emiya said calmly. "From now on, you'll be acting with Kazuma."
"I understand." Megumin nodded. She walked to Kazuma and swung her cloak. "My name is Megumin, the foremost Arch-Wizard of the Crimson Demon Clan. I look forward to working with you."
"Oh, I look forward to working with you too." Kazuma sighed helplessly, resigned to his fate, seeing Megumin's chuunibyou-filled behaviour.
Emiya continued, "Alright, it's getting late. Everyone, get some rest. Kazuma, take Megumin to choose a room."
Kazuma nodded and said to Megumin, "Come with me."
Megumin obediently followed Kazuma.
Emiya looked at everyone else and said, "The same goes for all of you. Get some rest and come back with a better mindset and a fresh face tomorrow."
Riveria stood up from the sofa and said to Ais, "Let's go
rest." Ais nodded.
Darkness stretched. "Good night, everyone."
"Good night," Aqua said.
"Good night," Emiya said.
And so, the night passed quietly.
