Emiya smiled, put down his phone, and pushed open an air-made door.
On the other side was Vermouth's-or rather, Sharon Vineyard's-villa.
As a Hollywood celebrity, Sharon Vineyard's address was publicly available. She lived in a Beverly Hills villa that had even been photographed by paparazzi. Emiya had no trouble locating it online.
Of course, as a woman of mystery, Vermouth had multiple residences, many of which were unknown to the public. But at that moment, using her Sharon Vineyard persona, she was at this villa.
Emiya stepped through the air door and saw a woman sitting on a sofa, holding her phone, staring blankly at his sudden appearance.
Even Emiya paused for a moment.
The woman-casually dressed, legs crossed-was undeniably Vermouth.
He had assumed she was constantly on the move as a member of the Organization. That she was here, in the villa, was unexpected.
For a moment, a smile unconsciously appeared on Emiya's face.
"Good evening... no, good morning here, Miss Vermouth."
Conan stepped through the air door behind him.
"What is this place... Sharon Vineyard?!"
He, too, was shocked to see Vermouth.
"This is America," Emiya said cheerfully.
"The good ol' U.S.A., where gunfights happen every day. And this beautiful lady? The big Hollywood star, mysterious Vermouth of the Organization... and my subordinate."
Vermouth rolled her eyes.
"I haven't agreed to become your subordinate yet."
"Oh?" Emiya replied.
"Even now, you want to refuse me?"
Her eyes flickered.
"How did you do that?"
"You mean this?" Emiya moved to the side, revealing the air door behind him.
Vermouth nodded.
"It's simple. I just did this," he said, raising his hand and pushing the air, forming a doorway.
The door opened behind Vermouth, letting her see her own back.
Even a fool would react.
"This... is a superpower!"
"Yes. And standing in front of you is a genuine superpowered person," Emiya said calmly, closing the air door.
Vermouth took a deep breath to calm herself.
"Is this why you're not afraid of the Organization? Because you have superpowers?"
"Isn't that enough?" Emiya asked.
"Superpowered people are still human," Vermouth said.
"Humans can be killed."
"You don't know me yet," Emiya replied.
"What you see is just one of my powers. I know many abilities, even some magical spells. It's not easy to kill me-at least, the Organization can't."
Vermouth fell silent for a moment.
"No wonder you don't worry about the Organization."
Emiya laughed.
"Alright, we've talked enough. You should give me an answer. Will you join me?"
Her eyes flickered again. She paused, thinking.
Emiya didn't rush her.
He walked over, sat across from her, and sipped coffee leisurely.
Conan sat next to him.
"I'll have a cup too," Conan said.
"You can," Emiya replied, handing him one.
Vermouth asked, "Is this also your superpower?"
"That's right. Matter creation from nothing."
He casually produced a necklace with 100 embedded diamonds and placed it on the table.
"Agree to join me, and you can have as many as you want."
Emiya then created a large assortment of pearl, diamond, and gemstone necklaces, piling them before her.
Vermouth was stunned.
She had never seen so much treasure at once-priceless items, showpieces for any jewelry store.
"No wonder you're unconcerned with money. You just gave away a billion dollars without a second thought. You're not short on cash at all."
"That's right," Emiya nodded.
"To me, money is limitless. Want a billion? A hundred billion? No problem."
Vermouth rubbed her temples.
"You're purely trying to overwhelm me with money."
Emiya smiled nonchalantly.
"Who is this kid? Your subordinate?"
"This isn't a kid. He's your friend Yukiko Kudo's son, Shinichi Kudo."
"What?" Vermouth was stunned, then laughed.
"I thought Yukiko's son was a high schooler, not an elementary schooler."
Conan frowned.
"I am Shinichi Kudo. I became like this because of APTX4869."
Vermouth's eyes widened.
Emiya explained,
"He ran into Gin, who he thought was bad, and got knocked out. Gin then administered APTX4869."
Vermouth said,
"APTX4869... that's a poison, right?"
"Yes. But it has side effects," Emiya replied.
"Shrinking?" she guessed.
"Precisely. Reverses aging. In his case, it saved his life."
Conan looked bitter. He couldn't deny it-he was alive only because of it.
Vermouth sighed.
"You're lucky."
"I know," Conan said.
Emiya took another sip of coffee.
"Have you made up your mind?"
Vermouth considered.
"I can agree, but if a mission I don't want to do comes up, I want the right to refuse."
"Okay," Emiya said.
"But you can only refuse once."
She nodded.
"Fine. From now on, you're my boss. What mission do you have for me now that you've given me a billion dollars?"
"I haven't decided yet. Stand by for now. And the billion dollars..."
"What about it?"
"It's yours. Use it as you like," Emiya said.
With Vermouth secured, he no longer cared about the money-after all, to him, it was meaningless.
Emiya waved at Conan.
"Let's go."
Conan nodded and followed Emiya through the air door back to Professor Agasa's house.
Vermouth remained in thought at the villa, lost in silence.
At Agasa's house, Conan tilted his head.
"Do you think Vermouth will really obey? What if she tries to trick you?"
Emiya shrugged.
"If she tries, it's her loss, not mine. I've done what I needed to do. What can I do if she'd rather die than follow me? I'm not that kind of ruthless person."
Conan was speechless.
He had to admit Emiya was right.
With his ability to travel between worlds and endless resources-including Devil Fruits and other rare items-Vermouth's refusal would be her own loss.
Conan felt a little tempted too, but he couldn't bring himself to become Emiya's subordinate. He shook his head, letting things happen naturally.
Emiya, meanwhile, sat on the sofa, leisurely reading a Night Baron mystery novel, deep in thought.
