Chapter 207 - Chapter 18: Payment Received

As the second daughter of the Suzuki Financial Group, Sonoko Suzuki was no stranger to luxury. Even though she attended a normal high school like Teitan High, she had seen countless works of art and rare treasures thanks to her family. She understood the value of a diamond immediately.

"The Suzuki Financial Group will take this," Sonoko said decisively.

Emiya nodded. "Okay."

Selling to the Suzuki Financial Group was as good as using an auction house, and he didn't have to pay any commission.

"Do you have anything else? Show me everything," Sonoko said, her excitement growing.

"Conan mentioned you have more than one valuable item," Emiya replied.

He then produced a string of wooden beads.

"This is a necklace carved from a mysterious wood. The wood itself has no value, but it was blessed by a master and carries miraculous power."

"Miraculous power? What kind of power?" Sonoko asked.

"The power to make you immune to all diseases."

"Really?"

"Of course," Emiya replied. "If you don't believe me, you could break a bone, wear the necklace, and in a few seconds, your bone would heal."

"Hey, hey, hey..." Sonoko protested.

"That's a bit extreme. Who would actually break their bones?" Emiya said. "You can make a small cut on your hand instead."

"Isn't there a more normal way to demonstrate it?" Ran Mouri asked.

Emiya calmly replied, "How else can I show you its function in a normal way?"

Sonoko considered it and picked up a fruit knife.

"I'll give it a try," she said.

"No!" Ran snatched the knife. "A girl's skin is delicate. Conan should do this instead."

"What are you talking about? Conan is just a child," Sonoko said.

"Even as a child, he's still a boy," Ran said with a smile, her eyes narrowing at Conan.

"Am I right, Conan?"

Conan nodded stiffly. "Everything Ran-neechan says is correct."

Emiya chuckled. Ran had clearly been strict with Shinichi ever since discovering his identity.

Under Ran's watchful eye, Conan carefully made a small cut on his hand and placed the wooden bead necklace around it. A few seconds later, the cut had healed completely-no scar, no trace.

Sonoko's eyes gleamed. "Mr. Emiya, the Suzuki Financial Group will take this too, but I have a condition."

"Tell me," Emiya said.

"Where is the master who blessed this necklace? Do you have his contact? Introduce him to me. The Suzuki Financial Group will pay handsomely."

Emiya laughed inwardly. The "master" was actually him. He had enchanted the necklace himself with healing and disease-resistance effects.

"The master is out of the question," Emiya said. "He doesn't like ordinary people bothering him. But if you want more like this, I have a few others to give you."

"Thank you so much, Emiya-san," Sonoko said, eyes sparkling.

"But the price won't be cheap," Emiya warned.

"Name it."

"With these included, one billion U.S. dollars," he said.

"No problem," Sonoko said immediately, showing her true tycoon colors.

Emiya wasn't surprised. The Suzuki family was extremely wealthy. He recalled scenes from The Sunflowers of Inferno, where the family casually bid tens of millions of dollars at an auction. A billion dollars was just pocket change for them.

"Transfer the money to this account, and the items are yours," Emiya said, giving her Vermouth's account number.

Sonoko made an "OK" gesture and called the necessary people. Within moments, one billion dollars had been transferred to Vermouth's account.

"If you ever have more treasures, contact me. Our group will pay well," Sonoko said with a smile.

"I will," Emiya replied.

Once the Suzuki Financial Group's representatives left, Sonoko and Ran left as well, leaving Conan behind.

"Why aren't you leaving?" Emiya asked.

Conan scowled. "Ran and Sonoko have things to discuss. It's not suitable for me to stay."

Emiya just laughed.

"...I've always wondered," he continued casually. "Sonoko wanders around without a bodyguard every day. Why hasn't anyone tried to kidnap her? The city's security can't be that bad, can it?"

Conan shrugged. "Yeah, why is that?"

Before they could discuss further, Professor Agasa's phone rang. Emiya answered it.

"Received the money?" Vermouth's voice came through, filled with shock.

Emiya remained calm. "To us, a billion dollars or ten dollars isn't much different."

Vermouth asked cautiously, "What do you want me to do? Is this... my life insurance? If so, I refuse."

"I haven't thought that far yet. But don't worry-we won't send you to your death," Emiya replied.

"You haven't thought, but you already gave me a billion dollars. I never agreed to join you."

Emiya laughed. "It's too late, Miss Vermouth. The moment the money went into your account, you became one of us."

"Is this a threat?" she asked.

"No, a forced purchase," Emiya corrected.

Vermouth was silent.

"What if I refuse?"

Emiya smiled. "Refusal isn't a wise choice, Miss Vermouth."

"Planning to call the police?" she asked lightly.

"Do you think they can catch me?" Emiya replied.

Vermouth hesitated. Her disguise skills were incredible, allowing her to impersonate anyone, but in the end, her skills were just that-skills. Emiya's supernatural powers made him untouchable.

"I believe you'll change your mind soon, Miss Vermouth," he said.

"Is that so?" Vermouth replied, still unconvinced.
