Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 — unfinished

I can barely feel my legs. I've been running for god knows how long yet I feel like I'm still not far away enough. I don't deserve anything at all, especially you. I'm nothing but a monster, a monster that takes away the very things that make people special. I have to keep running. I have to get away. I have to leave. I can't stay here.

I trip over my hair as I fall face first into the dirt below. I look at my shaking hands, wondering why I have to be cursed like this. Droplets start to fall onto the palms of my hands as I cry. If there's a god out there, why must you make me suffer? I've begged and prayed for years to set me free and THIS is your twisted idea of freedom?

The ground around me starts to smoke, a fire appearing, spreading to the nearby trees. I quickly manage to get a hold of myself before it started a forest fire. This power isn't mine.. What right do I have to use it. Why must this world punish me this way. If I were to have lived a life like Lucian, would I even be here? Would I despise this ability like I am now, or would I accept it knowing it could bring good?

If only I were someone like him, I might've been praised for having this ability. This isn't fair, none of it is. Why must you live freely while I must suffer? Why must I hide, why must I run, why can't I stay along side you and be recognized? Why, why must I live. I didn't ask to be born, I didn't ask for this ability, I didn't ask to be yours. I didn't ask to be treated like a treasure to you. If you value me that much, I'll make sure you won't see me as anything other than a disappointment.

To see the disgust and betrayal on your face.. That's why I must live, that's why I was born, that's why I was given this ability, that's why you made me yours. My destiny, my entire existence was just meant to be your opposite, to make you shine.

Fine, I'll play along. I'll be everything you wouldn't even dare of thinking of being. I'll be your opposite, your shadow. I'll be the villain in your perfect story, because that's the only role that suits me.

Opening my eyes, the bustling sound of people and cars awake me from my nap. I sat in an alleyway with a hat covering my face, my clothes now dirty with dust and the smell of cigarettes. That's what I get for sleeping in a random alleyway next to the trash bin. I sat up, lowering my cap. My attention was immediately caught by the people whispering and swarming around someone.

Wings so beautiful it may as well have been ripped off by an angel. Eyes such an ethereal blue that it could blend into the sky. Hair so white and silky one could compare it to silk strings. Lucian, the number one hero. Not only gifted in looks but in power as well. He truly was the perfect person.. A far cry from what I've been.

It's been years since I last came to Fortun, so much has changed in this place yet the one thing that remained the same is Lucian. He still attracts the eyes of everyone everywhere he goes, and he still holds such a pained expression no one else can notice. This is it, this is what I've been destined for all this time.

Let me be your perfect rival.
