POV Naynah
" Naynah" called a voice
" Who are you?" I said
" It doesn't matter who I am." said the person
" Then why can I see you?" I asked
"Don't be so cold." said the person
"You don't get to give me orders." I replied
" My dear, it's up to you to discover the truth about what happened." said the person
" About what!?" I asked
"About everything since the beginning of the rivalry between us—sorcerers and vampires. You must form an alliance." explained the person
" What the hell!??" I said
" You..." start the person but I wake up with a jolt after my aunt Athena pushed me off the bed.
" Lazy girl, wake up! You're going to be Alpha and you're still sleeping." said auntie imitating my mother's voice
She really does a good imitation of my mother.
" Great impression, Auntie." I said
" What!?" she asked, confused
" I know it's you, not my mother " I said
" Go get ready before your mother, the Alpha, gets here." she said
" Where is she?" I asked
"She left early this morning. Come on, no time to waste." she replied
She leaves. I sit up. You can probably guess why they call my mother "Alpha," right? Well, she went against the belief that only men have the right to be called Alpha, and that women should just stand beside them as Lunas—even though we can be stronger than them. When my father died, my mother never took another mate and declared herself Alpha, since she's the blood daughter of the former Alpha. I know she must have suffered deeply from my father's death. Losing a mate can drive you mad... even lead to suicide.
And now, my damn vision got cut short because I woke up suddenly. It's the first time I've ever had a vision. At least I'm not in trouble. I take a quick shower and change into my combat gear. My aunt comes back with a tray of food, wearing a warm smile I can't bring myself to return. First rule of being an Alpha: never show your emotions.
" Enjoy your meal, sweetheart." said auntie
I start eating while reminding myself of the rules. Rule #2: Never apologize. Rule #3: Never say thank you.
" What are you doing today?" she asked
" Another intense training session with Beta X-zan." I answered
Since I was six years old, my mother has forced me to train like an adult to be strong enough to face our enemies. Which basically means I'm her war weapon.
" Why not take a break?" suggested auntie
" You know the Alpha won't allow it. She says my wolf hasn't awakened yet—when it should have at 15." I said
" I know, sweetheart . But don't torment yourself." she said
For us, the royal bloodline, the wolf is supposed to appear earlier—at 15. Suddenly, I feel a strong wind. Someone is standing in the distance, even though the fog is thick.
" Werewolves are among the most powerful. An alliance must be reformed to defeat evil. Future Alpha of Silver Moon, unite with the future Vampire Lord... the hybrid." said a voice
" What!?" I shouted
" You are a blessed wolf, as you already know. With your power, you can bring justice and restore bonds. You will be a great Alpha. I salute you, Great Alpha of Silver Moon." said the voice
The fog starts to fade as the figure disappears. My aunt shakes me.
" Naynah, what's going on?" asked auntie
" Auntie, you saw it too, right?" I said
" What are you talking about? I didn't see anything." said auntie
" The fog, the voice ..." I said, confused
"Sweetheart, are you okay?" asked auntie
" It's nothing. I'm going to training." I replied
Okay. Remind me, when I become Alpha, maybe a psychiatric hospital wouldn't be such a bad idea.
"That won't be necessary." said a voice
Oh, I forgot to introduce her. That's my wolf. I got her when I was 14. They say the earlier a wolf awakens, the stronger it is. My mom says the normal transformation for Alpha blood is at the fifteenth birthday. Mine came at fourteen. Her name is Ava. She keeps her aura hidden because we're... special. She can take over while masking her aura. A special wolf is born with gifts. Mine are mind-reading and the ability to see the past, though only as memories.
" You also know we can see movements 20 seconds before they strike, right?" said Ava
"What's that talk about a hybrid?" I asked
" From what I know, it's a werewolf's blood mixed with a sorcerer's" she said
"So, like… a hybrid species?" I asked
I start walking while speaking to her mentally.
" We're going to training. I want to teach that b***h a lesson." said Ava
" For once, I agree. She's a real b***h." I said
" So I get to kick her ass?" said Ava
" No, you know we have to stay low-key." I said
"You do realize the Vampire Lord's title ceremony is soon, right?" asked Ava
" Damn it…" I replied to her
"And you also know he's going to name his son as successor when he turns 20." she continued explaining
" Which means we have to be fully prepared in case he attacks." I said
I arrive at the training grounds and glance at Alison with a smile.
" Naynah, hurry up! Training already started. You're late." said the beta, X-zan.
" I'm coming." I said
I walk toward the obstacle course while stretching my muscles.
