The snail morphed, taking on the scarred, sneering face of Spandam.
"Captain Nezumi," Spandam voice came sharp and irritated, "do you have any idea who you're calling? This had better be important."
Nezumi could feel pressured through the snails, even though the man couldn't see him.
"Of course, Chief Spandam. I wouldn't disturb you unless I had something… valuable. Something that might interest CP9 itself."
Spandam raised an eyebrow. "Go on, then. If this is about some fishmonger dispute in East Blue, I'll...."
"It's about a pirate," Nezumi interrupted quickly. "There was a pirate named Jack F Corrie, he is under strawhat pirates, he had an ability to turn something into gold."
Spandam frowned, unimpressed. "Gold? Did he eat the devil fruit."
Nezumi's grin widened. "Yes, I saw first hand he changed a block of tree into a golden tree and unfortunately I couldn't beat him and capture him."
"Useless, but don't worry because you asked me so I will take care of him for you," replied Spandam.
Upon hearing this Nezumi become happy, the injury he received from Jack is still throbbed in pain and every few minutes he groaned in pain.
"Did the boy beat you?" continued Spandam.
"Yes, my navi are trying to attack him but he is too strong, by the way hi captain is a a boy named Monkey D. Luffy."
The Den Den Mushi froze, Spandam's snail face going still before narrowing its eyes.
"Monkey D…? Another one D? Now this brat?"
"Yes," Nezumi nodded. "And I thought it best that you be informed directly. If I sent this through proper Navy channels, it might look… like I was abusing my authority. But if it reaches you…"
Spandam smirked, leaning back in his chair. "Hah… clever little rat. Yes, if this reached Marine Headquarters, they'd ask why you're abusing the villagers there instead of protecting it. But through me? I can make use of it."
Nezumi chuckled. "By the way, I also included the video where that scum turned something into gold"
"Send it to me," ordered Spandam.
After seeing the video, Spandam become greedy again.
"He is too strong for me a marine in east blue, but I believe with CP 9 he is too weak," Nezumi trying to convince spandam.
"Of course," Spandam said coldly. "Send everything to me. CP9 will deal with it. The Navy doesn't need to know a thing. Consider this the beginning of… a profitable partnership."
Nezumi's grin grew wider as the call ended. He stared at the photo of Jack and the rest of the crew.
"Justice and profit… yes. Both will be mine, who told you to do this to me, OUCH."
...
Spandam slammed the stack of reports shut, his scarred face twisting into an uneasy grin.
"Monkey D. Luffy…" he muttered to himself. "Grandson of that hero of marines Garp and son of Dragon, the most wanted man alive."
He leaned back in his chair, eyes staring at the ceiling as if the weight of the names themselves pressed down on him.
"Hah… if I, Spandam, can find this out with a few strings pulled, then surely the World Government and the Marines already know. Yes… they must. There's no way I, of all people, could uncover what they couldn't. I'd be a fool to think otherwise."
He laughed nervously, though the sound echoed uncomfortably in his room. His pride as chief of CP9 still flared, but the thought of killing Dragon bloodline directly made even him feel a sting of fear.
"No… the higher-ups have their reasons. They just don't know where is he hiding, that is why even marine and world government failed to catch the criminal." His eyes narrowed. "I just wanted Jack F Corrie and not the boy himself."
He slammed his palm against the desk, rattling the Den Den Mushi.
"CP9! All of you! Assemble we have more urgent mission!"
It took quite a while for all the CP9 to come to the meeting because of the distance between Water 7 and the HQ of CP9
Finally, one by one, Lucci with his cold and unreadable gaze, Kaku adjusting his square nose, Kalifa pushing up her glasses, and Blueno looming silently behind.
Spandam raised his chin, relishing the authority he held over the most lethal force under Cipher Pol.
"We have new orders. We're leaving Water 7."
Kalifa blinked. "Leaving? But our mission...."
"Our mission is wherever I command it to be!" Spandam snapped, then smirked. "And right now, I command we head to East Blue. There's a boy named Monkey D. Luffy… causing a stir. His grandfather is Vice Admiral Garp, his father the revolutionary Dragon. He's drawing attention. Too much attention and our job is to capture his vice captain Jack F Corrie"
Kaku tilted his head. "East Blue is the weakest sea. For us to go there seems like overkill."
Spandam jabbed a finger at the desk. "That's why! Nobody expects the government strongest unit to go there and our mission is to take this man, Jack F Corrie he had ability that we truly needed…" He licked his lips with ambition.
Lucci finally spoke, his tone calm, almost bored. "Ok... don't worry, I will make sure we will capture him"
Spandam froze for a moment, then forced a grin. "Then you will crush him, Lucci. That's why I have you. That's why CP9 exists!"
He turned back toward the map pinned against the wall, his finger slamming down on the point marked Loguetown.
"Set sail immediately. Our destination is Loguetown. The place where the Pirate King was executed. Hah… how fitting that the grandson of Garp and son of Dragon will meet his fate there as well."
The agents gave no reply, but the air grew heavier as the room filled with silent acceptance.
Spandam laughed, a shrill sound that echoed down the CP9 corridors.
"Monkey D. Luffy… your journey ends before it even begins!"
