Sandra made sure all six wagons had equal weights when loaded
with the supplies. They started the journey, one squad assigned to each wagon,
then one squad walking in front of the procession acting as scouts, and the
last one guarding the rear. Micheal and Sandra rode their horses independently,
with the two hounds and the young wolf following Sandras commands, trailing
behind her. The first few miles were difficult, as they had to clear trees and
vegetation for the wagons to fit through, but they eventually made it to
Interstate. Travel then was much easier, but they only traveled about
twenty miles when the sun was starting to set. Each squad assigned two hours of
sentry duty, making sure they all had adequate rest. They also rotated duties
driving the wagons to allow breaks from their walking. Michael traveled in
front with the Scout team, he and the Stud he now called Killer, had settled
into a better relationship, Killer rarely bucked, kicked, or bit anyone unless
they irritated him. Helen was the Squad Leader of the Scout group. She managed
to shoot a couple of deer when a small herd crossed in front of them, hitting
two with one shot, Micheal rode out front and guarded them until the wagons
caught up. Wolves had been spotted numerous times on both sides of road, and he
knew they were following them as they traveled. They halted and started
processing the deer, Sandra rode forward and suggested they only take the rear
quarters and leave the rest for the wolves. Michael just grunted at her
suggestion, she laughed and said, you do owe them. And they will be less likely
to attack if they are fed. Michael thought about how large the pack was and
ordered the front and rear teams to shoot any large game that came into sight,
he could not argue with her logic, and his army needed the practice. Maybe if
the wolves fed enough, they would stop following. They had traveled far and
managed to make it to the overpass where Michael had camped before. His
soldiers managed to take down two more deer along the way which they left for
the wolves' miles back. But this time they made fires and had a hot meal. The
next day Helen made an incredible shot that brought down an Elk, again they
only took the rear quarters, it was more meat than they could use before it
spoiled. Finally on the fourth day they made it to the colony. Mathew, Jhon and
the rest of the residents greeted them excitedly. They unloaded the wagons and
all the stuff they had requested then sorted and distributed. Sandra had chosen
to bring several cases of metal cups, plates, knives, forks, and cooking pots.
She was extremely popular with the ladies of the Colony. Jhon was emotional as he laid out all the
wood working tools, cables, ropes, kegs of nails and much more. Mathew on the other hand was excited by the
huge cooking pots, kegs and piping. Time to make decent beer and wine he
declared. Michael also gifted each adult, rifles and pistols, but warned them
that ammunition is limited. Michael said, there is also a case of bows and
arrows, I would recommend all the people here learn archery.
