Chapter 28 - The Vision Eye

The layer of reinforced glass that had sealed and contained The Vision Eye cracked. Suddenly, the room was bathed in brilliant light. The Vision Eye manifested, radiating a dazzling white glow, before the glass casing shattered with a resounding crash. Its form shot up into the sky, as if returning to its true master.

Meanwhile, Kai was being pummeled by Macto's relentless fists when a beam of white light shot down from the sky. Beneath the colossal building that served as Macto's base, the light struck Macto, sending him flying into the wall, leaving deep cracks. He struggled to rise again.

Seeing this, Kai, lying still for a moment, muttered,

"What… is that?" as he reached out toward the glowing light in the sky.

The Vision Eye descended toward Kai. He stretched out and grabbed it, and instantly it shot into his right eye, which had been closed and wounded from the battle. Slowly, Kai rose to his feet once more.

Macto, witnessing this, was shocked. He exclaimed,

"No… no… The Vision Eye… it should be mine, not some kid like you!"

With The Vision Eye now in his possession, Kai's right eye shone with white light. He stood up again, fully aware of his newfound power.

Macto lunged forward, aiming a kick at Kai's neck. But Kai dodged and countered with a rapid series of punches. He could evade every strike.

"Whoa… I can see all of his moves… as if I know everything he's about to do," Kai thought.

Macto's punches rained down, but Kai timed his dodges perfectly, retaliating with devastating blows. The force sent Macto flying back, slamming into the wall. Kai planted his feet firmly and prepared for the next attack.

"This… is the power of The Vision Eye? I can dodge all his attacks?"

Macto struck again, landing a punch to Kai's face. Kai raised his hand in time to block, then countered with a flurry of punches, dodging and striking in perfect rhythm. The battle raged on, neither willing to yield.

Macto aimed a right punch and a kick at Kai's left leg, but Kai blocked with his arms and fists. He lifted his leg to defend and retaliate, delivering a powerful blow to Macto's torso, sending him crashing violently into the wall.

Kai seized the opportunity, rushing in with relentless punches. His mind focused on one goal: avenging Eugene. Blood streamed from Macto's nose. One eye closed, he coughed up blood.

Grabbing the chain around Macto's neck, Kai pulled him closer and delivered a direct punch to the face, followed by a full-force kick to the stomach. Macto coughed up blood again, collapsing to the ground.

Macto weakly muttered,

"Why… didn't you choose me, The Vision Eye…"

His thoughts drifted back to his childhood. He remembered meeting the ruler of the Eastern Continent, who had protected his city from a dwarf planet that threatened to destroy the world—and who had effortlessly defeated him with a single strike. Young Macto had been inspired, desiring immense power to help people, only to later be corrupted by it.

Now defeated, Macto looked at Kai, realizing his mistakes. Kai ceased his attack, exhausted and in pain, and spoke with a trembling voice,

"You wanted to be a protector, didn't you? So why are you doing this? Have you forgotten, Macto?"

Macto slowly rose, battered and broken, and said,

"The Vision Eye… it chose you… That means you are worthy."

Then, he leapt away, flying at incredible speed to another location, questioning in his mind,

"Is this really what I wanted…? What do I truly seek?"

The battle concluded. Rese emerged from hiding, tending to Kai and Eugene with all her knowledge and skills. She placed them near a wall and spoke softly,

"I'm sorry… I couldn't do anything…"

Kai replied,

"It's okay, Rese. You're safe, and that's what matters. You haven't failed. Your purpose is to help others. Now, focus on treating Eugene first."

Hope returned to Rese's eyes. She immediately began administering first aid to Eugene. Once finished, Kai carefully lifted Eugene and carried him to the spaceship, with Rese walking beside him. She laid Eugene on a bed in the ship.

"He's still breathing… good. Rest now, my friend."

Meanwhile, Macto landed elsewhere and encountered a man with short brown hair, standing two meters tall, dressed in a tight black suit with a flowing black cape, like a superhero from a movie—Gus, the right hand of the ruler of the Northeastern Continent.

"Seems The Vision Eye chooses its master… You are no longer part of our organization. You know what happens to the defeated," Gus said.

With that, he lunged forward, piercing Macto's chest with his hand, ending his life.
