Chapter 40 - Texas

Chicago's location was exposed to The Demon Corps after several signals of demonic presences disappeared, leading to an investigation that determined he was on a killing spree.

His location was first spotted in Alabama but he unpredictably continued to make his way west through Mississippi, Louisiana, to finally arrive in Texas.

Historically, the slaves in Texas didn't receive aid to be freed until two years after of The Emancipation Proclamation, on June 19th, 1865. A day that African Americans would call Juneteenth as celebration of their freedom, signaling the day all of slaves were finally set free.

The transmigration of Phuture and Dark brought the war to an end sooner, essentially bringing The Emancipation Proclamation sooner. Now, The Demon Corps planned to enter Texas as soldiers of The Union just a few months after the slaves were freed.

Phuture didn't participate in the mission, deciding to begin her three day rest inside of her daughter's healing domain. She sent a group of four pertaining Space, Death, Harriet, and Robert, deciding to trust Elmer, Tyler and Bryson to watch over the headquarters.

Hayze and his remaining members of The Itaska were also stationed in Texas, hoping to cover more ground and free many slaves as possible.

Phuture informed everyone of Willie Lou's decision and why, just before assigning Harriet as The Demon Corps temporary leader for the next three days.

Harriet led her unit into Houston, Texas, where a cardinal bird would fly towards her with intel that thousands of demons were currently engaged in battle.

The report of thousands was alarming for her, but she knew Space was capable of after hearing about the battle against Valeur.

The city of Houston was a warzone, majority of the city had been blown away by Chicago and burned down to ashes.

The Demon Corps members could feel hundreds of demons dying by the seconds when they arrived, yellow lightning bolts striking down demons, buildings, and houses.

The lightning bolts targeted The Demon Corps, but Space successfully grabbed Harriet and Robert to maneuver at lightning speed. She paid close attention to the dark clouds above, watching each lightning bolt in their perimeter to move out the way.

Chicago could feel her spiritual pressure coming closer but continued his rampage against demons, remaining determined to kill every demon on Earth until the day he died.

Space, Harriet, and Robert arrived to see Chicago's destination, spotting him in the middle of the road huddled by hundreds of demons. The three of them watched shockingly from the side, allowing him to finish slaying the demons for awhile before stepping in.

Space would eventually lose patience with the process and jump into the battle, stepping forward while conjoining two energy blades to form her Tenshimo.

"I'm growing bored of waiting, may I interfere Lady Harriet?" Space asked for permission and awaited for her leader's command, smiling after recieving a nod of approval. "I'll kill them all with my Tenshimo!"

Space sprinted forward to attack the demons, beheading the hoard of demons with one single attack of her sword.

All of their bodies dropped to the ground simultaneously after being decapitated, leaving just Chicago and Space as the lone two staring each other down.

Chicago's yellow aura combined with the turquoise essence of Space, an electricity pulsating the power of his technique.

"Who are you?" Chicago questioned while pointing his energy blade towards her. "You're in the wrong place or some? I'm sure you'll find your kinfolk somewhere else."

Space tilted her head, looking at him sideways as she replied. "You must think I'm here looking for my mother...no darling...she's the one who sent me after you."

Chicago nodded understandably, he said. "I don't consider myself apart of The Demon Corps anymore, so you shouldn't waste your time on trying to bring me back. I'm on my own solo mission...to eradicate all demons."

"That's funny...because you're giving an energy of a demon as we speak."

Death, Robert, and Harriet approached and quickly noticed the same thing, unable to verify the demonic presence as him when he was surrounded by demons.

Space pointed her Tenshimo towards Chicago with hopes of him just surrendering.

"We can make this simple and easy...or we can do this the difficult way. I really wanna do this the easy way, that way I won't have to kick your ass."

Chicago paced his breathing steadily in his thoughts, knowing the spiritual essence of his opponent far surpassed his own. He was about four steady breaths in when he was struck in the gut, his sight unable to keep up with her movements when she dashed forward.

Space's punch to the gut disturbed his breathing motion and left him wide open with vulnerability, she slowly walked around him while struggled for air.

Chicago's lighting came down rapidly striking down on Houston, rain came storming down after the thunderstorm began.

Space jumped aside to dodge lightning bolts, bouncing around on her toes while keeping eyes on him to assure he doesn't run. If he tried to run away or use teleportion, Space Tenshimo would take him down for certain in seconds.

The objective was to bring him back alive, Phuture and Harriet both made it clear they wanted him back in one piece.

He shouldn't be able to challengee her in a battle, but his lightning storm was problematic for her allies. They were protected by an energy shield that could stand for at least an hour, more than enough time for her to finish off the mission.

Space didn't want to use her ultimate attack, solely because it would likely kill Chicago in an instant. If the power of her Tenshimo could push Valeur away, then it was certainly powerful enough to kill Chicago on impact.

Chicago's aura expanded, in efforts of charging up his power to keep up with Space's speed. She bounced around on her toes dodging every lightning bolt, spinning, flipping, and skipping around the storm effortlessly.

"Chicago, you're going down the wrong path! You don't have to be this way!" Space shouted. "We can help you!"

Chicago stared ahead towards his target, meeting eye contact with her just before activating his ultimate lightning technique. He said, "Ultra Superbolt."

Space gave him a side eye and wiggled her nose, she could smell the bloodlust coming from him just much as she could sense it.

Maybe killing Chicago was the only option, and taking him back was a fantasy in a happy world. Only this wasn't a happy world, it was a world of war, death, and institutionalized slavery.

Chicago's ultimate superbolt lightning technique formed all his prowess into a cloud above, using that bolster of energy to release an explosive five hundred billion volts of lightning on Space.

The lightning struck to erupt a large chunk of the ground, but Space clapped her hands as bolt came down to change the atmosphere.

The world became much colder and darker, almost as if the Earth was turning upside down. That's when Chicago realized he had been tossed into Space, and he was gasping for oxygen while reaching out into the darkness.

Space appeared to him with a smile on her face. "You only have a about ten seconds of life within Space Domain."
