Chapter 12 - Point of No Return

Both creatures now stood beside the boy as the boy was ready to draw his sword as he only hoped they would not hear him.

Just then a sudden sound of sword crashing came from the direction of soldiers and both of those creatures looked towards them and went off running, ignoring the kid.

But as suspected, the sound of soldiers alerted the beasts towards them but what surprised him was not him being discovered but the sheer speed of sprint of the one with long arms. It ran fast and was leaping across the village.

The kid felt proud 'I guess I was right about that.' and thought 'But can I really take them on? Maybe one at a time at most.'

He let out a sigh of relief and thought to himself 'Wait… I could have just waited back there' looking at the place where he came from while questioning his ownself.

As he navigated towards the center with ease, he stumbled upon a jar on the window of a ruined house. The jar that had small spherical objects inside of it with an odd looking dirty liquid.

He shook it around, they wiggled around like soft balls. The closed jar itself looked disturbing and off putting so he dared not to even open it.

He thought to himself 'I am not interested in whatever… these are'. He just calmly puts it back and ignores it.

He had almost reached the center towards the white ray which was shining from the center of the village up, surrounded by mist circling around it flowing upwards.

The waving string was directed toward the inside of that mist.

The kid somehow used his brain and thought 'Whatever you say. I am not going inside at all cost…'

He decided to rest around the one of four long roads that connected to the center for others to catch up. The string became agitated and started moving more violently but he ignored it completely.

But just as always, his luck will not let him rest peacefully as soon the soldiers' shouting voice came near alerting the creatures near the center towards their direction.

While normally it would have not been the problem but the soldiers had only cleared up a singular path.

But now creatures will rush towards the sound and make their way towards it by moving through the center which was the same place near which the boy was resting at.

The back of his was wide open for him to run just in case a creature moving from the main road spots him.

'They can not not keep quiet for once.' but two creatures passed in front of him without spotting him, to which he let out a breath of relief.

Just as he was thinking of running away, he felt something breathing on his right.

Hesitantly the boy glanced to his right only to find the creature head above his shoulder looking outside just like him.

The boy frightenedly punched it and leaped away onto the main road and readied his sword to fight. The beast was almost unharmed and just tilted his head looking at the boy.

The other creature that had run past him stopped on its track and looked towards the kid.

Luckily both of them had short arms, allowing the boy to get ready but now they pushed him towards the center where more creatures awaited him.

For now it was two against one, a small one and another one who had a bigger ribcage about half the size of his own but both of them had no pointing bones.

Without giving them a chance, the kid stepped up and slashed up the smaller one killing it in one go and tried going in for the second one instantly.

He readied his sword and tried to slash the other one but as he was going to hit him, the creature retracted his bones from their chest like cat claws but this would hurt him much more than just stretches.

The bones were dense and sharp. The sword hit them but it felt like hitting a tree.

The kid stepped backwards and a loud scream came from the dying creature which gave him a headache.

He stabbed it but it was too late. It was not just a random scream but to warn others and soon the other creatures noticed and started walking towards him.

'I should have just killed you instantly' he regretted.

He tried to be greedy and go for the other instead of finishing his first one properly and now this was the result.

The other creature rotated his torso and hips as the pointing bones came charging at him but without wasting time, he tried to cut down the bone but they were a lot stronger than he had expected.

The kid thought to himself 'This is going to be trickier.'

With every passing second, he finds himself getting surrounded by creatures but luckily, the creatures were not rushing towards him and even hesitant.

The boy realized the weeping beasts with small arms could not attack with their hands when the bones were out, making him only watch out for the bones as they could not reach their short arms to him but that wouldn't be enough as their bones were too strong to be cut down by sword.

'What if I make a dash towards soldiers… no there is no path connecting them, I will have to go through center or that small alley.'

But the small alleys were not large enough for the boy to freely swing his sword and dodge them.

He grabbed the bone, pushed it sidewards and tried to stab him from the side at the leg which worked.

As the sword stabbed the legs, it let out a scream and fell on its knees. Taking advantage of it, he stabbed it again.

The boy looked at his hand and felt disturbed by the weird liquid that was enveloped on their bones. He shook his hand to wipe it off.

While that slowed them down, there was no time to rejoy as the more creatures were coming towards him.

Three other creatures instantly attacked him with his small arms without retracting his ribcage but against his sword, it was no match as the sword sliced through them.

He sliced the first, dodging the other creature but overwhelmed, the first creature hit him on the side arm with its arm making him flung towards the ground.

The creature instantly starts charging at him without giving him a break.

'If this goes on, I might not last for much longer.'

He stood up and started dashing towards the center trying to run towards the soldiers but as he reached the center, the creatures were blocking his path to other long roads and soon he was cornered from all sides.

A creature with unusually long arms got on all 4 and started sprinting from the long road towards him from the main road. Its speed was faster than others. Most likely faster than a horse itself unlike the small armed which could not even run properly.

The only way open was behind him which was the white-ish steam of light ray. The creatures were staying far from it as if it held some importance. The string was waving around rapidly as if it was telling him to jump in instantly.

Even the portal felt like it was sucking him inwards like something was inviting him.

'Whatever it is, I might be better off there than this.' as he leaped backwards into it, staring down the creatures who were rushing down towards him.

He found himself in a white void whose light was too blinding for him to see. Having no choice, he walked forward and with each step the shining light got brighter till it covered his sight in dazzling light. He felt as if it was affecting his sight and he felt a slight headache as he heard a weird static-like distorted sound.

He was able to hear the soldiers outside as they made it to the center, followed by the sound of banging at something behind.

Having no way back, he took another step as a bright light blinded his vision.

By the time he recovered his focus, he found himself at the doorway with stairs going a few steps downwards.

No doubt about it, he fell down the stairs.

He had entered the throne room, ruined and crumbling apart. Two pillars stood by the door but one of them was broken while the other was on the verge of collapse as the room was not maintained for a long time.

Three doorways connected the room but only the middle door from where he walked off from was accessible while the other two were broken doors that had no stairs or were just for decoration. The door showed the entrance to the throne room.

In that grand room only stood a single throne facing towards the door waiting for arrival. The throne filled with cracks, falling apart.

The room was empty despite being the audience hall, multiple doors for the entrance yet now only one remained. The room with the king is now empty and lonely.

Against the throne leaned a sheltered sword and on the throne seated a young looking beautiful man with medium blonde hair and had narrowed violet eyes. He wore plain casual dark clothing for someone to be a king or prince and there was a single red ribbon tied on his left arm. He also wore a cape which was also white but the side inside part was of color purple.

He posed with his head leaning on his left hand and his index finger on his upper cheek and thumb at his jaw line making a small gap between them. He seated at the throne like an royalty, yet his clothes were more of a fighter than a self deprived noble.

The boy was able to see the outline once more after going through the portal but not the weird shadow images. It felt like travelling through the portal instinctively activated his sight but the world was not colorless as before.

The man had a golden outline like that of the Ignis and the man who burnt his village.

The kid thought to himself 'A human? I guess I can relax for now.'

The man on the throne made an arrogant pose as if he was looking down on the kid. 'Oh poor pitiful fool, for you to escape death just to get trapped into my chamber with no hope of rescue.'

The kid paused… 'I take it back, this guy is annoying.'

'Oh you foolish soul. It seems like you have no idea of what you just ran into' rejoyed the man on throne as he sang his own praises.

'Just great. An arrogant person' The kid thought to himself. And questioned 'Ran into? What is this room?'

'You ignorant soul, there is no use of knowledge to those who are about to die.'

The kid raised his shoulder and hands with a pitying smile 'I see… so you don't know yourself. What a pity'

The man instantly changed his tone to defensive. 'I know. Haha. I know it all. I guess I will bestow some knowledge onto a fool like yours'

'... too easy' the kid thought to himself.

"This place is where strong people and sometimes humans like myself reside. The veil connects the two worlds together putting someone strong of my caliber in charge to protect it."

The kid questioned 'Connects? Why does it connect the world?'

The prideful man paused for a moment before responding 'Foolish kid, know your place'

'I guess that is all I am going to get from him.'

The man continued 'And this room is where I, the strongest, reside. That is all you need to know about how great I am. Now get ready to die by my hands and consider it a… blessing?' he was pausing in his sentence as if he was thinking of what to say next.

As he finished his speech and opened his eyes only to look towards the kid who was now missing. There was no place to hide behind as the room itself was pretty much empty. The only place where he was able to hide were the pillars or… his throne.

'Since my head is facing towards the right side, you would be on the left as it is the best way to sneak past.' as he leaned forwards and looked behind his throne from the left side.

There was no one there…

Swoosh. And something struck his heart.

He looked towards the right side to find the kid standing there with the sword sunk in his heart. The man just looked at his heart and at him in disbelief and soon fell silent.

The kid was indeed on the left side but he sneaked onto the right behind the throne while the man was busy showering himself in his own praises as he spoke out his mind.

The man looked at him in disbelief and soon fell silent as he lost strength to keep himself up and he fell backwards almost like posing for his grand death with the last strength he had even thought he should have fallen forwards.

The kid felt a bit relaxed as he looked at him.

'I might not be good at one against multiple but one on one is different' mumbled the kid.
