"Good," Liam nodded in satisfaction.
"Then, it is time for us to start the next phase of this plan. Our next target will be Rock and Pop genres. You can discuss with Dave and provide him with necessary help. You know what kind of MVs I prefer. So, the standard must be maintained."
Evan quickly nodded.
"Unlike rap music, rock has a wide variety of audience. So, the quality of MVs are essential. No shoddy work must be aired. Now that Dave's team is experienced in producing MVs, we will ask them to take the lead for this as well."
"For rock genre, we will need 50 MVs for each month. Let's keep the pop genre at 45 MVs. Slowly replace the existing videos with the MVs of this style. We will extend the duration for all three genres till the end of this year. Let Dave know about the change. And make sure you concentrate on new releases mostly."
"Evan, if Dave finds the volume too much for him to manage, you are allowed to find another provider. However, I need MVs that are upto standard. Make sure that you don't skimp on quality."
This was a benefit Liam left for Evan. If he was smart enough, he will find someone like Dave and reach an agreement with them. This bulk contract for MVs will most probably empty out the remaining funds the channel had for its operations. But, the introduction of new programs was also essential to the channel.
Without money how can the channel produce new programs? Hiring people, managing production, and other miscellaneous stuff, all needed money. If not, who will come to work for you without any pay. People are realistic. Without shelling out cash, they won't even step foot on the set.
Liam knew that was the big drawback with the operational budget his old man had given him. It was too little to make any meaningful changes. This was chump change and you can't do anything outstanding with it.
Take for example, the bulk order of MVs might look like a big thing, but it obviously isn't. This bulk order may net around 240 rap MVs, 270 pop MVs, and 300 rock MVs. The total amount wouldn't even manage to reach 1000 MVs in total at the end of this year.
1000 MVs for a channel to play throughout the year.
What kind of a joke was this? Even a radio station has more songs on their playlist than this. This is a national channel. You can imagine how repetitive the content will end up as.
How can the viewership increase with such a huge drawback?
As for those old videos that the channel was airing, if possible Liam wanted to chuck them away into the sea. Unfortunately, he can't do it yet. He needs to mix both old and new versions of MVs to keep things running for now. This is also the reason for Liam to take a gradual approach for the change in MV style.
If he had enough money, he would hold off for a while, shoot around 3000 MVs, and replace the old videos with them at the same time and debut a brand new MusixZ TV. Alas! He didn't have that much money. So, he can only replace the old with new gradually.
Luckily, the contract was such that he didn't need to pay all the money up front. He still had some time to rotate money. The most important thing now was to use the reserve money and launch some new programs and see if the channel will be able to generate some money and keep things even. If not, he could only shamelessly beg the old man.
So, Liam wasn't going to stop developing new programs. In fact, he wanted to speed things up and try to see if he could find a turning point. Because, developing cautiously will not be good enough. Right now, other TV Networks haven't smelled how much potential this channel has. If they did, then the competitors will emerge and he would be ill prepared to face them.
No, now was the time to gamble.
He already had a solid plan to stabilise things. If he could introduce a hot program or two, then that will turn things around fast.
After dismissing Evan, Liam asked Rosa to call Christine in. He had been keeping an eye on everyone in the channel to see if any of them had any unique characteristics for him to put them to use. Only Christine with her penchant for gossip stood out to him.
"Christine," Liam greeted once she entered. "I will be putting in charge of a new program that we will be starting from next week. It is a weekly one, unlike most of our programs. You will be the one to lead it and make sure it goes on air each week without a hitch."
"What kind of program will this be, Mr. Liam?" Christine asked in trepidation.
"Something right up your alley," Liam chuckled. "This show is called Rumor Roundup. It will be in the style of two friends chatting about what rumors they have heard recently. If needed, you can add some guest appearances for variety. Interested in heading it?" Liam asked mischievously.
"I am, Mr. Liam," Christine replied, with eyes sparkling.
It was clear that she was suppressing her enthusiasm. As a gossip lover, this show was tailor made for her. It could scratch the gossip itch in her heart and also make her appear valuable in the young boss's eyes. Why wouldn't she be willing?
"The rumor must mostly be directed at the entertainment circle. Gossips about film stars, singers, and other notable personalities will be the main theme. Make it both lively and entertaining. I don't want two middle aged woman sitting together and sipping tea. Use young girls, teens preferably. You have two days to prepare a project proposal and submit it to me."
With that, Liam sent out Christine and leaned back in his chair. Gossips were always available. And young men and women loved to speculate about famous people. Such a show might not be an overnight hit. But, it will add variety and bring in more viewers to their channel.
One down. Two to go. He wanted to add three new programs for the channel this month. If he could find another event to broadcast, it would be even better. Alas! If only all his wishes could come true…
He had a barebones concept for one show, but still needed to refine it a bit. He still needed one more idea. He put himself into the position of a viewer and wondered what he would like to watch. What were his interests?
Girls and Money!
It was better not to use him as a template. If he combined that kind of concepts and created shows, then he would need to change the channel's entire programming. He would have to invite girls from Playboy magazine and that place to participate. The whole theme of the channel would change and his old man might come after him with a gun.
Well, that approach was a dead end. But, his thinking wasn't wrong. Since youth were the target audiences of the channel, the programs must align with the interests of youth. While he wasn't a suitable template material, didn't he have a bunch of young men and women in the company?
Liam quickly called in and assigned Rosa a task. The task was to ask everyone below 25 in the office what their interests are and then compile a report to deliver to him by the end of the day.
After assigning Rosa with work, Liam left the office. He had been working very diligently for the last month. That kind of dedication was stifling. He needs to slack off for a few days to recharge. Now that things were mostly stabilised in the channel, this was the right time.
Leisurely driving in the city, Liam roamed for the entire morning without any clear destination in his mind. After having some burgers for lunch, Liam ended up near a theatre feeling a bit bored. He didn't know why he did it, but he eventually ended up buying a ticket for an afternoon show and entered the movie theatre.
Two hours later, Liam came out regretting his impulsive decision. The film ended up being one of those artsy types. It was too depressing. As if that wasn't enough to sour his mood, the theatre was filled with couples doing couple things. No one paid any attention to the film.
As a young man, how could he endure two hours in such an environment and not feel depressed. He came out of the movie and noted down the director's name in his heart. When he entered the film circle, he would never hire this guy for filming a movie. There was a grudge in his heart towards the director.
Reentering the city traffic, Liam checked the time and found that it was just right to go grab some drinks. Liam quickly switched on the radio and drove to a familiar club where he often went when he was in the last year of high school.
During that time, he was still underage and wasn't allowed inside. However, he would often bribe the guard, so that he could be let in. That club attracted a lot of single girls. Most of his conquests from high school came from this club.
So, he had fond memories of the place.
