I woke up that morning filled with energy. But I was nervous,
what if I don't get this job.
i asked myself,
I rushed into the bathroom, showered, got out and started getting dressed.
''Celine, how do I even get there,''
I turned to Celine who was applying her makeup.
''Don't worry,we would go together, our office close to yours,''
And in Twenty minutes, everybody was done and we all left for work.
By the time I got to the company,I could stop but be amazed.
The building looked too polished, too shiny for someone like me to belong here.
Huge glass windows reflected the sun, and the logo in silver screamed money. A food supply company, they called it, but from the outside, it looked like a kingdom of power.
''Goodmorning Sirs,I'm here for a Job interview.''
The security guards gave me a long stare.
One waved me in with a lazy hand.
"Wait inside."
When I walked into the reception, the place was empty except for the glossy black bench against the wall.
Minutes later, employees began walking in,women in heels that clicked against the marble floors,
men in clean suits with expressions that said, I'm a classy man.
I spotted a girl with kind eyes and hurried and followed her to their office.
"Hey, please, I'm here for the assistant job. Where can I wait?"
She smiled, a little too sweetly. "Just sit there," she said, pointing at the bench I was coming from.
Before I could thank her, a guy leaned in and whispered something to her, not quietly enough. "That girl's going to lose her mind soon enough."
My wolf hearing caught it instantly. I raised a brow. "Why would I lose my mind?"
Both of them turned to stare at me, wide-eyed. I know the wondered how I even heard him.
The guy coughed, clearly uncomfortable. "Uh, nothing serious. Just… he's not an easy person."
"Oh, please." I flipped my hair behind my shoulder.
"He's human. If he's rude, I'll be ruder. If he shouts, I'll shout louder. Nobody scares me."
The girl widened her eyes and started waving her hand, signaling frantically. I didn't get it.
"I'll keep him in his place,"
I added proudly.
The girl nearly smacked her forehead with her palm. She pointed behind me.
I turned.
And froze.
God help me. The man standing there looked like he had just stepped out of a billionaire magazine spread.
Tall, broad shoulders, devastatingly attractive , the kind of hot that could make women forget their names.
His hair was dark and perfectly styled, his suit so sharp it probably cost more than Celine and Sophie's apartment.
But the arrogance radiating off him like poison ruined the view.
"Who," he said in a low, dangerous voice, "would you put in their place?"
My throat closed. Oh, no. Oh no, no, no. This had to be him.
The Boss.
"The... eh, mmm…" My tongue tangled,I didn't know what to say..
"I asked you a question."
"I-I was talking about my… neighbor. Yeah. My rude neighbor."
I forced a laugh that came out sounding like I was choking. "You know how neighbors can be… loud, annoying…"
He stared at me like he could see straight through my soul. Then his lips curled. Not in a smile but in disgust.
"No. I don't know. I'm too rich to understand low-life problems. Get me my coffee. Now."
And just like that, he turned and walked away.
Wait. Was that the interview? Did I… did I just get hired?
The girl beside me leaned in, whispering,
"That's him. Ray Manchester,The CEO."
I blinked. My jaw nearly hit the floor. So the arrogant prince charming was my boss?
"Coffee,"
I muttered under my breath.
"Fine. Where's the coffee machine?"
The girl pointed toward the dispenser.
"Not too hot, not cold, not too warm."
I threw my hands in the air. "Not hot, not cold, not warm? Is he insane?"
I slapped a hand over my mouth, realizing too late that my voice had carried.
A few employees glanced my way, smirking. Perfect. First day and I was already comedy entertainment.
Still, I made the coffee,
''Prince Charming should better like this coffee, what if he doesn't employ me,how did he even know I was here for the Job,why are other people not available for this interview?''
I kept asking meself this series of questions.
When I was done,I carried it to his office. I knocked. Silence. I knocked again. Nothing. I stood there for like Ten minutes then I heard him shout.
''come in,I'm sure that Coffee isn't''
He warned,
Hmm,I just rush to go make another one and returned.
"Good morning, sir. I brought your coffee."
A smooth voice replied, "Come in."
Wait. Smooth? Nice? That was suspicious.
I pushed the door open and nearly tripped.
Ray sat behind his desk, looking like royalty, while another man equally well-dressed but kinder-looking sat across from him.
I placed the coffee in front of Ray, forcing a smile. Just as I turned to leave, he stopped me.
"Must I tell you everything? Get coffee for my friend too."
I swallowed a sigh. "How do you want it, sir?" I asked the guest.
"Warm, please," he said politely. At least one of them had manners.
As I went back to the staff kitchen, the same pair of gossipers cornered me.
"So?" the guy asked eagerly. "Was he rude?"
They were fishing for drama. I wasn't about to give them the satisfaction.
"It was perfect,"
I said flatly and kept walking.
When I returned with the second cup and placed it on the table, Ray leaned back in his chair. His eyes were sharp, mocking, and a cruel smile tugged at his lips.
"You do realize you don't qualify for this position, right?" he said lazily.
My cheeks heated, but I bit back a reply.
"Well, I've decided to make you qualify. You're mine now. My assistant. My employee. My..." he paused, letting his eyes rake over me like he was some king addressing a servant. "My subject."
He smirked as if he had won some invisible battle.
I forced myself to keep a neutral face. But inside, I was screaming.
Oh my God. I really, really hate him.
But...
Not gonna lie, there was this strange feeling I had whenever I was close to him.
Like we are connected.
