Sunday morning, the last day before summer break. Most students were packed and ready to leave. The campus had an end-of-semester energy, everyone eager to be done.
But Maya woke up to a text from Zoe: Madison's on campus. Just saw her car in the parking lot. She's not supposed to be here.
Maya jumped out of bed, called Zoe. "Are you sure it was her?"
"Positive. Black Mercedes. Personalized plates. She's here." Zoe's voice was tense. "And she's not alone. Saw at least two other people with her."
"Should we call security?"
"Already did. But it'll take them time to respond. She's planning something. Something big." Zoe paused. "The closing assembly is at 10. That's in two hours. Whole school will be there."
The assembly. Where Dean Thorne gave end-of-year remarks. Where awards were handed out. Where everyone gathered for the final event before summer.
"You think she'll try something there?"
