Chapter 3 - Chapter 3- A Distant Target

Eight minutes later, Yang Kai arrived in front of his classroom, his class number was 3D, panting lightly from the run. Through the open door, he could see the teacher had already begun the lecture.

Without hesitation, he stepped inside quietly and slipped toward the back row. His movement was silent enough that the teacher didn't notice, but the students certainly did.

Whispers started rippling across the room.

"Hey, look. Yang Kai came to class."

"What? But didn't Sen Ren dump him yesterday?"

"Why's he even here? Shouldn't he be crying in his room or something?"

"I don't get it… is he not ashamed?"

The murmuring grew louder until even the teacher glanced up in irritation.

"What's going on? Why all the talking?" he snapped.

By then, Yang Kai had already sat down at his usual spot at the back, right beside his friends Hang Chen, Chen Zu, and Bon Min.

Yang Kai's eyes swept across the room—and locked onto Luo Hang, sitting smugly with Sen Ren beside him. The two were uncomfortably close, and she even leaned toward him with a soft smile.

That bitch, Yang Kai thought coldly. I'll make her regret everything.

Hang Chen leaned in and whispered, "Hey, look. That slut is sitting with that bastard Luo Hang."

Yang Kai didn't even flinch. "I don't care about that bitch anymore."

The teacher resumed the lecture, and the room quieted again.

Thirty minutes passed. The lesson came to an end, and the teacher left the room. The moment the door closed, Sen Ren stood up from her seat and strutted toward Yang Kai.

She stopped right in front of him, arms crossed and voice dripping with mockery.

"So, loser… you actually showed up. I thought you'd be too busy crying under your blanket."

Yang Kai looked up slowly, meeting her gaze with ice in his eyes.

"No," he said calmly. "I was just regretting how I ever fell for a bitch like you."

Laughter exploded across the room.

Students clutched their mouths, some openly chuckling, others whispering loudly.

"Damn!"

"He really said that!"

"She got burned!"

Sen Ren's expression twisted in rage. Without thinking, she raised her hand to slap him across the face.

But before her hand could reach him, Yang Kai caught her wrist mid-air.

In one fluid motion, he shoved her back.

Sen Ren stumbled and fell to the floor, her pride crashing harder than her body.

Yang Kai stood up slowly, towering over her with a cold smirk.

"Don't come near me again," he said. "Just being close to you makes me feel dirty."

Gasps echoed through the room.

Then more laughter.

Luo Hang rushed over as Yang Kai walked out of the classroom without even glancing back.

"Are you okay?" Luo Hang asked, kneeling beside Sen Ren.

She gritted her teeth, eyes burning with embarrassment as classmates continued to whisper around them.

"Yang Kai just humiliated her."

"Guess she thought she could step on him forever."

"She's clearly a gold digger. Deserved it."

Sen Ren clenched her fists, nearly trembling.

"Luo Hang, did you see what he just did?" she said. "Can you help me get back at him?"

Luo Hang nodded with a cold smile. "Of course. Leave it to me."

Outside in the corridor, Yang Kai was strolling casually his bag behind his back, the tension in his chest gone. His mood had shifted completely.

From behind, Chen Zu jogged up and threw an arm over his shoulder.

"Yo! That was insane, bro. You roasted that bitch like a firestorm."

Bon Min joined them, laughing. "Since you're the boss now, I guess lunch's on you, right?"

Yang Kai smiled. "Alright, alright. Let's go to the cafeteria."

---

The cafeteria buzzed with life—students chatting, trays clattering, and the scent of hot food lingering in the air. Yang Kai walked in with his three friends, laughing and relaxed after the morning's drama.

They made their way to the counter where a sleepy-looking vendor stood waiting.

Bon Min stepped forward. "Four pizzas and four cold drinks."

The man nodded. "Alright, wait a second."

While the food was being prepared, the group stood to the side. Yang Kai casually pulled out his phone and tapped his banking app. His eyes lit up at the sight of his updated balance.

11,080 yuan.

He smiled to himself.

Nice. With the system, I can make even more. This is just the start.

A few minutes later, their order was ready. The boys picked up the trays and walked toward an empty round table with four chairs near the window.

As they sat down, Yang Kai smiled at them.

"It's my treat today. Enjoy."

Chen Zu grabbed a slice. "Then don't mind if I do!"

They all began digging into the food, chatting between bites. Yang Kai picked up his pizza and was about to take a bite when suddenly—his vision froze.

A familiar chime echoed in his ears, and a golden window appeared in front of his eyes.

Beneath the text, a portrait of Lin Quizu appeared. She had long yellow-gold hair, matching golden eyes, and a beauty that was both gentle and striking. Her expression in the image was calm, composed—distant, like a flower behind glass.

Yang Kai nearly dropped his slice of pizza.

Lin Quizu?! System, are you crazy? That's the campus goddess!

She was practically untouchable. Everyone in the university knew her. Elegant, intelligent, and always alone. No rumors, no scandals. She was admired like a statue—beautiful but unreachable.

Yang Kai kept reading the system notes, and another line made his jaw tighten.

She has zero love experience. Body count: zero. She hasn't even held hands with anyone…

He glanced around the cafeteria, his eyes sweeping the crowd. And then—he saw her.

Lin Quizu had just stepped through the entrance.

She wore a simple yet refined white blouse with a light yellow skirt. Her hair flowed down like sunlit silk, and her expression was as serene as ever. She walked gracefully toward the counter, completely unaware of the sudden mission that had taken hold of Yang Kai's world.

He watched as she spoke to the vendor, her voice too soft to hear over the noise.

Chen Zu nudged him, pulling him out of his thoughts. "What's up? You just froze."

Yang Kai shook his head and smiled faintly.

"Nothing. Just... thinking."

But inside, his mind was racing.

How the hell am I supposed to raise her favorability to ninety? She doesn't even look at people...

Yang Kai picked up another slice of pizza and chewed slowly, though his mind wasn't on the food. His friends were still eating and chatting around him, laughing about classes and gossip, but his focus had drifted elsewhere.

He glanced toward the other side of the cafeteria again.

There she was—Lin Quizu—sitting alone at a corner table, quietly nibbling on a burger. She didn't seem to notice the attention she drew, or perhaps she simply didn't care.

Yang Kai took a sip of his cold drink and stared at the table in silence.

If I walked over and asked her to have lunch with me… she'd definitely reject me without blinking.

A bitter smile tugged at the corner of his lips.

And if I asked her to go shopping or hang out? Another cold rejection.

He leaned back and let out a quiet sigh, watching the bubbles rise in his drink. That mission from the system felt like a joke now.

A few minutes later, their meal came to an end. His friends began cleaning up the table, and Yang Kai stood up, brushing crumbs from his shirt.

"I'll go pay," he said.

He made his way to the counter, took out his phone, opened the ccb app and scanned the code to complete the payment.

As he turned around, his eyes unintentionally drifted toward Lin Quizu again. She was still seated, her golden hair falling gently across her shoulders, eyes lowered to her tray as she finished her meal with that same elegance she was known for.

Yang Kai stood there for a moment, then exhaled slowly and turned away.

Forget it. This isn't something I can rush.

He headed toward the cafeteria exit, where his friends were already waiting.

"I've got something to do. I'll head out first," he said casually.

Bon Min raised an eyebrow. "Alright. But don't come back too late. If the guard locks the hostel door, you'll be sleeping outside."

Yang Kai was already walking down the corridor, waving a hand behind him.

"Yeah, yeah. Got it. Later."

As he moved toward the university gates, a serious look settled on his face.

I need to find a way. If I can't approach her normally… then I'll create an opportunity. One she can't ignore.

The favorability mission had begun—and Yang Kai wasn't planning to fail.
