Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Two Headed Snake

"That's enough resting, Damian," She said. "Up on your feet. Let's finally get some hunting done."

"We need a wild boar at least, or a couple of rabbits. Don't just stand there gawking. Move."

He instinctively stood up, his legs trembling slightly as he gave a sharp stare at the girl in front of him.

'What the fuck?' Damian thought. 'So this is transmigration, they just throw you into the moment immediately, without even a heads-up on what to say.'

'Omni,' Damain called out.

'Omni.'

'OMNI.'

'Why the fuck is she not answering?'

'That bi- Is she ignoring me?' Damian thought.

"What are you gawking at?" The girl in front of him snapped, a flicker of irritation in her eyes. "Are you going to move or not?"

'Damn,' Damain thought. 'I have been staring for a long time.'

"Just getting myself," Damian said. "No need to raise your voice."

"I'm not raising my voice," the girl said. "Now, are you going to get a move on or not?"

"Right at your back," Damian confidently said.

"Just try to keep up this time. I'm not going to be slowing down for you."

She quickly turned and moved deeper into the forest, a bow hung on her back and a quiver of arrows slung over her shoulders. Before he decided to follow, Damian took a moment to look at himself. He was dressed in what looked like a typical commoner medieval outfit, complete with a dagger in a sheath at his waist. The whole scene felt completely unreal, as if he had been pulled back in time.

Damian just followed. He didn't say a single word. The moment felt extremely awkward, and while he had an urge to start a conversation, he didn't want to be in a rush. He wanted Omni to give him instructions on how to speak to people in this world.

'Damn, Omni pulled a nice one on me,' he thought. 'She's still ignoring me.'

As they moved deeper, Damian saw a pond. He paused for a moment and took a good look at his reflection. He was nothing short of handsome; his face structure was what some may call proportional, and his black hair was well-kept. He looked like someone in his mid-teens. Damian quickly began to follow again, making sure she didn't notice his abrupt pause.

"Stay quiet. You'll scare off everything," she said.

"I didn't even say anything," Damian protested.

"Just being near you is enough to scare off the game. Now be quiet," she said.

Suddenly, the girl froze as she spotted a two-headed snake. She quickly rested one hand on an arrow while raising the other to signal Damian to halt. The snake was unlike anything Damian had ever seen. Its scales were a shade of dark red, and while its body resembled a typical cobra from his world, it possessed two heads, joined like conjoined twins, and to add to its abnormality, it breathed fire.

"Don't move," she whispered. "Not a sound."

Damian obeyed as he came to a halt, his mind racing as he tried to process what was before him.

'A two-headed snake?' Damian thought. 'Omni, snap out of it! What's going on?'

'Wait... she doesn't look frightened. Is this a normal occurrence in this world?'

"Don't move," she whispered, her eyes locked on the creature as she repeated her earlier command. "We can't alert it to our presence."

She slowly advanced, drawing her bow and aiming for one of the snake's heads. Her arrow flew true, striking the left head. The creature's body convulsed violently as the right head tried to move away, but the left one simply tilted lifelessly.

Immediately, she fired another shot, taking out the whole snake as it came crashing down. It shrieked, and a gout of fire shot from its mouth, setting the surrounding bushes on fire. Seeing its pain, she quickly rushed forward and fired one last arrow, finally ending the creature's misery.

"Well? What are you waiting for?" She said as he gave Damian a look. "The thing isn't going to field dress itself."

She slit the throat of the snake's right head as she held a jar to collect its blood.

"Don't just stand there. Grab your knife and get the fangs. The venom is the most valuable part."

Damian quickly broke from his trance, his hand slowly moving to his dagger as he began to harvest the snake's fangs. Unsure of what he was doing, he glanced at her, searching her face for any sign that he was doing it wrong. From her expression, it seemed he was doing alright by her.

"Got all of them," he said.

"Good. Don't drop them. They're worth some good gold coins," she said.

"Okay, I won't," Damian said.

She had a good look at the sky and noticed it was getting dark.

"We should be back before dark. Father will be worried."

After some hunting, both her and Damian turned back and headed out of the forest. Damian just followed her and didn't say anything on the way. Then, they arrived at a small house, made of wood and stone, surrounded by other houses made of the same materials.

"Don't just stand there. Go see Father. I'll start prepping the herbs," the girl said.

Damian's gaze locked on an old man, slumped in a simple wooden chair. He was so frail that his skin seemed to be stretched over a skeleton, and his body was a pale, motionless husk. His limbs were limp and unresponsive, yet his eyes were terribly alive. Wide open and unblinking, they stared into the distance, a silent scream of agony trapped within them as tears flowed in a constant stream, carving wet trails down his dried cheeks.

'He's, he's paralyzed,' Damian thought.

'Wait? Father? Is this man my new dad? Hold on a sec, Omni. Omni. Omni.'

'What's going on? I don't feel comfortable with anything that has happened since,' Damian thought.

'Hold up, she called him father,' Damian continued. 'That makes her my sister.'
