"Pleasure to meet you," I replied, forcing a smile that matched the cold sweetness in her expression.
"Carson has been quite secretive about you," Ella purred, her tone dripping with false warmth. "All we knew was that you handle marketing at Gary Enterprises."
"Junior executive level," I clarified, straightening my shoulders.
"How charming," Ella took a delicate sip of her champagne. "Office romance. So very... predictable."
Carson's grip on my waist grew firmer. "Larissa has exceptional skills. She's being evaluated for advancement."
"Oh really?" Ella's perfectly shaped eyebrow lifted. "How convenient to have such a supportive boyfriend."
Before I could formulate a response, a distinguished man who shared Carson's strong jawline approached us. "Grant Gary," he announced. "Carson's father. And this is Angel, my wife."
An elegant woman with platinum blonde hair gave me a measured nod. "Larissa, welcome to our residence."
