I couldn't help but roll my eyes at Denise's relentless curiosity. "Maybe the poor guy developed feelings for me and now he's devastated that I'm off the market. His tough luck."
Denise let out a sharp laugh, nearly spilling her wine. "Oh honey, that man wasn't devastated because you're married. He was floored because you married Carson Gary specifically. Trust me, there's a world of difference."
Her words made me pause. "I'm not following."
She set down her glass and leaned closer, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "Listen to me carefully. Levi Holmes has definitely been doing his homework on you since that first meeting. Men in his position don't just randomly strike up conversations with beautiful strangers at hotel bars. He knew exactly who you were, where you worked, and probably what you had for breakfast last Tuesday. Now he's kicking himself because you snagged the most powerful man in the city before he could swoop in."
