My eyebrows lifted in surprise. "That's quite something. Carson Gary doesn't work with just anyone."
"You're familiar with him?"
"Our paths have intersected before," Levi replied with deliberate vagueness. "Los Angeles business networks are more interconnected than most people realize."
"What exactly is your line of work, Mr. Holmes?"
"Levi, please," he insisted with a practiced smile. "I'm the head of Holmes Financial. We specialize in boutique investment services."
"When he says 'head,' he means he built the company from nothing and now runs the whole show," Denise interjected, recognition dawning in her voice. "Your firm handles something close to ten billion in client assets."
Now it was my turn to look impressed. "Since when do you track financial executives, Denise?"
"I browse business magazines occasionally," she said with a casual shrug. "Sometimes."
Levi's smile widened with genuine appreciation. "Color me surprised."
