Raya stepped out of Adrian's room, her chest still tight from everything that had just happened. One of Adrian's men, the same one who had knocked earlier, was already waiting in the hallway. Without saying much, he gestured for her to follow him and led her down the corridor to another room.
"This way," he said quietly.
The door opened, and Raya walked in.
Anna was sitting on the edge of the bed, her back slightly hunched, her hands limp in her lap. Her eyes were fixed on nothing in particular, empty and distant, as if her mind was somewhere far away from the room.
The sight alone broke Raya's heart.
"Oh… my baby," Raya whispered, her voice cracking.
She crossed the room in two quick steps and wrapped her arms tightly around Anna. For a second, Anna froze, then she melted into the embrace, clutching Raya like she was the only thing keeping her upright. The tears she had been holding back finally spilled.
"Joseph is a jerk," Anna sobbed into Raya's shoulder.
