Chapter 14 — Diary of Nami (part 2) introduction of {ego} and [system]

POV: Nami

Dear Diary,

I thought living with Sunny and Aqua couldn't possibly get any stranger. After all, in just a few months, they've completely flipped our lives upside down. But today… today Sunny decided to introduce us to what he called his "skills."

Yes. His skills.

And not the normal kind, like sword skills or cooking skills. No. Sunny apparently has two people living in his head.

I'll start from the beginning.

Morning Madness

The day began like any other. Aqua was sprawled on our floor in her usual dramatic way, whining about how Belle-mère's breakfast didn't have enough "divine flavoring" for a goddess like her. Belle-mère just smacked her head lightly and told her to eat quietly before she starved to death again.

Sunny, meanwhile, was sitting cross-legged outside, muttering to himself like he always does when he "trains." At first, I thought he was just practicing meditation. But when I got closer, I heard it:

"No, 110% efficiency is plenty."

"Correction: 112.6% is possible if we increase your focus window."

"Stop contradicting me, you glorified calculator."

I froze.

Sunny wasn't just muttering—he was arguing with himself. Out loud.

Aqua came outside, arms crossed, and smirked.

"See, Nami? He's always like this. Sometimes I wonder if he's secretly an old man with two ghosts stuck in his head."

Belle-mère leaned against the doorframe, puffing her cigarette.

"Kids these days… imaginary friends must've gotten advanced."

Sunny groaned and rubbed his temples.

"That's it. I guess it's time you all met them."

The Introduction

Before I could ask what he meant, the air around Sunny shimmered. It was like heat rising off the road on a summer day. Two shapes appeared beside him—not fully solid, but enough to make my heart skip a beat.

On his right stood a tall, elegant woman with sharp eyes and a smug smile. She looked like she carried the weight of knowledge itself, and every word she spoke dripped with confidence. That was {Ego}.

On his left was a glowing, almost ethereal figure with an obsessive sparkle in her eyes. She leaned toward Sunny, almost clinging to him even though she wasn't physical. That was [System].

"Host," {Ego} said with a tilt of her head, "you really took your time. Honestly, this audience hardly seems worthy of my presence."

"Master!" [System] squealed immediately. "Finally, you've allowed me to greet your companions! Their heart rates are stable—Belle-mère-san's blood pressure is slightly elevated, by the way. Also, Sunny, you're currently wearing the same underwear as yesterday—striped blue, to be precise—shall I remind you to wash them later?"

My jaw dropped.

Nojiko burst out laughing. "Oh, Sunny. You're doomed. That one knows everything."

Sunny turned red and waved his hands. "Shut up, shut up, she didn't need to say that!"

Comedy Chaos

Aqua immediately stepped forward, pointing at [System].

"Hey! Back off from Sunny, you obsessive code gremlin! I'm his goddess partner, and I don't share."

[System] narrowed her glowing eyes. "Correction: you are statistically useless 86% of the time, and you fail at providing consistent emotional stability. I, however, optimize his efficiency perfectly."

Aqua gasped, clutched her chest, and fell to the ground like she'd been stabbed.

"U-useless?! Sunny! Did you hear that?! She insulted me! I demand divine justice!"

Sunny sighed, "I'm already regretting this."

Meanwhile, {Ego} smirked, clearly enjoying the chaos. She looked at me then, her sharp gaze cutting through me like glass.

"You. Orange-haired girl. You're curious, aren't you? That curiosity is a strength. But remember this: Sunny isn't the boy you think he is. He's… much more. And not all of it is sunshine."

My stomach tightened at her words. For just a second, I thought I saw Sunny's shadow stretch unnaturally behind him, like something darker lurked under his smile.

But then he scratched his cheek awkwardly and muttered, "Don't listen to her too much. She likes to be dramatic."

Aqua immediately puffed up her cheeks. "More dramatic than me? Impossible!"

Family Reactions

Belle-mère sat down at the table, poured herself a drink, and muttered, "Great. My house now has two invisible freeloaders too."

Nojiko teased, "So Sunny, let me get this straight—you've got two girls in your head, one goddess following you around, and now my little sister's staring at you like you hung the moon. Are you starting your own harem or what?"

I nearly spat my tea.

"I-I do not stare at him like that!"

Sunny blinked, confused, and then smiled in that innocent, slightly clueless way that somehow made my cheeks burn.

"Wait, do I… really?"

Belle-mère smirked knowingly, and Aqua shouted, "Over my dead body!" before tackling Sunny to the ground.

Closing Thoughts

Dear Diary,

Life has always been strange here in Cocoyasi, but since Sunny and Aqua arrived, it feels like we're living in a storybook—only the kind that flips from comedy to mystery in a heartbeat.

{Ego} and [System] are terrifying in their own ways, yet… somehow, they fit. Just like Sunny himself—cute and reliable on the surface, but with something vast and unknowable underneath.

I don't know whether to feel safe or nervous. Maybe both.

All I know is this: I've never met anyone like him before.
