Chapter 24 - Candied Secrets

I slumped down on the chair and tossed Abe no Seimei's diary back onto the table. All things considered, the passages I read had been concise enough to paint a clear picture of what had happened.

At the same time, I was left feeling a little lost.

Fraudkuna was real, or he used to be, then his ass got suicide bombed by the Kamo clan. I don't remember their exact technique but vaguely remember it being about blood manipulation.

There wasn't a detailed report on what they had used, but I had a feeling it was something like a blood ritual or something.

'Still, using souls… and the two other clans being willing enough to use themselves as sacrifices? They must have been really desperate to kill Ol' Fraudkuna.'

It still left me with questions, like if Kenjaku was somewhere out there taking backshots for 'the plot'. There was also that Star Plasma thumb looking thing that used to apparently be a pretty lady.

'Tengen… not to be mistaken for Tengen Uzui, ones a ninja, the other is a parasitic spirit that makes barriers.'

I wasn't the biggest lore nerd when it came to Jujutsu Kaisen, I knew more than most, but that didn't mean that I knew everything. For example, I knew Tengen was the one that originally kept Sukuna's shrivelled up corpse.

I had no idea where Tengen was, and I doubted that I would find them if they were still alive since they had barriers even stronger than Yashiro's.

I let out another sigh, 'This is tedious… Mitsuri-chan! Save me!'

Then, like an angel that heard my prayers, Mitsuri's head poked into the library.

"Satoru?" She stepped in holding a small tray of tea and some rice cakes, "I brought you some snacks… I thought you'd get hungry after sitting and reading for so long."

'I must marry this woman…' "Thanks…" I smile widely as she sets the tray down on the table, "wanna read with me?"

She blushed when I pulled her onto my lap, the scent of her hair was a pleasant change from the smell of old paper and stale chemicals that permeated the room.

"W-what are we reading?" She asked softly.

I hummed, picking up a random book. It was slimmer than the others I had grabbed off the shelves.

"What about this one?" I flipped through the first few pages, "looks like a personal journal from someone in the Gojo clan."

"Gojo clan?" Mitsuri asked.

"Hmm," I flipped through more pages, "…maybe my distant ancestors, I'm not really sure. I woke up in a field with no recollection of how I got there."

"Really? That's terrible… how can I help?"

I looked up and met her eyes, she looked entirely serious, I felt a little bad for giving her a half truth. But there was a reason you're not supposed to tell people about being a transmitigator.

"It's okay Darling… I'm here now and I wouldn't change it for the world."

"D-darling?!" She yelped a little before a bright smile formed on her face.

"Hehe… Satoru-kun called me Darling." She snuggled into me making me chuckle and nearly drop the book.

'Maybe one day I'll tell you everything…'

[Scene Break]

Half an hour passed as we read the journal. Well, more like I read the journal while Mitsuri fed me snacks and smiled lovingly at me.

'10/10 would do again.'

From the unnamed 'ancestors' journal, I learned that everyone is born with Cursed Energy. I had originally believed that you either had it or you didn't.

'I guess that saying Cursed Energy atrophied isn't so far off. Sukuna and the clans must have been a major factor if their disappearance affected CE as a whole.'

The journal provided more insight to my reality. It reinforced the idea that after Sukuna and the clans died off, that the amount of people being born with the potential to be Jujutsu Sorcerers dropped until no more were born.

So, while people still had cursed energy, that didn't mean that any of them could use it in any meaningful way.

Then demons became a bigger problem than they were in the Heian era. The Demon Slayer Corps was founded and with that, people began to unknowingly train cursed energy. Not that they could use cursed energy itself, but enough so that their bodies were enhanced by it.

I rubbed my temples drawing a look from Mitsuri. She hopped off of my lap and started giving me a shoulder rub.

'This woman…'

It was still unclear how Mitsuri and Tanjiro could suddenly see Cursed Spirits. I had a sneaking suspicion that it had something to do with their constant exposure to my own Cursed Energy. I had pretty potent energy, a combination of both sorcerers that claimed to be the strongest in their generations.

'Whatever… I'm the strongest, I'll train both of them on how to use Cursed Energy if it comes to it then they can train anyone else that "awakens" their own latent potential.'

[Scene Break]

After a few parting words, Mitsuri and I left Tamayo's hideout and made our way to the nearby town. Mitsuri held on to my arm as we walked around and explored.

Vendors called out offering samples of food they were selling, performers did flashy tricks to try and get donations. The air was lively, the smells of food wafting in from all angles.

Mitsuri pulled me along to a stall selling candied apples. Her hair caught in the setting sun's light. She looked like something out of a painting.

'If anyone asks me why I fell so fast and so hard… I'll show them this moment.'

"Satoru look! They have different flavours of candied apples!" She pointed at the different coloured skewers.

"Hmm, sugar on top of sugar… I don't think it's even a fruit anymore." I hummed.

Mitsuri ignored me and bought a skewer, she took a bite before offering me a bite. "It's delicious Staoru-kun! Try it!"

"We had candied apples before," I chuckled, remembering the festival we had gone to. Then I saw her pout, "…fine, I'll have a bite."

I gently held her hand in place as I bit into the apple. The sweet tangy taste of the treat filled my mouth. Mitsuri beamed widely and chomped on the rest. The old man chuckled as he handed me another skewer. I paid the man before Mitsuri grabbed my hand and dragged me away.

We stopped at more stalls, from ribbons to dumplings. There was even one selling 'warding charms' that looked like scraps of paper tied together. Mitsuri saw me looking at the charms and smiled.

"Should I get one for you?" She asked teasingly.

I leaned down, "Nah… they should be making wards for demons against me."

I brushed her lips with my fingers where a clump of sugar had stuck. Just as I was about to put it in my mouth she grabbed my hand and latched onto my finger.

Her eyes met mine as she released my finger from her lips with a pop. I did not gulp, she smirked and skipped off to the next stall. I saw her ears start to flush so I knew that someone must have given her 'advice' to do that.

'Who ever it was… thank you.'

I followed her after trying to beat down the rush of blood to my head. I wasn't going to let her get away with teasing me like that with no consequences.

"Mitsuri just declared war… and I wasn't planning on losing.'
