"No, you don't," Ace's voice cut her off, cold and absolute.
He moved. He was a blur of motion, his father's sword, Ace, already in his hand. He didn't use a grand technique. He didn't use a Nova. This was not a fight. It was an execution.
Devon's eyes widened in shock, her Mythical Zoan instincts screaming. She tried to transform, to dodge, but she was too slow.
Ace's blade, coated in a thick, shimmering layer of golden Conqueror's Haki, was a whisper of light. He didn't slash. He thrust. The sword pierced clean through her heart from behind, the golden Haki vaporizing her internal organs.
Her transformation faltered. Her eyes, wide with disbelief, stared down at the blade protruding from her chest. "why...?" she gasped, blood bubbling from her lips.
Ace leaned in close, his voice a low, merciless whisper in her ear. "Because I know your secret. And I'm not playing your game."
He pulled the sword free. Catarina Devon, one of the Ten Titanic Captains of the Blackbeard Pirates, collapsed to the ground, her stolen life fading from her eyes.
A profound silence fell over the plaza. Bonney stared, her face pale, a mixture of shock and horror. Kuzan's lazy smile was gone, replaced by a sharp, calculating expression. He had seen battle, he had seen death, but this was different. This wasn't a fight at all; it was a quiet, brutal, and utterly efficient assassination.
"Ara ra..." Kuzan said, his voice losing its usual lazy drawl. "That was... cold."
Ace sheathed his sword, the golden light fading from the blade. He turned, his face a mask of cold resolve, and looked at his new, shocked allies.
"Her fruit allows her to steal the forms of those she kills," he stated, the fan theory now a declared fact in this new reality. "I couldn't let her live. I couldn't risk her taking one of our faces." He looked at Bonney, his expression softening slightly. "And I will kill every last member of Blackbeard's crew for what they did to my family. That is a promise."
The weight of his vow settled over them. He had just declared total war, a hunt to the death.
Bonney, still processing the fact that she was alive, finally found her voice. "You... you saved me," she stammered, looking from the dead woman to the two living legends who had just appeared out of nowhere. "Why?"
"Because your father is a good man but tch forget it," Ace said simply, the truth of it echoing in his soul. "And because you were taking revenge for me and your fight is now our fight."
He looked at Kuzan, the strategic mind of the new captain already working. "This changes things. This 'secret bounty'... it means the Government might be a bigger threat to her than Teach is. We can't stay here."
Kuzan nodded, his expression grim. "The moment they find out she's with us, every Cipher Pol agent in the New World will be on our tail."
Ace looked down at the exhausted, terrified, and utterly alone Jewelry Bonney. He saw a frightened but a political time bomb, and a key to saving that man. He had come here to recruit an Admiral. He was about to leave with a whole new war on his hands.
He held out his hand to her. "Come with us," he said, his voice not a command, but an offer. "We're the only family in the world crazy enough to keep you safe."
