Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Classroom

Soon the room was silent like the wind.

The creaking chairs, the kids' breath and the fabric being rubbed together.

"Is that all?" The teacher asked.

"Who was the lord of lords miss?" Someone asked.

"Why exactly do the seven lords even exist?" Another one asked.

"What do you mean that ancient beasts are fragments of it?"

"Is the water we drink blood? If yes then I lost my appetite for water."

"Why won't the lords tell us about the angel?"

"What do the lords even do?"

"Can we eat pancakes?"

A flood of questions soon arrived asked by multiple students.

I wasn't interested because I was going to learn the history of this world from the library.

"Okay kids no more answering questions today, we have to do our reading and writing."

Oh yea…I forgot.

I couldn't read because this world uses a different language.

The only reason I could talk is because my family taught me.

Soon the teacher brought out thin books from under her desk and handed over one book for two kids.

The cover was all yellow with the title being white.

I honestly don't know what it says.

The letters were strange. Every one of them had some kind of harsh bar running through it.

One looked like a straight line stabbed by a diagonal slash.

Another was the same line, but with a circle stabbed right through the middle like a knife through a ball.

They all had that dominating bar.

I didn't know why.

But it made the whole thing feel like a secret I wasn't supposed to understand.

"Do any of you know what it says?" The teacher asked us.

Everyone shook their heads.

"It means Tyrell's reader in the Nathlands.

We're all going to learn how to read and write today.

Now kids, you should open the book now."

My finger touched the skin of its surface.

It felt like a rug of wool stitched together.

But rather than being soft, it was hard like stone.

I opened the book to the first page and then so on.

***

RIIIINNG!!!

It seems that it's now over.

"Alright kids' now's for recess.

Follow me to the playground."

I looked at the clock.

10 am?

This world does use the same clock with it being a circle with numbers around the border.

So I guess the time will be the same.

Everyone lined up at the front door of the classroom.

Split into two groups.

Boys and Girls.

The teacher soon got out and we followed pursuit.

In the hallway, I saw other classes doing the same.

This was certainly a large school.

Literally had two entire floors and the classroom was relatively large.

I guess that's what happens when they get funded by the church and the government.

Why were they getting these funds anyway?

Eh…it doesn't matter.

The only thing I need to worry about is my grade to help my family.

We finally arrived outside the school and into the playground.

And what the fuck are those?

The equipment is HUGE.

Towering metal contraptions loomed over the playground, some as tall as the second floor of the school.

A twisted forest of bars, ladders, ropes, and beams.

One structure looked like a climbing frame fused with a watchtower

Another resembled a spinning wheel large enough to snap a limb.

It all looked like a deathtrap designed by a madman.

Like an entire floor and extends almost 2 or more classrooms.

This was dangerous.

Someone's going to fall from that and die.

How did they allow this to be built?

This was not safe.

Nah, I'm not climbing up there.

I'm just going to do some other activity.

…There's nothing to do around here.

I looked around and this was the only thing that was there.

Nothing else.

Fine.

I'm just gonna sit on a bench and watch them play.

"What's your name?"

What the?

I turned around and saw 3 boys smiling at me.

"I said what's your name?"

"Lukas." I replied.

"Cool, my name is Tomas and his name is Gideon and his name is Wesley.

We thought if we could invite you to play with us?"

"What are we playing?" I asked whilst raising an eyebrow.

"We're playing tag."

Tag huh…

"Sure why not."

"Tag! You're it." He tapped my arm and bolted.

Damn it.

I took off after them.

We spent the rest of recess running, laughing, and playing until the teacher called us out.

We followed our class teacher until we came back to our desk.

"I won't be teaching this time, I will be in another class okay?

Another teacher will come and teach you all about arithmetic."

So it's math time huh.

The moment the teacher left.

Another one came right through the door.

He was a decent looking man with a good fit.

Carrying what seems to be his supplies or equipment for mathematics.

He grabbed a piece of chalk from the desk and wrote something on the chalkboard.

Is that his name?

"Do any of you know what math is?"

Everyone gave the same answer as before.

No.

He sighed.

"These are called numbers that start from 0 to 9."

Number?

Those?

I thought those were his name.

Like these numbers literally have the same dominating bars that the alphabets had.

Of course it's different but still.

1 and 0 were still the same as in my original world but the number one is just a line nothing else.

I could easily learn from this.

And thus the class went forward.

Nothing interesting really happened.

Except continuing to learn reading, writing and mathematics.

Even the lunch was uneventful.

It was then it was over.

The day passed like lightning fast.

I walked out the school front door and saw my sister waiting for me.

She was still wearing her work uniform and had dirt and black dust all around her face and clothes.

"You worked hard, didn't you?" I asked her.

"Oh yeah, it's nothing.

It's something you shouldn't be worried about." She chuckled.

Does she work at the mines or something?

We couldn't be doing this every week if she's working.

"Sis…Maybe I should go alone so that you can work hard and get paid."

"What? No, of course not.

A sibling never leaves their younger sibling behind.

That's the responsibility we have."

"Yes but it's for the better.

What happens if your boss doesn't like it and get yourself fired?"

"That won't happen."

"Are you sure?" I replied.

So she's not sure at all.

Sigh

"Look sis, I can look after myself.

I will study hard and get you out of this job."

She giggled.

"You're very mature for your age."

Yeah because I was 13.

"What now? Huh."

She stayed silent for a minute before answering.
