Chapter 48 - Chapter 48: Enhancement and New Abilities

Except for the unlucky fellow who had fallen off the cliff, Henry collected 95 human corpses and 95 horse carcasses, occupying about 44 cubic meters of space.

Each horse's volume was approximately 0.4 cubic meters, including saddles and other equipment hanging on the horses.

Adding yesterday's 9 released souls, plus 5 gate guards and 4 sentries, that meant he had released 123 guards total.

The factory still had nearly 100 guards inside, plus at least two machine guns.

This would be difficult!

Henry took advantage of the remaining daylight to turn back and search for his horse on the main road.

Fortunately, the horse hadn't run far. After walking five or six hundred meters, Henry found it.

After all, with a hill between them and being a war horse accustomed to gunfire, it hadn't been too badly spooked by the explosions and gunshots.

Henry mounted the horse.

By now it was almost completely dark. He took a horse lantern from his space, lit it, and hung it under the horse's neck on the side.

Henry could leave now and return to town. He believed the enemy wouldn't dare ambush him tomorrow.

But there was no guarantee they wouldn't attack Fresco Town after he left, though the probability was small.

Although Mayor William was no pushover, Henry should handle problems he had created himself.

Moreover, Henry had originally planned to shut down the McKinley family's mining operations anyway.

Since they were now mortal enemies, he definitely needed to strike first and cripple them.

So Henry decided to continue working overtime tonight.

But there was no need to rush - normally they wouldn't flee.

Henry rode back two or three kilometers and stopped at the side of a hill over fifty meters high. When coming here, he had noticed a small cave about two meters deep, roughly 1.8 meters high and 1.5 meters wide.

After dismounting, Henry positioned himself with his back to the hill and took out that granite stone from his space, placing it three meters to his left, then took out two similarly sized stones and placed them four meters in front and three meters to his right.

Then he led the horse into this framework and tied the reins to the left stone.

Henry took out another horse lantern from his space, lit it, and placed it on top of the front stone.

This way the light could illuminate ten meters away, and with Henry's eyesight, seeing twenty to thirty meters would be no problem.

Henry walked back to the cave entrance, took out a table and chair set, and took out a large copper kettle filled with hot water, pouring a large bowl and placing it on the table.

After storing the copper kettle, Henry sat in the chair and began studying the upgraded release progress bar.

The release progress bar had reached Level 3 at 1.34%.

Below were 100 gray pearls, 64 white pearls, 3 green pearls, plus 203 gray pearl shells, 71 white pearl shells, and 4 green pearl shells.

Tonight alone had added 1 green pearl, 45 white pearls, and 69 gray pearls, indicating the unlucky fellow who fell off the cliff was also counted.

But among the 115 newly added release pearls, only one green pearl and one white pearl had skill or talent halos flowing.

Upgrading the progress bar to Level 4 would require 10,000 gray pearls - this would take quite a long time.

The latest change was indeed another addition to the panel.

[Talents: Warning LV1, Super Vision LV1, Super Reaction LV1, Strong Kidneys LV1, Divine Speed LV1]

Henry focused his mind on each talent and immediately received feedback.

Warning LV1: Sense danger one second in advance and preliminarily predict actions that cause danger. Upgrading to LV2 requires energy equivalent to 1000 gray pearls.

Super Vision LV1: Vision and dynamic vision are 5 times that of ordinary people, with blurry night vision. Upgrading to LV2 requires energy equivalent to 400 gray pearls.

Super Reaction LV1: When mentally focused, reaction speed is 5 times that of ordinary people, lasting 1 second with 1-hour cooldown, and subsequent duration decreases by half each time. Upgrading to LV2 requires energy equivalent to 400 gray pearls.

Strong Kidneys LV1: Kidney power additionally increased by double. Upgrading to LV2 requires energy equivalent to 200 gray pearls.

Divine Speed LV1: Agility and movement speed additionally increased by 20%. Upgrading to LV2 requires energy equivalent to 400 gray pearls.

The panel contained energy equivalent to 450 gray pearls, plus the 196 gray pearl energy stored on the panel, totaling 646 release pearl energy units.

Except for Warning, all these talents were flashing, meaning they could be upgraded.

Strong Kidneys LV1 didn't need consideration for now.

Henry's constitution had already been enhanced twice, making him far more powerful than ordinary people.

This Strong Kidneys LV1 talent doubled his kidney power again.

Henry felt this was sufficient for use - he might never need to upgrade this talent.

Among the remaining three, Henry quickly made his decision.

He first drank the cooled water in one gulp, then stored the bowl, and focused his mind on the release pearl shells, receiving feedback - when touching, using intent to fuse shells into non-human creatures would allow them to be stored in space, with creatures maintaining their state when collected.

The specific number of shells consumed was determined by the creature's constitution and intelligence.

Henry was overjoyed and immediately approached the nearby horse, touching its neck with his right hand.

Instantly he knew one gray pearl shell could store this horse for 2,160 hours. He could take the horse out midway, stopping the timer, and resume timing when stored again.

He immediately used his intent to fuse one gray pearl shell into the horse.

After the gray pearl shell instantly merged into the horse, he untied the reins and stored both horse and lantern in his space.

Then he stored the table and chair, picked up the lantern, collected the three stones, and entered the cave, placing the lantern on the ground and carefully inspecting the cave without finding anything amiss.

Someone had apparently stayed here before - there were still burn marks on the cave walls.

Henry placed two granite stones side by side at the cave entrance, then placed another granite stone horizontally on top, perfectly sealing the entrance. He then placed a pile of ammunition boxes to block the opening, leaving only small gaps for air.

Finally, Henry placed a chair on the ground, checked the time on his pocket watch, then stored the lantern.

The cave immediately became pitch black.

He focused his mind and silently recited: Use 30 white pearls without skills and 54 gray pearls to upgrade Super Vision.

Instantly, these release pearls emitted light and merged into the panel, which then released milky white light that merged into Henry's eyes.

Henry felt his eyes were soaking in sweet dew, unprecedentedly comfortable. His entire eye area was warm, while his eyeballs felt cool, and finally slightly itchy.

He didn't know how much time passed before Henry opened his eyes. In the pitch-black cave, it was as if two bolts of lightning flashed. The outlines of bullet boxes and stones at the cave entrance were very clear, as if seen in daylight.

The panel showed Super Vision LV2, and feedback told him his vision and dynamic vision had become ten times that of ordinary people, with night vision capability. However, night vision provided vision and dynamic vision similar to ordinary people's daytime sight.

Henry took out his gold pocket watch and found 2 minutes had passed.

He removed the bullet boxes and stones from the cave entrance, walked outside, and released the horse from his space - the lantern was still lit around its neck. Then he mounted and headed toward the smelting plant.
