Chapter 20 - The Puppet's String

After learning the terrible secret he knew about Silvia, Waksi drove his car as fast as he could through the night streets of the city with a sense of anxiety. He was at a loss as to how to respond to this situation. Moreover, how should he explain everything to his father? Could this be the reason he ended his relationship with Silvia? He had to use this moment to convince his own father that his relationship with the girl was far more dangerous than expected.

As soon as he arrived home, Waksi ran to the front door as fast as he could to meet his father. He was sitting on the sofa enjoying a cold cup of beer by the window.

"Waksi, what happened to you? Your face looks pale."

Waksi walked slowly on shaky legs towards the chair next to his father, "Dad, there's something I want to talk to you."

"Alright, what is it?"

Waksi took a deep breath. Then he began to tell the story of what had happened when he drove Silvia to her house. The truth about Silvia's ability to think seven times faster than a normal human being was blatant. His father listened to everything his son said with all his heart. Occasionally he nodded as if he understood what was really going on.

"So you're telling me," said her father, "that Silvia secretly has a genius ability to manipulate those around her?"

"Exactly," Waksi confirmed, "

"Dad, this is a serious problem. With a brain like that, Silvia is a dangerous person. There's no way I can continue a relationship with someone like her. You must allow me to break up with her."

"Don't be too quick to make a decision, Waksi. You know what will happen if you break up with her." His father said with sharp eyes.

"But Dad, Silvia and I never loved each other from the start. Why are you forcing me into a relationship with someone like her?"

Waksi's father took a deep breath and said, "That's because of the deal I made with Mister Nolan. You know the consequences of breaking that agreement. Our family's company will be ruined."

"I still can't believe you put such an important decision in my hands." Waksi said, massaging his dizzy forehead, "There must be another reason why you would risk the life of your company to kids like us. I mean, come on, the deal you guys made really doesn't make sense."

Mister Nicole did not dare to look into his son's eyes. He took another sip of the beer in his hand without making a sound. Waksi saw his father's behavior like this very familiar, this is how his father hid something from him.

"Dad, please tell me the truth. What are you trying to hide from me?"

Mister Nicole looked out the window with a sigh, then said, "I can't tell you that. All you need to know is that I'm doing all this for you. You may feel like it doesn't make sense, but trust me, when the time comes, you will understand. Even when I am gone, the benefits you gain from the decisions I make can save your life in the future."

Waksi stared at his father, unsure about what he was hearing. "But, Dad, aren't you worried about the danger Silvia's abilities might cause? If she can control my thoughts, what if she uses that power for something bad? I feel like I have no control over what's happening."

His father placed his hand gently on Waksi's shoulder. "I understand your fear, Waksi. This is a difficult situation. But you have to remember, such ability comes at a price. With abilities like that, she must have difficulty understanding the people around her, or rather, the people around her have difficulty understanding her. Therefore, she must often feel lonely because there is no one who understands her.

"What should I do?" Waksi asked, his voice filled with confusion.

"You must take advantage of her weakness. That way you can secure your position from being manipulated by her." His father said as he patted Waksi's shoulder encouragingly.

"But how?"

"That's a question you have to answer for yourself. If you cannot defeat a girl like Silvia, you will not be worthy to succeed me as the leader of the family company." The father replied firmly.

However, this was not the case for Waksi. He felt like he was being played by two people at once, Silvia and his own father. "I feel anxious, Dad. After knowing all this, I wasn't sure I could continue my relationship with Silvia. Why don't you just let me break up with her?

"Nope, I wouldn't allow it. You've signed an agreement, and it says that your relationship must go all the way to marriage. If you break up with her, it will mean the end of our family. The fate of our company is now in your hands, literally."

Waksi became moody. He was completely at a loss as to what to do now. If he made a wrong move, he would become the target of Silvia's brain games. Now he realized how dangerous his treatment had been when he first picked her up at home, where he dropped her off in the middle of the street alone in the middle of nowhere.

You could say that he was lucky that Silvia hadn't done anything bad to him.

"Wait a minute, if I'm not mistaken, after I dropped her off in the middle of the street at that time, I ended up in the hospital due to poisoning from the bottle of drink she gave me. Did she get her revenge on me back then? Oh god, I should have realized it sooner. I can't go on like this with Silvia. I don't want to end up like Jessey. I must do something." Waksi thought out loud.

Meanwhile, at her home, Silvia is still undergoing interrogation with doctor Marchina. She explains everything that happened today, when she won the modeling competition without auditioning.

"So, you're telling me that you managed to win that competition because of a little mirror?" asked her father.

"Exactly."

The doctor and his father looked at each other for a moment. They could only shake their heads at the behavior of a super-powered person like Silvia.

"Well, as I expected, this is unexpected. With the brain power you have, there must be a lot of unusual things happening to you. I'm getting more and more curious about what crazy thing you'll do next." The doctor said as he continued to take notes.

"Tell me doc, what exactly is the purpose of your research? I don't think there's much to be gained just by recording my daily life. Everything I do is just normal stuff." Silvia said, tilting her head.

"There is nothing normal about all the actions you took today." The doctor said excitedly, "You are an interesting subject. Do you remember how we first met? Your father came to my office confused by your unusual behavior. Well, if my research goes smoothly, I might just find a way for your father to balance your mind so that he doesn't see you in such a strange way anymore. Isn't that a good thing?"

Silvia nodded in understanding. She smiled a little as she stole a glance at her father. The question and answer session with Doctor Marchina continued for half an hour. Silvia answered everything as smoothly as she could and the doctor took notes without missing a beat. Occasionally she looked at her cell phone and continued her writing. When all was said and done, Doctor Marchina decided to excuse herself. For a young woman with a doctor's degree like hers, it would be wise if she could go home when the streets were still bustling with local activities.

After her departure, Silvia had some time alone with her father. The girl knew there was something her father had been trying to say, so she stood right next to him without saying anything.

"Tell me, Silvia," said her father at last, "how did Waksi's father respond to you becoming a model?"

"Well, he seemed to disapprove and was angry with me."

"Really? And what's your answer?" Her father's eyes lit up upon hearing that.

"I told him the truth. That I will still be a model no matter what decision he makes."

Her father's smile grew wider and said, "I bet Mister Nicole is getting mad at you, isn't he?"

"Yeah, we had a pretty heated argument at Waksi's house, but I'm sticking with my decision."

Silvia's father jumped for joy with unstoppable excitement, "Good job Silvia! In this way, I'm sure he'll start to feel uneasy about you. You have to keep irritating him. Sooner or later, his company will fall into my hands." He said while patting her on the head with a happy chuckle.

Silvia felt proud to be able to make her father this happy. It seemed like her decision to be the winner of the model competition was the right one.

"But Waksi's father told me one thing: he allows me to keep modeling as long as Waksi keeps an eye on me wherever I go."

"Really? Well, that's not a bad thing. As long as he's around you, you can keep him annoyed with you. Make him feel uncomfortable until he ends up hating you like we planned from the beginning. That way, I'm sure he'll break up with you."

Silvia nodded. Now with a new challenge ahead, she had to make sure she took every opportunity to make Waksi hate her. The battle for her boyfriend's father's company had just entered a new, more serious stage. Silvia could tell that her relationship with Waksi was nearing an end.
