Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Prototype Testing

Mark sat cross-legged on his bed, staring at the glowing screen of his smartphone. The first mobile version of Shattered Realms was finally ready for internal testing. Only he and Nova would see it—for now.

"Nova, are you ready?" he asked, holding the device like it was a fragile treasure.

"Always," she replied. Her holographic form flickered beside him, eyes sparkling. "This is your first step into the tech world as a creator. Everything depends on your coding, your design choices, and your AI simulations. I'll monitor stability, player behavior, and energy optimization."

Mark tapped the screen. The game sprang to life: vibrant lands, dynamic NPCs, and interactive quests. The AI companions he designed—tiny holographic familiars—scampered across the digital landscapes, reacting intelligently to commands.

"Wow… this actually feels alive," Mark whispered, a grin spreading across his face.

Nova hummed softly. "It is alive. Just like your hero suit—your creation reflects you. Careful observation and small, calculated steps will make this a masterpiece."

Meanwhile, his mind wandered to school. Lena had smiled at him again today in class, something that made his chest tighten in a way he didn't quite understand. Aya had left him a playful note in his notebook, teasing him about "mysterious late-night activities." Rina had given him a rare nod of acknowledgment for a clever answer in math.

Mark smirked. So many things happening at once…

He flexed slightly as he played the game, a small reminder to himself that even in this quiet moment, he was growing stronger—both as a creator and as a hero.

Nova's voice cut in, sharp but gentle. "Mark… sensors detect an unusual energy signature outside your building. It's consistent with a surveillance unit."

Mark froze, glancing toward the window. A small drone hovered near the rooftop across the street, camera blinking softly. "Seriously?" he muttered, rolling his eyes. "Guess they're more interested in my creations than they thought."

He leaned back, thoughtful. "Fine. Let them watch. They don't know who I really am. Not yet."

Hours passed as Mark continued refining the game. He tested AI companions, balanced energy consumption, and even ran simulations of in-game combat. Every action, every tweak, was a step closer to his ultimate vision.

Suddenly, a notification popped up in Coinexus—an anonymous tip:

"Someone is curious about your tech. Their reach is growing. Stay vigilant."

Mark's grin returned, sharper this time. "Then I'll give them a show they'll never forget… but only when the time is right."

Nova's tone softened. "Mark, remember—your game is only the beginning. Your hero life, your tech empire, and your relationships… all of it is interconnected. You must balance carefully, or everything could collapse."

Mark tapped the screen again, watching the tiny digital world flourish. "Balance… I'll manage. I always do."

Outside, the drone shifted its position, scanning with precision. Its operator whispered, barely audible:

"The hero is hiding more than we thought. Prepare Phase Three. Observation alone will not suffice."

Mark had no idea… the real threats were just beginning.
