Chapter 2 - The Cheat of Cheats

After his nap, the little wyvern slowly opened his eyes. For a moment, panic surged through him. The rough stone walls, the faint mossy glow, the strange earthy smell… none of this looked familiar.

He scrambled to his feet out of instinct, only to immediately trip over his own tail and tumble forward with a loud thud.

"Ugh! What the…?!"

It took him a second to remember. Right. He wasn't human anymore. This wasn't a bed, this wasn't a room, and these definitely weren't human limbs.

Breathing slowly, he forced himself to calm down.

"…Ah. That's right. I… I got reincarnated."

Memory returned piece by piece. Hatching from the egg. Freaking out. Then eating the eggshell like some desperate animal. And after that… sleep.

"…So yeah. That wasn't a dream."

He let out a sigh that sounded more like a growl, but at least his heart stopped racing.

No, now's not the time to sit around sighing. I have to figure things out, about myself, about my surroundings, and about this world.

With a determined snort, he forced his shaky legs to straighten and stood tall on his two hind limbs.

"First things first… me."

He glanced down at his dark-scaled body, claws gleaming faintly under the dim light.

"What I know so far… I'm a wyvern. As for my past life…" His eyes narrowed, and he clicked his tongue in irritation. "Tch. Who cares? I didn't have a family anyway. I grew up on the streets, a thief just to survive. Took me years just to save up enough for a cheap smartphone, since most of what I earned went straight into paying rent to the damn seniors."

A shadow of bitterness flickered across his face, but he shook his head violently, as though trying to claw the thoughts away.

"No. No, no, no. Don't start sulking now. Focus. That life's over. What matters is this one."

His eyes sharpened again, the wavering gloom replaced by determination.

"Alright… let's try this the proper isekai way."

He cleared his throat, though it came out more like a raspy growl.

"System!"

…Nothing.

"…Profile!"

Silence.

"…Character status!"

Still nothing but the faint echo of his own voice bouncing back at him from the cavern walls.

His tail twitched in mild frustration. "Tch. Isn't this supposed to be the part where a glowing window pops up with all my stats neatly listed out? Isekai anime and fanfics made it look so easy!"

For a moment, he just sat there, wings drooping slightly, before muttering with a sulky tone, "Don't tell me this world doesn't have any RPG interface… That'd be such a scam."

He grumbled and cursed under his breath, frustrated that he couldn't figure out the method to check his skills or abilities if he had any. But then…

Plop.

A transparent screen suddenly appeared before his eyes.

"…Eh?"

His eyes widened in shock, tail stiffening as he stared at the floating window.

"Oooohhh! It actually worked! My luck isn't failing me after all!"

Excitement bubbled in his chest as he leaned forward eagerly. "Alright, let's see what we've got here!"

His gaze scanned the glowing display for a few seconds. Then his jaw dropped.

"A… Whaaaaaatttt!?"

He froze, eyes trembling as he reread the text again and again. At first, he thought this screen would be the usual status function of this world, a neat little window to show levels, skills, or stats like in every other isekai story. But no. This wasn't a simple RPG interface at all.

This was something else entirely.

"A gacha system…? Seriously!? That's not just a cheat, that's fanfiction protagonist-level cheat!"

Convinced he must be dreaming, he lifted his wing-claw and pinched his cheek.

"Ow!"

The sting of pain made him flinch, but also confirmed the horrifying truth. This was real.

He immediately turned back to the display, checking its functions carefully this time. And sure enough, it was exactly as it appeared. A fully operational gacha system. Points could be earned, then spent to draw cards. And those cards…

They could hold anything.

Skills. Templates. Powers. Weapons. Items. Summons. Even divinity itself. A key to unimaginable authority, perhaps even across all worlds in the vast Omniverse.

His tiny body trembled as he stared at the possibilities, tail thumping against the ground in barely contained anticipation.

"…This… this is insane."

But the thrill only lasted a few seconds before his eyes caught the fine print.

[Points: 1]

[Note: Points accumulate naturally over time. +1 Point per day. Minimum 3 Points required for a draw.]

"…Haaaah?"

His wings drooped, tail slapping the floor as disappointment flooded his tiny body.

"So I get… one measly point a day? And I need three just to pull one card? That's basically three days per spin! What kind of scammer system is this!?"

Still, no matter how much he grumbled, there was nothing he could do about it. The rules were set. He was stuck waiting.

"Ugh… whatever. Complaining won't change anything."

With a reluctant sigh, he willed the glowing interface to vanish. The screen blinked out of existence, leaving only the dim cavern and the faint sound of his own breathing.

"…Fine. I'll just have to survive until then."
