Chapter 49 - Chapter 49: The Hilichurl's Curse

"Calm down, big brother!" Yu Jin shouted as he saw the Cryo Mitachurl roar and charge forward.

This Mitachurl was a rare Hilichurl that could maintain a certain degree of composure, and Yu Jin was very curious about him.

Unfortunately, Uku, who had fallen into a berserk state, could no longer hear Yu Jin. He now only wanted to tear everything in front of him to shreds.

"Roar!" Uku let out a furious roar, his body, enhanced by the Cryo element, shot out like an arrow from a bowstring, charging towards Yu Jin with a speed completely unbefitting his size.

Uku at this moment was like a moving battering ram. Wherever he passed, even the hard permafrost was torn up.

"Don't underestimate me, strength is the reason for kingship!" Yu Jin crouched down. Among Hilichurl, as long as one was strong enough, one could become their king.

Similarly, in The Lands Between in the past, strength was indeed the reason for kingship!

"Fly!"

With a 'boom,' Yu Jin also lunged towards Uku. Yu Jin, who only reached Uku's waist height, looked like he was trying to stop a chariot with his arms.

But many things often turn out unexpectedly. When Uku and Yu Jin collided, he only felt as if he was wrestling with a mountain, and then he saw himself grow taller.

"Bang!" Yu Jin directly picked up Uku and, using his waist, threw the massive Uku flying.

The earth seemed to tremble a few times, and Uku tumbled several times on the ground before barely stopping his momentum.

When Uku stood up again, his Cryo armor was already shattered, and he himself was dizzy.

"Can we talk properly now?" Yu Jin ran up to Uku and mumbled something.

These Hilichurl were always like this; they wouldn't listen to reason until they got a beating.

"Uku listens to you. You, strong!" Uku immediately quieted down. He had the aura of a Hilichurl, and his strength was greater than his, so he must be a stronger Hilichurl!

He must be the Hilichurl Emperor!

Uku looked at Yu Jin, who was completely different from other Hilichurl, and fantasized about a non-existent Hilichurl race in his mind.

If Yu Jin knew Uku's thoughts, he would definitely be covered in black lines. What Hilichurl Emperor? What's the benefit of ruling all Hilichurl?

"You have a proper name?" Yu Jin was startled. He had never seen a Hilichurl with a proper name before.

Uku had used Teyvatian when he spoke his name just now!

"Uku! Uku's name is Uku!" Uku shouted. He felt very excited.

As for why? Maybe it was because a Hilichurl understood his name. Before, every time he told other Hilichurl his name, not a single one could understand him.

"Uku, sit down and let me take a look!" Yu Jin said to Uku.

"Uku listens to you!" Uku immediately sat on the ground, allowing Yu Jin to move all over him.

Yu Jin pulled a few hairs from Uku's neck, tapped his horns, and finally secretly took a bit of Uku's blood for a closer look.

A god's curse? Yu Jin stroked his chin. This was the first time he had observed the Hilichurl race so meticulously.

The souls of the Hilichurl he had absorbed into his body had already returned to human form and started new lives. As a god of noble moral character, Yu Jin naturally would not disturb them.

He thought about it and felt that those people on Celestia were really ruthless. Killing people wasn't enough; they had to torment them like this.

Maybe he should curse those guys sometime. Speaking of which, he seemed to always bless others. A god's curse was just as powerful as a blessing.

Yu Jin touched Uku and asked, "Uku, what do you think of this life?"

"Good! Little things play with me!" Uku remembered the weasels that always played with him and clapped his hands excitedly.

"Tsk, troublesome." Yu Jin shook his head helplessly. It seemed that thousands of years of curse distortion and erosion had already turned Uku into "Uku."

"But Uku is always very annoyed." Uku's voice suddenly deepened.

"Uku strong, afraid of hurting Hilichurl, so came here." Uku spoke in a low voice, then painfully pounded his head, saying: "But it's even more annoying here! But Uku cannot leave, this place seems very important to Uku!"

Is that so? Yu Jin looked at Uku, who was sometimes down and sometimes happy. Fire can temper the brilliance of human nature, and so can time.

"Uku, look at me." Yu Jin walked directly opposite Uku, staring intently into his sparkling blue eyes.

The Undead attract souls, and Yu Jin was especially so. If he didn't restrain his nature, Mondstadt might not have many living people left by now.

As an Undead who had devoured countless souls, Yu Jin's familiarity with souls was unparalleled; if he claimed to be second, no one would dare claim to be first.

Slightly releasing his nature, an attractive force from a higher dimension descended upon Uku.

Soon, the originally lively Uku lowered his head and fell into a state of suspended animation.

Yu Jin looked at the distorted human figure in his palm—that was Uku's soul. Under the dual erosion of the curse and time, the human part of Uku was pitifully small.

But thankfully, the soul had not dissipated, and Yu Jin could save him. But before that, let's divide it first.

In Yu Jin's other hand, a pure white ball suddenly appeared. A pure soul, a soul without any imprints.

Once experienced, it would leave an imprint in the soul, and through these imprints, Yu Jin could see the forgotten past of the soul.

Uku's soul was divided into two parts, taking three thousand years ago as the boundary: one was human Uku, and the other was Hilichurl Uku.

Everything of human Uku was merged by Yu Jin into the pure soul, and he would revive within this purity.

Then Yu Jin pinched the soul of Hilichurl Uku, extracting the ominous black aura within the soul little by little.

"Tsk! The taste isn't good, not as strong as You Sui." Yu Jin absorbed the curse into his helmet, letting out a mocking laugh.

It seems that the Heavenly Principles have not mastered a method for widespread dissemination of curses without diminishing their power.

Yu Jin had one, but he didn't use it. Curses were not as effective as fists.

Soon, the curse within Hilichurl Uku's soul was completely absorbed by Yu Jin. Now, its soul was pure white, unstained by any filth.

Yu Jin sent Hilichurl Uku's soul into the Cryo Mitachurl's body and then prepared to leave.

The newborn Uku would probably have to fight him again, and he didn't want to fight now.

"Hilichurl Emperor, where are you going? Uku follows." Just as Yu Jin had only walked a few steps, Uku's voice suddenly came from behind him.

Yu Jin turned his head sharply, not even caring that Uku called him the Hilichurl Emperor. He looked at Uku as if trying to see through him.

"Hahaha! Nowhere. You don't need to follow me, Uku." Yu Jin laughed and ran towards Uku, almost choking with laughter beside him.

What was wrong with him? It seemed no one had ever said that only humans could shine, right? Gods wouldn't be like that.

A peculiar life. Among all things, it seemed to be the one Yu Jin knew the least about.

"Uku, let's be friends." Yu Jin plucked a plume and handed it to Uku.

"Be friends! Uku likes friends!" Uku accepted the plume and tucked it into his waist.

Yu Jin saw Uku's contented look and then spoke to his palm:

"Person of the past, I can forge new flesh and soul for you, or I can grant you a dreamland beyond reality. Which do you desire?"

"Lord God, can I see him?" Uku said to Yu Jin.

"Of course you can." Yu Jin opened his palm. In a world unseen by others, a faint ball of light pulsed gently.

Uku saw a Mitachurl with several weasels crawling on him. He took out a few grass seeds from his waist and threw them on the ground.

But the weasels didn't even look, and the Mitachurl himself became anxious—because he had just thrown away the plume Yu Jin had given him.

Picking up the plume, the Mitachurl wiped off the non-existent dust and put it back on his waist—on the other side of the grass seeds.

"I want to stay with him. He's a bit clumsy, and I can't rest easy," Uku said.

"Is that so?" Yu Jin smiled.

Then the plume on Uku's waist glowed faintly. Below the feather, an open eye gazed around.

Life always finds its way, even within a god's curse.
