Chapter 26 The Key to Digesting the Potion
Lu Ze looked up the Nighthawks' records and found some notes said to be left by Emperor Roselle. They were stored in a box, and after opening it, Lu Ze saw something surprising—Chinese.
Looking at these incongruously familiar words, he was shocked beyond words.
Emperor Roselle was indeed a senior time traveler, and he was from the same civilization as himself.
Although he had guessed this possibility, when Lu Ze really discovered the truth, his mood for a moment was simply indescribable.
No wonder no one could understand it, because it was simply from another world! But if that was the case, what hidden things would Russell record in words that only he knew?
Lu Ze reached into the box and took out three manuscripts. The words on them were enlarged and the strokes were a bit strange. It was obvious that they were copied by later generations who did not understand Chinese characters.
He read on with a nostalgic feeling.
"November 18th, what a miraculous event! A whimsical experiment and an accidental mistake led me to discover a poor fellow trapped in a storm, lost in the depths of darkness. He could only get a little closer to the real world during the full moon each month, yet he still couldn't transmit his cries. He was lucky; he met me, the protagonist of this era."
"January 1, 1184, at the great New Year's party. Lady Flonnell was a real beauty."
"January 3rd. My original choice was too hasty. Now it seems that Apprentice, Fortune Teller, and Thief are all better choices. Unfortunately, there's no turning back."
"On September 23rd, I lost contact with the ship searching for the 'God-Forsaken Land'. I should consider inventing a wireless telegraph. I hope it won't be affected by the storm."
The information in the three manuscripts was inconsistent, seemingly diaries left by Russell at different times in his life. Besides some palace secrets and national politics, Lu Ze discovered, surprisingly and not surprisingly, that Russell himself seemed to be a High-Sequence Beyonder. He even had the ability to contact mysterious figures that did not exist in the real world and search for the unknown area known as the "God-Forsaken Land."
But what excited Lu Ze the most was this description in the diary:
"January 4th, why are my children so stupid? I've told you a thousand times, don't be fooled by those charlatans. No, those charlatans may have been fooled themselves. The key to potions isn't mastery, it's digestion! It's not about digging, it's about acting! And the name of the potion isn't just a core symbol, it's also a specific image, and it's the 'key' to digestion!"
Digestion?
Do potions need to be digested?
And the key to digestion is the name of the potion?
Digest, use the name of the potion to digest!
Thoughts kept emerging, exploding in my mind like thunder.
Lu Ze was so excited that his hands were shaking as he held the diary.
Russell was clearly a High-Sequence Expert. The fact that he wrote something in a language only he could understand made the possibility of malicious deception extremely low. In other words, this method was highly likely to be true and would be of great use to his Beyonder path!
But at this moment, his smile suddenly stopped, as if he remembered something.
That's not right, I can't advance to Sequence 8!
He remembered what Dunn had warned him: "Secret Prayers" must never seek promotion, otherwise they would be courting death. In this case, even if the method provided in Russell's diary was true, he would not be able to use it to quickly improve and become a high-level strongman.
Lu Ze gradually calmed down. He sat back in his chair and put the diary back into the box.
On the bright side, he could at least use this method to "digest" the potion, reduce its effects in the body, and avoid losing control.
Thinking of this, his heart felt a little more balanced.
But how to digest it?
The name of the potion is the core symbol, the concrete image, the key.
The name "Secret Prayer" literally means someone who prays to the secret. In other words, if I just do things that fit this name, I can digest the potion?
Lu Ze lowered his head and recalled that he seemed to have done something similar. He had prayed to the True Creator twice, once to deal with the crazy Hainas, and once to save Old Neil.
So after these two prayers, has the effect of the potion been reduced?
Hiss, it seems like there really is one.
When he first took the potion, his mind was unstable, and he would see strange things in the corners. But after those two prayers, his spirituality became more and more stable. In addition, learning the rituals and practicing the Hermetic script seemed to have helped him digest it to some extent.
Lu Ze's expression was a little strange.
What a joke! In order to reduce the influence of the True Creator, the potion needs to be digested—but the key to digesting the potion is actually praying to the True Creator?
The logic is closed!
Wait, the potion's name mentions a hidden entity, not a specific Creator. So, could praying to another hidden entity help with digestion? It seems like a good idea.
Lu Ze breathed a sigh of relief and closed the box.
Russell's diary seems to have been scattered all over the place. If you have the chance in the future, you can look for it. After all, it is really useful.
He suppressed the various thoughts churning in his mind and tried to continue studying the occult, but he couldn't calm down. He simply put it all aside and closed his eyes to rest. He didn't open his eyes until Leonard, who had replaced him, came down.
"So laid back? Didn't the captain want you to study the occult on your own?"
He asked with a slightly flirtatious smile.
"I'm tired of studying."
Lu Ze was very tired at the moment and didn't want to pay attention to him.
"I see."
Leonard smiled and stared at him with his dark green eyes. When he was about to leave the armory, he suddenly said, "Hey, Lu Ze, I always feel that you have a unique temperament."
"Really? Why didn't I feel it? What kind of temperament is it?"
"The aura of a story's protagonist. Look, not only did you miraculously survive the cultists, you even became a Beyonder, joined us, and displayed your abilities."
Lu Ze didn't want to listen to his chatter and turned to look at him.
"What do you want to say?"
"I just have a question."
Leonard smiled, his eyes shimmering with murky meaning. "Why is Aurora so obsessed with you? And why did Sirius, who was guarding you, suddenly go crazy? You seem to have some strange secret, right?"
Lu Ze looked at him silently for a few seconds and said:
"I don't know. I was a psychopath at the time. How could a psychopath understand those things?"
Leonard's smile faltered.
Neurosis. Neurosis.
Lu Ze said this and stopped talking. He went out to the hall, facing the sunlight outside. He suddenly thought of Klein, the "fortune teller" who had just left. He happened to go to the fortune telling club to tell fortunes for people, which was exactly in line with the name of his potion. Could it be that he also knew the key to digesting the potion?
Thinking back to Leonard who had just tested him, old Neil who prayed to the evil god, and himself, a secret praying man who was watched by the true creator, this Nighthawks team was truly brilliant.
