Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

"I

think explaining this is nothing but modern miracle" the doctor said as

Mama waited for Job's health report "As you must have been told, your son was

shot multiple times, on his arms, his stomach, chest...." The doctor paused as

he stretched out his arm on his desk, reaching for Mama's "Your son is one

lucky man, none of the bullets hit a vital point" he paused again, rubbing

her knuckles to release the tension "but" he said "he suffered a head

trauma when he hit the floor and so he's down with a concussion" Mama released

her arms and wiped her tears

"is he going to be fine?" she asked "we can only hope" the doctor

responded

"Not that anybody ask" Lucian said out

to his 6 colleagues sitted around the diner "But he got what he deserved"

he said with his prawn filled mouth

"I'm sure you're only saying that because

you're jealous" Eve countered before she gulped down her juice

"Hello" Farooq another colleague of theirs

called out "we are lawyers" stating the obvious "you should also know that it'd

be stupid to forget that walls have ears" his eyes burning through Lucian,

"we are in a restaurant in the middle of the city!" he warned seeing that

Farooq was about speaking and instead the table broke out with whispers, they

all had opinions to give

"All I'm saying is that we now know his God

only made sure he won every case and not protect him from harms way"

Lucian smirked, knowing he was poking the bear on the right spot

"it hurts that out of every law student that

passed the bar, our company chose to employ the most stupid one!" Farooq said,

wiped his mouth and left the table.

"what is it he used to say" he

questioned loudly knowing fully well someone would respond "Never pity a true

Christian" two other colleagues chorused and laughed as they watched Farooq

leave the restaurant.

The laughing sounds quickly died down at

the burning eyes of Eve

"What?" he rolled his eyes at her

"Even with Job in the hospital, you're still

not second in command" Vanessa who had been watching in silence chirped in

coldly

"I know that!" Lucian shouted, he pushed

his plate away angrily and got up "But atleast I don't give all my wins and

hardwork to a God who doesn't exist" he added and left.

"You know a lot of people hate Job's

gut" Vanessa whispered to Eve who looked cheerful now at Lucian's outburst

"you just need to hold on to the truth on who Job's really is" she

continued, Eve laughed as she got up to leave,

"Mind

you, everybody knows Job is a total asshole" she said and was met with

accepting nods "But he was so good at his Job" she continued, cursing

under her breath the tears that betrayed her "o God, I'm not crying for that

asshat" she said to herself, drying her tears "He added light, annoyingly

to every room he entered, he won every client's trust even before trials, he

always believe in God and second chances, so I'd be darned to ever let anybody

steal that away from us" she concluded, dropping the tissue she used to

wipe her hands and was met with smiles and applause. And Lucian heard it all!

"And I'm suppose to be the stupid one"

he said before exiting the restaurant "if his God was real and as good as

everybody claims, shouldn't Job be in a courtroom kicking asses and not laying

in the hospital like a vegetable?" he spat out,

Picking

up his phone, he texted a private investigator

I've

gat work for you

He pocketed his phone and went for

his next trial.

"I am going to ask you nicely one last

time" the killer said to his prey who he tied and hanged upside down "Who

sent you?" He asked as he sharpened the knife he just pulled out the fire.

Whatever he had done to his prey had left his face and body swollen, the boil

under his left eye was bleeding. Just as he stabbed his shoulder "Ahhh"

the prey shouted

Beep,

beep

"And

who do we have here" the killer pulled the phone, it was a text from a

contact saved as Lucian Edgar

How's

it going?!

"The

universe sure has a sense of humor" the killer chuckled

"Should

I respond or should I pay your stupid client a visit?" he laughed even louder

as his gaze moved from the private investigator to Hassan still body.

************************************************

 "Cool, someone's playing detecting"

Eve pushed her way into the very spacious office admiring the files pasted on

the board

Lucian on cue pulled the files and roughly

hid them under his desk "How can I help you?" He said, moving his gaze to more

files that laid open on the couch

"Be

fast about it I'm busy" he rolled his eye at the files on eve's hands

"I'm not here to judge you" she grinned,

knowing she had caught Lucian a tight corner he couldn't even deny "Here"

she said, handing him the files "A quick sweep on Mr. Hassan and his

imposter" she continued as Lucian began to flip through the pages of the

said file

"it so happens that they are brothers,

twins infact. One child was left behind while the other was taken and

abandoned" she paused, eyeing the hot chocolate on the table, Lucian

sighed and gave her a quick nod to go ahead.

"How did you know?" Lucian asked as he

watched Eve gulping down his morning drink

"uhm, hello?!" Eve slammed the mug

dramatically "I'm head of Research Team in a law firm and my boss got knocked

down by a bad guy, of course I would know" she continued, raising an eye

brow like she was stating a fact.

"No" Lucian countered, shaking his head as

he led her to the door, she was eyeing his lunch packed bag "I meant how do you

know I was working the case?" he corrected when they got to the door

She rolled her eyes and left without any response.

Hassan winced in pain as his eyes opened

and then closed back, it had been hours and the killer was still ripping organs

from a body

"Are you also going to remove every tooth

he has?" he groaned as he watched the killer rip the eyes from the hung body

The killer smile only grew wider as he

plucked the eyes from their sockets, he wasn't even using a glove. "since

you're awake, shall we begin?" he cleaned his bloody hands on his short before

walking towards Hassan

"Why did you have to kill the lawyer?"

Hassan started to say "the rest I understand but the lawyer?" he was panicking,

why the fucking fuck is he walking in slow motion, no scratch that why's he

walking towards me with a sickle

"what is your goal, really?" I said through

the lump of fear filling my throat or my voice canal if it's a thing, the

killer squat down beside me and chuckled

"My

goal?" he asked and laughed again, revealing is very yellow teeth, he stood up

in one quick motion, grabbed my hair and dragged me to the table,

it's

moment like this I don't even know how to react, should I fight back and risk

being killed or should I stay still and still get killed?

"This

is my goal" he answered, slamming my head hard on the table, I couldn't

make out what he was saying over the loud pitch sound that was going on in my

head from the impact, I tried freeing myself from his grip but it was a lost

cause

"wait, wait wait!" I shouted as the lifted

sickle came to a full halt my voice is the only weapon I have right now I

better make the best of it

Beep,

beep, a phone chimed

"How

do you plan on getting away" I asked, racking my brain for something else

"The police now know you're not me, you bludgeoned a judge and shot a lawyer

multiple times" I continue to tattle and tried angling my head to see the

killer's face

"That's all for today" he said before

pushing me away, he had been on the phone texting this whole time I was

shitting my pants.

"By the way, the lawyer isn't dead" he

confessed "Yet" he added with a smile as he began to put his weapons into

a bag

"whh…. What?" I tried to make a sentence but

my brain was still in flight mode to come up with anything "what nonsense, I

saw you shoot ...….." my voice trailed off as I marveled at the news

"Well, I just have to try again, don't i?" I

hate rhetorical questions, but still he asked before throwing his bag over

his shoulder, his hand still gripping the handle

"One

question" his voice now laced with anger, I took several steps backward

not ready to give an answer to what I know he doesn't want one

"Why did they give you the golden life and

not me?" the killer asked as he burn through me with his eyes, without waiting

for an answer he left.

 ******************************************************************

 Quickly I rushed to the

table not for reasons you might think, its been a week since I last cut myself

and all these overwhelming feeling could only be stopped one way, I need to get

my head straight if I'm going to come up with an escape plan, my eyes widen in

joy when my gaze landed on a blade under the table.

Picking up the blade, I exhaled, it felt

like all the weight of the world had been lifted off my shoulders, finally. I

sat down, tears raining down my eyes

Did

he jus say golden life? He doesn't even know anything about my life, no one

does. All people ever do is come up with questions and expect me to have

answers, I'm tired.

I

kind of do admire Job, he at least believes in a God that didn't let him down

die.

I

really wish he could save me too, not from my serial killing imposter, but from

this and with that I rolled my trouser to my knee and did

an expert cut.
