Chapter 19 - Chapter 19 The Battle for the Broken Back

"The things between us cannot be known to others, otherwise it will affect my star career."

"Did you do something to me? Why did my mind turn to you after you left?"

"So, what is our relationship now?"

Listening to Shayna's questions one after another, Connors lowered his head and said, "Don't talk. Keep eating."

He knew he couldn't escape this time when he saw her sticking her head out from the hotel roof. He'd had to go upstairs and get it over with first. Now, a faint gray light was beginning to break in the eastern sky. The two of them, having eaten and drunk their fill, sat on a chair made by Connors's "Green of All Things" power and stopped moving.

"Did you create the ice in the stadium during the day?" Connors asked. He asked knowingly; the stadium being wrapped in ice for no reason was a huge event. Besides "Mr. Freeze," Shayna was the most suspicious person with that kind of ability. He was now almost certain that she was a character from the Marvel universe, and "Frostflower" was her hero title, which was obviously related to ice and snow. What's more, during their own fight just now, Shayna had shown off an incredible display of ice power that he hadn't experienced before.

"Right, it's me," Shayna, who was no longer in the throes of passion, looked a little silly and sweet. She directly admitted it in the face of Connors's inquiry.

"Why did you come to Gotham?" Connors was instinctively curious.

"To hold a concert, otherwise what else? However, security here in Gotham doesn't seem to be very good. The concert just started and one day later I've encountered all kinds of things." Shayna remembered the Poison Ivy she'd met during the day, who had made her unable to fight back. A trace of fear flashed in her heart, but she didn't seem to take it to heart that the Penguin had led gang members to shoot and bomb the place.

"You're wrong," Connors corrected. "Actually, the security here is quite good. There is a local saying: 'The folk customs are simple in Gotham City, and talents are emerging in large numbers from Arkham.'"

The sweet, naive Shayna was stunned by him.

"Okay, I won't tell you this anymore. I have a request, and I wonder if you can agree?" Connors said.

"What request?"

"Let me eat soft rice."

Shayna's eyes lit up. "Okay! It's good to eat soft rice! Tell me, what do you want to do?" As she spoke, she half-closed her eyes.

Gotham doesn't have the phrase 'soft rice.' She understands it as something restricted… "Soft rice" was slang for a man living off a woman's wealth, a kept man. Connors covered Shayna's mouth with his hand and said seriously, "I'm going to borrow a car from you."

The car that Harley Quinn had snatched had been hung in the sky by "Spider-Silk" Cindy Moon, so naturally, he could only abandon it. Connors's trips these days were either Cindy dragging him to fly in the sky or walking on his own two legs. Gotham was so big; if he had to walk to Wayne Manor, it would take him forever.

Bruce Wayne staggered out of the Gotham Woods and collapsed into the seat of his Batmobile.

"Cough… ahem!" An extremely uncomfortable coughing sound came from his mouth, and his whole body became even weaker. It took him a long time to recover before coughing and driving in the direction of Wayne Manor.

According to information from Alfred, Poison Ivy had taken Harley Quinn back to the woods after she came into Gotham City. Not wanting to keep dragging his feet, Batman had driven directly here to ask Ivy if Connors's abilities were related to her. However, the former Poison Ivy, though cold-hearted, was willing to say a few words to her old rival. This time, he didn't know what was going on, but she chose to keep her doors closed.

Not only did Batman get rejected, but when he was planning to force his way in, she released a large number of poisonous spores, making him extremely weak.

Ivy's road doesn't work, so I have to think of another way… Batman hadn't gotten very far in his car, and he already had the next plan in mind.

Naturally, it was impossible for the Batmobile to enter through the main gate of Wayne Manor; that would be tantamount to announcing to all of Gotham that "Batman is Wayne." The entrance was in a lake a few kilometers away from the manor, which belonged to Wayne Group's territory. A large area around it was private domain, and electronic barriers were set up to ensure that no one would probe the entrance.

But today, as Batman coughed, he found an alarm prompt in the car from that entrance. Even when sick, Batman, who was alert by nature, did not intend to take risks and immediately prepared to head to another entrance located on a mountain. He was now in poor health and had to hasten back to the Batcave for treatment.

But before his car could start again, the Batmobile was lifted into the sky by a violent blast.

"Ahem…" He started coughing again, unable to control the Batmobile that was constantly rolling in mid-air. He allowed it to fall heavily to the ground. Then, the sound of machinery being mounted sounded. Bruce Wayne saw a portable window breaker modified with impact piles placed outside the Batmobile, and then the window glass began to receive rounds of heavy impacts.

Bang!

"Cough…"

Bang!

"Damn, the button failed…"

Bang!

Bruce, inside the Batmobile, forced himself to calm down. He took a burst of tranquilizer into his arm and tried the Batmobile's systems again. Finding that it had stalled completely, he took a deep breath. It was not in his character to sit still and wait for death. Even though he was currently in poor physical condition, he still chose to take the initiative to attack.

Click!

Above the Batmobile, a stealth exit sped open, and Batman launched himself from the car to the roof. At this point, he also finally discovered who the guy who had attacked him was.

Several chemical pipes extended from his back to the back of his brain. His extremely developed muscles were almost deformed. Standing there alone, he was like a mountain of meat, full of oppression. He wore a mask with a black border and a white face, and his eyes were red. He was clearly Batman's old rival, Bane!

As soon as Batman gained his footing, Bane's punch came with the wind. With such a powerful blow, even a healthy Batman could not take it head-on, let alone now. He could only avoid it first. But halfway through hiding, he began to feel bad again and couldn't help but cough.

One punch, two punches, three punches! Batman did not dodge at all, and Bane's attack forced him back with three heavy punches, leaving him at the lowest level of physical weakness he had ever experienced.

And Bane seemed to be about to kill him. He raised the Batman who was lying on the ground, grabbing his legs with one hand and his neck with the other. He slammed him to the ground, while raising his right knee high.

CRACK!

Bane snapped Batman's spine.

The engine roared in the hotel's underground garage. A muscle car lit up its headlights and headed straight for Wayne Manor amid the engine's roar. Connors finally drove all the way after paying the price he deserved for a soft meal, with the "woo-woo-woo" of a police car that had slipped a long way behind his butt.

His driving skills were not very good, but thanks to his master tricks, he got rid of the police cars without much difficulty and finally came to the location of Wayne Manor. But as soon as he got out of the car, his spider-sense told him something was wrong. A big fight was taking place a few kilometers away.

When he arrived in a hurry, he happened to see Bane lifting Batman up, in a posture that seemed about to break him in half.
