Chapter 66
Joe's POV
I didn't want to think.
I didn't want to think about the conversation with Ivan or about the damn alcohol I saw him drink, or even about Lily.
So I slid into the car and slammed the door shut harder than I should have. The driver wasn't in yet. Ivan was still upstairs wrapping up whatever royal nonsense he had going on. I just needed a minute to breathe, to pretend none of this was real.
I leaned my head against the cool glass window, closing my eyes for a beat. Then I pulled out my phone and opened the reservation app.
"Fine, dinner with Jane. Might as well tick that off the list and fulfill all righteousness," I muttered, rubbing my temple as I booked the last table at some fancy rooftop place Jane wouldn't complain about.
But just as I was about to hit confirm, a noise outside drew my attention.
It was screamings. It was loud, frantic. Human panic at its rawest.
I glanced up, my fingers pausing mid-swipe.
More yelling then I heard tires screeching.
