Joe's POV

"…and I spent hours making sure the sauce didn't burn," Jane said, waving her fork in the air like a conductor directing an invisible orchestra. "Do you know how long it took to get the candles just right?"

"No. How long?". I asked absentmindedly. 

Her voice faded into the background, a meaningless hum under the roaring questions inside my head. I couldn't stop thinking about Lily's arm. The puncture marks. Not just one or two, but several. It was red and swollen, like they hadn't healed properly before it was punctured again. 

Why would she have those?. Why did I get the exact feeling I got when I touched that champagne bottle in my uncle's office?

 What the hell was going on?

I dragged my eyes away from the wine glass and looked at her again…Lily.
