Chapter 76
Lily's POV
The moment I stepped out from behind the bathroom stall, my heart dropped.
Jane stood there.
Her gown was deep emerald, the fabric catching the light like liquid silk. The off-shoulder cut framed her delicate collarbones, and the crown resting on her dark curls looked like it had been stolen from a fairytale. She smiled, but there was nothing warm in it…it was the kind of smile that made the air feel colder.
"Well, well, well," she purred, tilting her head. "So is it you making the place smell like this… or is it the toilet?"
My palms went cold. My breath got caught somewhere between my chest and throat.
She stepped closer, her heels clicking against the tile. "You've gone pale, Lily. My, you have lost weight. Is it stress? Hunger?" She gave a mock pout. "Or maybe humiliation?"
I tried to keep my head down, but my fingers were shaking where they clutched the rag I'd been cleaning with.
