Lily's POV
Mark's hand was still frozen mid-air, but my eyes were no longer on him.They were locked on the man standing in the doorway.
Joe.
"Your Highness." I dipped my head instantly, my heart thudding like it was trying to break out of my chest.
The air in the room shifted. It was heavy, like the oxygen had been sucked out. His expression wasn't just cold, it was that quiet, lethal kind of rage that made your skin prickle. His gaze moved between Mark and me like he was deciding which of us was the problem. Like he was still trying to comprehend what was going on.
For some reason,a ball of guilt curled in my chest, even though I hadn't done anything wrong.
"What's going on here?" His voice was calm, way too calm. "And why aren't you enjoying the party like everyone else?"
"I…Your Highness, I…" I began, but Mark's glare sliced my sentence clean in half.
