Chapter 89Joe's POV
[Some minutes back]
The bushes were damp, their leaves slick from the midnight dew. I crouched low beside the door, the faint glow of the streetlamp barely reaching us. Ivan stood just a few feet from me, his stance casual, but I caught the subtle tension in his shoulders. He was ready, the way he always was.
But me? My chest was tight. My heart wouldn't stop hammering.
Ridiculous right?.
I'd led my pack into wars bloodier than nightmares, faced enemies that made lesser wolves crumble with fear, and stood undefeated. Yet here I was, crouched outside a tiny apartment in the poorest part of the city, feeling like my chest was being crushed.
Why?
Because she was in there.
Because Lily,stubborn, infuriating Lily, was the bait tonight. She chose to be the bait for this mission
And my wolf wouldn't shut up about it.
