Chapter 95Joe's POV
The night air was sharp against my skin, but it did nothing to cool the fire that burned inside me. I had been standing out here far too long, watching the trees sway against the midnight breeze, but my mind wouldn't rest. Not tonight. Maybe not ever again.
This… this was my reality now.
The royal guards were standing…well hiding behind the door, despite me telling them to leave me alone. I know that they are worried I might slump and fall since Lily is not with me right now, but I don't like this feeling at all. I don't. I hate being pitied.
A life chained to a poison that has refused to let me go. A poison that only Lily could tame. It meant being bound to her, whether I admitted it or not.
And maybe,deep down, that wasn't the curse it sounded like. But it was the weight of everything else that crushed me.
