Chapter 110Lily's POV
The plan was simple. Leave the room before midnight. Don't look back. Find Joe, Sonia, and Xavier outside the palace walls where the whole plan was supposed to start taking place.
But nothing about this felt simple.
I sat on the edge of the bed, my hands trembling as I stuffed the few belongings I owned into a sack. A comb, an old cloth from my mother, a pair of shoes that had seen better days. My breath came short and ragged.
"Pull yourself together," I whispered, but my voice cracked halfway through.
The grey dress Sonia had given me clung to my skin like ash. It wasn't pretty. That was the point, it was supposed to make me invisible, unremarkable, just another servant fading into the marble halls. But no matter how plain the dress was, it couldn't hide the way my hands shook or the way my stomach twisted with every thought of failure.
