Chapter 40 - Chapter 40. Ancient Gear Fusion Build! The Key Core—Ancient Gear Wyvern!

Chapter 40. Ancient Gear Fusion Build! The Key Core—Ancient Gear Wyvern!

With doubts still lingering.

Dr. Vellian Crowler steadied himself.

Maybe it will be just like Dark Magician.

Only after seeing the overall deckbuilding concept can he pass judgment.

In the Main World.

The video had already started playing.

The video creator, "Ancient Gear Is Faith," began speaking in a leisurely tone.

Ancient Gear Is Faith: "Hello, everyone!"

Ancient Gear Is Faith: "I'm excited to bring you an introduction to the Ancient Gear deck—what I like to call the professor's deck."

Ancient Gear Is Faith: "I really like this strategy."

Ancient Gear Is Faith: "After multiple waves of support, its power has seen a notable boost."

Ancient Gear Is Faith: "Next, let's look at the overall build."

With those words, the short video cut to the Ancient Gear decklist display.

As soon as the list appeared, every Duelist in the GX world fell silent.

There weren't many unusual flourishes or highlights in the Main Deck, with the only moving parts being the choice and number of hand traps.

But that wasn't why they went silent.

It was the Extra Deck lineup.

More than half of it was stacked with Fusion ace monsters.

Only a small number of Links and Xyz.

All of it pointed to one thing.

This build is primarily Fusion-centric.

And its ace monsters—most of them are Fusions.

Precisely because of this, it shattered the students' existing image of Ancient Gear.

In their minds, Dr. Vellian Crowler's Ancient Gear deck mainly leaned on Ancient Gear Golem's 3000 ATK to press the attack.

As for anything beyond that, they rarely saw it.

But now, the Ancient Gear build revealed by the higher-tier world is completely centered on Fusion plays.

Without a doubt, the higher-tier world's Ancient Gear has broken the mold of how it's played in their world.

...

In the Duel Monsters world.

Seeing this newly presented build, Seto Kaiba was the first to knit his brows.

Every Fusion in that Extra Deck looked strong.

Is this yet another top-tier strategy?

Compared to Blue-Eyes White Dragon, which one is stronger?

"Ancient Gear, huh?"

"I remember that cheater Keith used a Machine deck too."

Joey Wheeler smacked his lips.

What popped into his head was that cheater with Barrel Dragon—Bandit Keith.

On the other side, Keith nearly coughed up blood when he heard Joey bring that up.

Talk about rubbing salt in the wound.

That said, this Machine deck looked quite powerful at first glance.

Multiple Fusion aces meant there were plenty of boss options.

The build had a lot of monsters and Spells, with some Traps included as well.

The deck composition seemed fairly reasonable.

They just didn't yet know how it actually operated.

...…

Back in the short video.

After the quick look at the list, the creator moved on to the core cards of the Ancient Gear build.

Ancient Gear Is Faith: "After the build overview, let's see which cards are mandatory staples."

Ancient Gear Is Faith: "First up are the in-archetype, must-run-at-3 key cards."

Ancient Gear Is Faith: "This is also the strongest search piece in the Ancient Gear deck."

"Ancient Gear Wyvern!!!"

[Card Name: Ancient Gear Wyvern (Level 4)]

[Attribute: EARTH]

[Type: Machine]

[ATK/DEF: 1700/1200]

"In its own archetype, this card plays the same role that Elemental HERO Stratos does for HERO."

"Effect 1."

"'If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can add 1 "Ancient Gear" card from your Deck to your hand, except "Ancient Gear Wyvern", also you cannot Set cards for the rest of this turn. You can only use this effect of "Ancient Gear Wyvern" once per turn.'"

"A powerful, no-nonsense search point."

"At the same time, remember the self-restriction."

"Once you activate it, you cannot Set cards until the end of the turn."

"This clause can really come back to bite you."

"If you search a Spell/Trap and then can't Set it, you'll get punished—so always play around the self-restriction."

"As for Effect 2—'If this card attacks, your opponent cannot activate monster effects until the end of the Damage Step.'"

"Effect 2 can be clutch in the right spot."

"For example, it stops Flip effects on monsters your opponent Set, and it can also pick off many monsters with effects that trigger when they are destroyed."

"So it's not hard to see just how central this card is to the Ancient Gear build, right?"

Those remarks left quite a few Duelists feeling foggy.

In the GX world, Duelists who hadn't yet learned the ropes naturally didn't grasp how valuable that second effect really is.

But the ones who had, upon hearing it, had to reevaluate Wyvern.

It searches, and it suppresses monster effects in battle.

That means it can be your utility piece and your beater to deal with troublesome monsters.

On that point alone, running 3 copies is a no-brainer.
