Chapter 41. Ancient Gear's Smooth Summons! The GX World Went Wild!
Professor Crowler had only finished looking at this one "Ancient Gear Wyvern" card and was already getting excited!
As expected!
The way the higher world understands Ancient Gear is completely different from his!
Just this Wyvern alone has already brought far more than a small power boost to the Deck!
Let alone the other Ancient Gear cards they have not seen yet!
"Mamma mia! Keep going, keep going!"
"Mr. Sei Yuki! Hurry and continue!"
"Let me see more! Which Ancient Gear cards are must-includes!"
Professor Crowler's excited tone made Sei Yuki smile inwardly.
The short clip resumed playback.
Ancient Gear Is Faith: "Three copies of Wyvern in the build is no problem."
Ancient Gear Is Faith: "Next comes considering the other Ancient Gear monsters to include."
Ancient Gear Is Faith: "How should I put it? If we focus on the Fusion axis—"
"—then in Deck construction we definitely will not put in too many bricks."
"For example, the classic [Ancient Gear Golem] basically will not be included in high numbers, about 1–2 copies."
"Then [Ancient Gear Reactor Dragon] is also at 0–1."
"So it is not hard to see."
"The emphasis is still on the other key Ancient Gear cards."
"For example, this card!"
"[Ancient Gear Tanker]!"
[Card Name: Ancient Gear Tanker (Level 4)]
[Attribute: EARTH]
[Type: Machine]
[ATK/DEF: 1300/1300]
With the second must-play card revealed,
the duelists of the six Duel Worlds immediately shifted their gaze to this card.
Unlike the previous one entirely!
This card is not for searching, nor for negating monster effects by battle.
It is the first effect:
If this card is Normal or Special Summoned, you can Special Summon 1 "Ancient Gear" monster from your hand, except "Ancient Gear Tanker," ignoring its Summoning conditions.
If your opponent controls a monster, you can instead choose 1 in your Graveyard.
The second effect—
you can destroy 1 face-up card you control to increase your in-archetype monster's ATK by 600.
Comparing the two effects,
they still had not realized the role of the second effect.
They were only seeing the unconditional in-archetype summoning potential brought by that first effect.
But this
is only the beginning.
As subsequent Ancient Gear support monsters appeared one after another,
the GX World went completely wild.
Ancient Gear Is Faith: "You thought that was it? No, there are even more cards that can string together combos!"
Ancient Gear Is Faith: "Let's look at them together; you will understand right away."
Card 1! [Ancient Gear Statue]! Include 0–1!
Level 2! 500/800!
First effect:
If your opponent controls more monsters than you do, you can Special Summon it.
It comes with its own Special Summon ability.
Second effect:
You can Tribute it to Special Summon, from your hand or Deck, 1 "Ancient Gear Golem" or 1 monster that lists it by name, except "Ancient Gear Statue," ignoring its Summoning conditions.
It provides in-archetype summoning that ignores conditions,
similar to Tanker.
Card 2! [Ancient Gear Commander]! Include 1–2!
Level 4! 500/2000!
First effect:
You can send 1 "Ancient Gear Golem" from your hand, Deck, or face-up Monster Zone to the Graveyard; immediately after this effect resolves, Normal Summon 1 "Ancient Gear" monster.
Yet another outrageous effect that provides in-archetype summoning.
Second effect:
If you Normal or Special Summon "Ancient Gear Golem," you can Special Summon 1 "Ancient Gear Golem" from your hand or Graveyard, ignoring its Summoning conditions.
Yet again another effect that provides summoning while ignoring conditions.
Third effect:
You can banish this card from your Graveyard to place 1 "Ancient Gear" Continuous Trap from your hand face-up on your field.
It provides the ability to set up a face-up Trap.
Three effects, and not a single one is useless.
...
The GX World.
After watching these cards that can all provide unconditional summoning for the Ancient Gear archetype,
an explosive buzz of discussion erupted.
"Holy crap! The professor's Ancient Gear is this strong in Mr. Sei Yuki's higher world?"
"Hiss—these low-Level monsters! Which of them is not stronger than what the professor runs now? See? That is what 'professional' means!"
"Uh, I am done. The hardest thing about Ancient Gear was always how hard it was to summon the ace—now that I have seen this, I am numb."
"Right? After seeing this, I even want to ask: is Tribute Summon already obsolete? If anyone is still using Tribute Summon, I am laughing at them!"
"...."
The students who had experienced Ancient Gear firsthand—especially those who had lost to Professor Crowler—were all exploding with chatter and snark.
These cards all make one thing clear.
Summoning Ancient Gear high-Level monsters has already become a matter of simply lifting a finger.
Or rather,
summoning Ancient Gear high-Level monsters has become unbelievably smooth.
Low-Level monsters—
which one of them cannot help you summon?
Professor Crowler was dumbfounded after watching.
In a flash,
he understood why there were that many Fusion cards in the Extra Deck.
So that is it.
The ace he had once been so proud of—Ancient Gear Golem—can no longer hold the battlefield by itself.
