Chapter 111. Divine Arsenal's Proper Xyz Summon! The Iconic "Diffusion Wave-Motion" Wipes Out Three Dragons!
At the very moment Duelists across the various worlds were wondering about the final outcome, the turn inside the short video had already passed to the Blue-Eyes player.
Blue-Eyes player: "It's my turn, draw!"
Blue-Eyes player: "I will definitely defeat you here!"
"I activate the Cup of Ace you gave me!"
"I call heads."
As the coin was tossed, the result shown was tails.
That meant the chance to draw slipped away.
Blue-Eyes player: "Tails, huh! I didn't draw."
Blue-Eyes player: "But it doesn't matter! I activate Monster Reborn from my hand!"
"I revive Blue-Eyes White Dragon from my Graveyard!"
"At the same time, the effect of The Ultimate Creature of Destruction in my Graveyard can activate!"
"When I Summon Blue-Eyes White Dragon, I can Set this card to my field!"
"Then I activate Change of Heart!"
"Your Blue-Eyes White Dragon comes over to my field!"
"Enter Battle Phase!"
"Attack!"
Grim Cousin: "I activate the second Lightforce Sword in my Graveyard!"
Grim Cousin: "Banish this card to activate it. This turn, your monsters cannot declare direct attacks."
Blue-Eyes player: "Main Phase 2!"
Blue-Eyes player: "Contact Fusion with my two Blue-Eyes White Dragons!"
"Blue-Eyes Twin Burst Dragon!"
"I Set 1 card!"
"My turn ends."
The advantage once again fell under the Blue-Eyes player's control.
Two Blue-Eyes White Dragons Contact Fusing without a Spell.
Blue-Eyes Twin Burst Dragon hit the field in Defense Position, packing battle destruction resistance and the "if it can't beat it, don't target—banish" effect.
This counterattack was absolutely flawless.
But no one expected the Grim Cousin's luck to be this good.
On that earlier Grass mill, both copies of Lightforce Sword got sent to the Graveyard.
They blocked two attacks.
And they bought him a chance to see the next turn.
Duelists from every world fixed their eyes on the Grim Cousin inside the short video.
Right now, this draw would be critical.
Grim Cousin: "My turn! I'll stake victory on this draw!"
Grim Cousin: "Draw!"
Grim Cousin: "The card I drew is—"
"Magicalized Fusion!"
"Activate it!"
"I banish Fusion Materials for a Spellcaster-Type Fusion Monster listed on that monster from my field and/or Graveyard, and Fusion Summon that Fusion Monster from my Extra Deck!"
Blue-Eyes player: "I chain my Set Quick-Play Spell!"
Blue-Eyes player: "Ultimate Fusion!"
"I shuffle three Blue-Eyes White Dragons from my Graveyard back into the Deck!"
"Fusion Summon! Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon!"
Grim Cousin: "I banish from my Graveyard Magician's Rod, Dark Magician Girl, Palladium Oracle Mahad, Apprentice Illusion Magician, and Magicians' Souls for a five-fold Fusion!"
Grim Cousin: "What's the point of Summoning Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon?"
"Come forth—Quintet Magician!"
"Activate its effect: because it was Fusion Summoned using five types of Spellcaster monsters as material, I can activate this on Summon—destroy all cards your opponent controls."
"Blow up your entire field!"
Blue-Eyes player: "I flip the Trap I retrieved earlier—The Ultimate Creature of Destruction!"
Blue-Eyes player: "I target Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon. This turn, it's unaffected by other cards' effects and cannot be destroyed by battle!"
"Your destruction effect does nothing to my Ultimate Dragon!"
Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon was chained and protected in advance.
But the rest of the Blue-Eyes player's field, including Blue-Eyes Twin Burst Dragon, was all destroyed and sent to the Graveyard.
On the field, only two 4500 ATK monsters remained.
And at this moment, both monsters were vanillas.
In this series of back-and-forth interactions, it felt like both sides were showing their absolute limit.
GX world.
Seeing the earlier plays, then this, Jaden Yuki could no longer hold back his excitement.
"Cool! Too cool!"
"I never imagined Blue-Eyes White Dragon and Dark Magician could grind resources to this extent!"
"I don't even know who to root for anymore!"
"I don't even know which of you will win!"
The more Jaden spoke, the louder he got, while the surrounding students were even louder than him in their discussions.
Seto Kaiba and Yugi Muto.
At Duel Academy, you could say they're celebrity-level figures.
No wonder Jaden and the Academy students were like this.
ZEXAL world.
Yuma Tsukumo and Astral had originally thought that the Blue-Eyes player's Fusion might be a misplay.
But now it seems… not at all.
That earlier Trap retrieval of The Ultimate Creature of Destruction looked like a card he had anticipated as his possible hidden trump.
With that card, he preserved a chance to see his next turn.
And after this exchange, Quintet Magician, which looked potent on paper, had fallen into a passive position because of that Trap.
Attacking was bad, not attacking was bad.
If he couldn't deal with the opponent right now, on the next turn Quintet Magician would definitely not survive.
Back to the short video.
Clearly aware of this, the Grim Cousin pondered again and again.
He decided to use his final resources to gamble for a chance at seeing the next turn.
Grim Cousin: "My turn continues! I activate Swords of Revealing Light!"
Grim Cousin: "As long as this card remains in my Spell & Trap Zone, your monsters cannot declare attacks. During the End Phase of your third turn, destroy it."
Grim Cousin: "I Set 1 card! My turn is over."
Blue-Eyes player: "Since you staked everything on that draw!"
Blue-Eyes player: "Now, it's my turn!"
"Yaaah!"
"Draw!"
"I drew my second Change of Heart!"
"I'll twist your Quintet Magician to my side!"
Grim Cousin: "So what? With Swords of Revealing Light on the field, you still can't attack me!"
Grim Cousin: "At the end of the turn, you'll give that monster back!"
Blue-Eyes player: "Oh? Hehehe—did you forget this monster I keep in my Extra Deck?"
Blue-Eyes player: "That's right! I have two Level 12 monsters on the field!"
"Lay down the Overlay Network! I will conduct an Xyz Summon!"
"This monster—the endpoint of Xyz! You definitely know it!"
"I directly overlay!"
"Xyz Summon! Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS – Sky Thunder!"
"I activate ZEUS's effect! Detach 2 materials!"
"Send all your cards on the field to the Graveyard! Your Swords of Revealing Light and your Set card are gone!"
"Enter Battle Phase!"
"It's over!"
"ZEUS! Attack!"
Grim Cousin: "I activate the last Trap in my Graveyard—Lightforce Sword!"
Grim Cousin: "This turn, your monsters cannot declare direct attacks!"
Another one?
Another Lightforce Sword?
Just when everyone thought the Blue-Eyes Duelist had already taken this Duel, that beam of sealing light flared again from the Graveyard, making every Duelist jolt upright.
One by one, they stared, dumbfounded, at the Trap being banished from the Graveyard in the video.
Even the Blue-Eyes player was stunned.
He'd already used two earlier.
If memory served, there were no Lightforce Swords left.
So why was there another in the Graveyard?
Printing cards, are we?
No.
It's that Set card.
Almost at the same time, protagonists from every world suddenly thought of the one card that had been Set earlier.
And ZEUS's effect had just sent that Set to the Graveyard.
That Set was Lightforce Sword.
With that realization, the whole world erupted.
ZEXAL world.
The first to crack and go into meltdown were Xyz players themselves.
Level 12 monsters! Two Level 12 monsters!
This wasn't some 4- or 8-material Overlay Network.
This was Level 12—the endpoint of Xyz—Level 12.
The key point:
This was ZEUS properly Xyz Summoned.
Completely different from those ZEUS that climb up after battling.
Too cool. Too cathartic. Absolutely soul-shaking.
VRAINS world.
Even Duelists from the Link-focused world, witnessing that last-second stalling play, couldn't help but show astonishment and respect.
"Alright, alright! I didn't expect he'd get one more chance! That was really slick!"
"It's just that he's got no hand left. He can only rely on that fated top-deck next turn. No chance."
"Yeah. With ZEUS on the opponent's field, how does he clear it?"
"That was already the limit. About there. Well played!"
Yusaku Fujiki and the Left Leader had practically both concluded that the Dark Magician player was destined to lose.
Just one draw.
The opponent still had a 3000 ATK ZEUS.
Most of the Deck's resources were in the Graveyard.
Dark Magician isn't exactly a deck that makes heavy reuse of the Graveyard.
If he doesn't lose, who does?
No way… he's going to top-deck a miracle again?
Inside the short video, the turn passed once more to the Grim Cousin.
Grim Cousin: "My turn! Draw!"
Grim Cousin: "I activate Swords of Revealing Light!"
"My turn ends!"
Under the gaze of all, he really did start top-decking miracles.
A single Swords of Revealing Light.
He could stall for a full three turns again.
On the other hand, his opponent actually didn't have much left either.
They could only go draw-for-draw now.
At this point, Duelists finally noticed.
One relies on ZEUS.
One relies on Swords of Revealing Light.
Both began drawing one-for-one, to see who would draw the final, fate-deciding comeback card.
The more it went on, the more exciting the Duel became.
Duelists across all worlds held their breath and looked to the Blue-Eyes player.
Blue-Eyes player: "My turn, draw."
Blue-Eyes player: "I Set 1 and end."
Grim Cousin: "My turn, draw!"
Grim Cousin: "I activate Raigeki!"
Blue-Eyes player: "Muda! I chain the Quick-Play Spell—Mystik Wok!"
"You want to destroy it? I'll just stir-fry ZEUS and eat it!"
"I recover 3000 Life Points!"
Grim Cousin: "Eat ZEUS? Aren't you afraid you'll choke!"
"My turn ends!"
Blue-Eyes player: "My turn, draw!"
Blue-Eyes player: "Turn end."
Grim Cousin: "My turn, draw."
Grim Cousin: "I activate Cup of Ace—I call heads!"
As that card—capable of turning a bicycle into a motorcycle—was activated, the Blue-Eyes opponent immediately tensed up.
And Duelists from other worlds were the same.
Everyone was eager to see whether the coin flip would be blessed by the heavens.
When the coin landed, all eyes were on it—it was heads.
Grim Cousin: "A true Duelist! Everything is inevitable!"
Grim Cousin: "I draw 2 cards!"
"Then, my turn ends."
That sequence left the Duelists puzzled.
In the DM world, Yugi Muto and Joey Wheeler almost thought the Grim Cousin could finish the comeback.
And yet after drawing two, he just ended his turn.
Could it be he still didn't have a chance to explode?
If so, the opportunity passes back to his opponent.
Blue-Eyes player: "My turn, draw."
Blue-Eyes player: "I Set 1 card."
Grim Cousin: "My turn."
Grim Cousin: "Swords of Revealing Light is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard."
Grim Cousin: "Draw!"
"It's here! I can finally go off!"
"I activate from my hand Magicians' Souls!"
Blue-Eyes player: "I chain my Set card as Chain Link 2!"
Blue-Eyes player: "I flip Rage with Eyes of Blue!"
"I Special Summon three Blue-Eyes White Dragons from my Deck!"
"Come! Blue-Eyes! Blue-Eyes! Blue-Eyes!"
Grim Cousin: "Resolve my Souls effect—send a Dark Magician from my Deck to the Graveyard, then discard Souls!"
Grim Cousin: "I Special Summon Dark Magician from my Graveyard!"
"I activate the Spell in my hand—"
"The Eye of Timaeus!"
"I target Dark Magician! Fusion Summon!"
"Dark Paladin!"
"This card's ATK reaches 4900!"
"This… is the end."
The end?
As those words left his mouth, the opponent froze—Duelists in other worlds froze as well.
4900 ATK is indeed higher than 3000 from Blue-Eyes.
But how is it the end?
The opponent had three Blue-Eyes White Dragons on the field. After eating ZEUS, his Life Points were still 4000.
Destroying one doesn't kill.
Next turn he can easily go into Rank 8 Xyz. No doubt he's got Galaxy-Eyes in the Extra Deck.
However you look at it, it can't be over, right?
Unless—
In that instant, in the DM world, Seto Kaiba suddenly trembled, a chill running up his spine.
Familiar memories surged up.
Yugi Muto and Pharaoh Atem were both shaking with excitement.
They were thinking of that same scene in their memories.
That last card in his hand—
Could it be—?
Grim Cousin: "The last card in my hand is—!"
Grim Cousin: "Diffusion Wave-Motion!"
"4000 Life Points?"
"Heh-heh-heh."
"I pay 1000 Life Points to activate this card! I choose Dark Paladin to attack!"
"Super Magician—Line—Break—Slash!"
"Three Blue-Eyes White Dragons—all destroyed!"
"The first—1900 LP!"
"The second—1900 LP!"
"The third—1900 LP!"
"Total Life Points deducted—5700!"
"The Duel is over!"
DM world.
Diffusion Wave-Motion.
It really was.
Seto Kaiba just about coughed up a mouthful of blood.
His earlier memories had been a little blurry, but now that he saw this card, the broken fragments finally snapped back together.
That's right.
It was this card.
Back then, he'd also Summoned three Blue-Eyes White Dragons.
But his opponent, Yugi Muto, used Dark Paladin plus this Diffusion Wave-Motion, and forcibly reversed the entire battle.
That memory, he will never forget.
He had thought that experiencing it himself back then was bad enough.
But now, this Duelist from the higher world actually went through the exact same board state as him.
It was like staring into a mirror.
Dead memories began to attack him.
How could his mental state not collapse?
And Yugi Muto, together with Atem within him, both took a deep breath.
Good grief.
This guy truly has the master's transmission down…
