Chapter 7 - Desperation Is the Driving Force of All the Living Creatures.

There is nothing vindictive in killing humans. I think there is a beauty in the process. Staining their bodies with their own blood requires a lot of talent. Like a rose adorned with thorns, these creatures are ingrained with hypocrisy.

I am pretty sure you all know that the fittest survives. Always. But what about the weak? They perish. Why? Because they lack the awareness and mentality to survive.

Humans always want to stand at the top of food chain. For them, it's normal to squash a bug right underneath their fingers, yet they would be saddened when a lion eats a human. Oh, the irony is so pathetic that I can't stand it. Then again, vampires aren't any better.

Blood trickled down my jaw as I threw Aska's body on the ground. There were a lot of bodies around me, all staining the ground with their blood. There were holes in the walls. Bullet shells were scattered on the ground, while the smell of gunpowder was mixed with blood's intoxicating smell, making my nose miserable with each passing second.

I looked around the room which looked like an incomplete painting. Yet, it was beautiful. 'Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder.' Maybe this quote is correct. Maybe beauty does depend on the perspective of its viewer. No matter what their species is.

There were cuts on my body, which were healing very... very slowly. My eyes narrowed at the sight of them. It looks like my regenerating speed is also affected by this 'inter-dimensional' travelling.

I ripped the sleeves of the dress and saw that the scars had vanished from my hands.

Blood.

Blood is healing this 'new' body of mine. Although, it's slow.

After a few minutes, my wounds vanished, leaving behind an unblemished skin. It didn't leave any scars which proved my point. If I take more blood, my 'body' will regenerate more quickly. Scarring is out of the question.

Suddenly, I heard a noise. Excluding Lisa, there were two heartbeats. One was faint, while the other was beating very, very fast. There is a 'rat' hiding in this room. And he was hiding behind the sofa.

"Come out of your hole. I know you are hiding behind the sofa," I ordered.

A startled noise escaped from the rat's mouth as heard my words. He, then slowly stood up, while still standing behind the sofa. Does he think that the sofa can save him? A boundary to keep me at bay?

When I looked at his face, I was slightly shocked. His face was... breathtaking. He was so gorgeous that it was difficult for me to tell if he was a man or a woman. He had long blonde hair and brown eyes. His lips were as plump as a peach, tempting me to take a bite. As for his lean body, I like it.

He begged, "Please... don't kill me! I will do anything! Anything! I promise!" His eyes were full of tears.

"What's your name?" I asked him.

He replied, "Nathan. Nathan Gauss."

"Well, you can go," I said, pointing my index finger towards the exit.

Nathan gulped audibly. With a fearful expression, he asked, "A-are they... all dead?"

I nodded, "Yes, except their leader. Although, he is probably dying at the moment. You would find his injured body lying at the entrance. Be careful, he might kill you." It would be a desperate attempt for a desperate man.

"You are a vampire?"

I looked into his eyes and smirked, "Yes, I am. Are you scared?"

Nathan slowly nodded his head in affirmation. Fidgeting, he replied, "Y-yes... I-I have read about... 'vampires' in... books. I never... t-thought... they would be r-real."

"Zombies are real, aren't they? So, why not vampires? Besides, you should go now before I change my mind."

Nathan appeared conflicted. He wanted to go but at the same time he didn't. He came out from behind the sofa, and walked towards me. Standing in front of me, he asked, "Can... you take me with you?" His eyes were shinning with hope.

I snorted, "What do you mean? You want me to 'eat' you?"

Flinching, Nathan shook his head frantically in denial. He said, "No! I-I don't... I don't have any place to... go. My family... is dead... and I am alone in this world."

Am I running some sort of charity?

No.

Am I a bodyguard?

No.

Am I a kind person?

No.

I asked, "What can you give me?"

Nathan lowered his gaze and said, "I-I... will... I will give you, my body."

"Apart from that," I sneered. If I wanted to take his body, then he can't stop me. I was just letting him go alive because I liked his face. His survival doesn't matter to me.

Nathan shivered for a moment before looking into my eyes, with a resigned look. He said, "You... need a servant. I will be your servant. Please... I... I can't survive amongst those monsters! They would kill me! You are obviously strong! And you are not a human! So, please! I will do anything for you!"

Wow! This guy is really desperate to survive.

"Anything? To survive?" I asked.

Nathan nodded, "Anything! I will do anything to survive!" He kneeled down and kissed my feet as if he was offering himself to me.

I smirked, "Well, I certainly can't deny you now, can I? Human, be grateful because, I, Valeria has taken an interest in you. Your name will go down in history as my first 'servant.' Are you ready?"

Nathan lifted up his head and said, "Yes. I am." He wants to survive... and what's better way than to become dependent on me for survival. But he doesn't know... that I don't care whether he lives or dies.

At that moment, I heard Lisa let out a groan filled with pain. Oh, she is still alive. I walked towards her and crouched beside her. She was semi-awake.

Lisa was looking at me with desperation. My eyes have seen this look countless times and so I know what she wants from me, despite not fully conscious... she was still clinging to her pathetic life, hoping someone would save her. It never changes, is it? Desperation is the driving force of all the living creatures.

"Do you want to live?" I asked her.

Lisa nodded groggily.

I asked, "Are you prepared for any consequence?" All I got was a nod from her.

I smiled, "I am warning you. Are you still willing to... be 'saved' by me?" I got another nod.

Fine. Let's start, shall we? I took the knife out of her hand and sliced my palm. Pushing my bloody palm into Lisa's mouth, I made her drink my blood.
