Chapter 67 - Ch-66 Friends

The moment the gates of Konoha opened, Kyojiro was greeted by a familiarity that exceeded even his imagination.Minato's steady hand on his shoulder was a firm reminder that all of this… wasn't a dream.

Kyojiro felt the soft wind brushing against his skin, heard the distant chatter of the citizens. Even from afar, it felt as though he stood at the very center of their hopes and dreams. The warmth of the sun fell on his body, rejuvenating him… making him feel more at peace than he had in years.

His fiery hair—still damp and greasy—clung stubbornly to his head, obscuring the black eye mask resting over his face.

He turned slightly toward Minato." It seems I really missed all this, friend."

Minato's soft voice rang back with familiar warmth." Don't worry now… first things first—get washed, alright?"The two of them had spoken for the entire journey, but Minato still carried that gentle concern in every word.

Kyojiro had no intention of resting when the world had shifted so drastically during his absence. The Third Great Shinobi War was over—Minato was to be crowned Hokage tomorrow… and all of Konoha was soaked in celebration.

But with good news came the kind that carved straight through one's heart.

Obito was dead… At least that's what Minato thinks. Kyojiro could feel the pain in Minato's voice. The man tried to hide it, but it lingered underneath—like a fresh wound that refused to clot.

The next blow came with the news of Rin's death, who sacrificed herself to protect Konoha, taking the Three-Tails with her.

Shaking his head, Kyojiro forced himself to focus on the present. It's about time I start what I meant to.

...

The Uchiha district welcomed him with a warmth he had not expected. The people—men and women alike—didn't truly know much about him. He had neither fought in the war against Kiri nor earned public merit in his own missions.

What they did know was that the man had been captured by Kumo… tortured for two long years… and returned without his eyes.

Pity rippled through every Uchiha he passed. Never in their worst nightmares could they imagine themselves without sight—not even in imagining their worst enemy.

Even Fugaku greeted him personally. And while Kyojiro couldn't see him, he could feel the composed strength of a leader in Fugaku's voice.

Multiple gifts and presents—mostly clothes—were pressed into his hands by people he barely knew. A soft smile lingered across his face through it all.

The Uchiha, despite their own rigid ways, treated him like family… and his heart ached at the realization. This is what I had been missing for the past two years.

Memories of the prison came rushing like a raging river, yet Kyojiro pushed them down. Not now… only after I've completed it.

He smiled, offered gentle thanks, and made his way to his small home.

The place had been cleaned thoroughly beforehand, and though Kyojiro didn't know the benefactor, he mouthed a soft thank you in his mind.

The next two hours were spent simply bathing. He scrubbed every grain of dirt, every trace of grease—every scar of prison life—from his body.

And when he stepped out, the changes were unmistakable.

His fiery hair, grown past his shoulders, looked majestic once more—glowing faintly as if the onset of Chakra had breathed life back into him. His body, still frail and skeleton-like, at least appeared clean. His face looked fairer, the harsh years now softened behind him.

Though he hadn't realized it yet, soft grooves formed naturally beneath his eye sockets—yet even they added to his striking features.

Picking up a black eye mask, he slipped it over his face before changing into simple clothes.

KNOCK.KNOCK.

His ears twitched at the sound. Walking forward, he bumped gently into a few corners—the space was still unfamiliar.

CREAK.

Opening the door, he smiled. Though he couldn't see them, their scents were unmistakable. A soft, earthy perfume—something a woman might wear—yet layered faintly with the lingering aroma of ramen. A cool breeze-like presence radiated beside her… and someone near them smelled distinctly of frogs.

His sight was gone, but his other senses—especially smell and hearing—had sharpened immensely.

" Jiraiya, Minato, and Kushina… I think?"He stepped aside, inviting them in.

He barely finished speaking before someone enveloped him in a crushing hug. Two strong arms clung to him as though he might vanish again.

" Jiraiya-sensei… I'm fine, don't worry."

Kyojiro tried to reassure him, but the Toad Sage broke into booming laughter." My foolish disciple—of course it wasn't easy! Look how thin you've gotten!"He pinched Kyojiro's bicep—which was barely there." I'll make sure to fatten you up this time!"

His hearty voice softened into something fragile." I've been waiting for you, Kyojiro… for two years. I knew my disciple wouldn't die like that."

Kyojiro nodded gently." And I didn't… so don't worry, sensei."

Turning toward the direction of Kushina's scent, he spoke," I believe we haven't met since the academy. Nice to meet you, sister Kushina."

Kushina, who herself had been awkwardly quiet, finally broke into a soft smile." Nice to meet you too. Minato has told me a lot about you."

Another smile curved Kyojiro's lips." All good things, I hope."He shifted toward the cool breeze of Minato's presence." Minato, let everyone sit. I got food from the Uchihas—come help me set it out."

Minato nodded and followed Kyojiro into the kitchen.

They returned with trays of delicious-smelling food—fragrant curries, freshly baked bread, dumplings, beautifully grilled meats, and drinks ranging from alcohol to simple mango juice.

Just like that, the room warmed with conversation. Kushina quickly grew comfortable, and soon the four of them were sharing stories.

Jiraiya spoke about chasing intel across nations and contributing heavily against Suna. Minato's exploits were, unsurprisingly, the highlight—his feats had made two villages fear him. Even Kushina shared tales from her recent missions.

The sun dimmed, the evening breeze drifted gently through the home, and eventually, their time together came to an end.

The moment the three of them left, Kyojiro collapsed onto the bed instantly—falling into deep, exhausted sleep the second his body touched the mattress.

...
