Chapter 23 - 23

Emiya Shirou and the Nine-Tails didn't spend a long time together.

Once, in the ancient era, while Shirou was staying in a small village to heal the sick, he 'coincidentally' saw the young Nine-Tails, which was quite curious about humans but dared not get close.

At that time, it was very cute. Though large, it looked a bit foolishly adorable and would occasionally throw small tantrums like a child. It was curious about the respected Emiya Shirou and liked to secretly follow him, foolishly thinking it could hide its enormous body.

Shirou didn't plan to do anything to it. He just wanted to chat with it, talking about his journey. In the end, the young Nine-Tails wanted to follow him. It even insisted on helping him pull his cart like a little fool.

At that time, it was very happy, because it knew it would no longer feel lonely. Their journey with the slug was a happy one. They saved many patients and saw many sights.

Though humans feared it, the Nine-Tails once wanted Shirou to become its jinchuriki, willing to be sealed inside his body to enhance his chakra. But Shirou refused. It was a great pity.

This short-lived friendship ended quickly.

Shirou did not hide his intention to destroy Ninshu and confront the Sage of Six Paths. After struggling with the decision and failing to persuade him, the Nine-Tails chose to secretly leave him one night.

After all, it was created by the Sage. It had followed Shirou because it believed what the Sage had said, that one day, they, the Tailed Beasts, would meet companions with whom they could form bonds. It still didn't want to be used against its creator. Back then, it was very sad when it left.

Later, it heard about the conflict between Shirou and Ninshu, and the news of his death, which saddened it for a long time.

And then later, it thought that since it could be friends with Shirou, it could also be friends with other humans. It then discovered that humans were not as wonderful as it had imagined.

The Nine-Tails had the ability to sense the good and evil in most humans. Unfortunately, the gap between people was too great. Humans feared its existence, yet coveted its power, wanting to deceive it or take its chakra by force.

These humans... want my chakra? Even my only friend, Emiya Shirou, never got it!

These experiences made the Nine-Tails exceptionally angry. It easily killed those who coveted its power. It slowly grew up, killing more and more people, becoming more and more hostile.

It never met another friend. Finally, in the word of mouth passed down by humans, the most ferocious Tailed Beast in the world was born.

"Kurama," Shirou looked at the now grown, exceptionally ferocious Nine-Tails and shook his head with some regret. "You don't look as cute as when you were a child at all."

"You!" The Nine-Tails bared its teeth angrily, wanting to bite him. This was the first friend in its life, and perhaps the only one. It was because of Shirou that it had the idea of getting along with humans, an idea that brought a painful result.

As it began to conflict with humans, its body was inevitably affected by its emotions, and the chakra of negative emotions like anger, pain, and hatred slowly appeared.cartoontoi

"Forget it! Emiya Shirou, let me go first!" Its gaze shifted to the Hashirama couple, then back to Shirou. "I'm going to kill them!"

"Kurama. Fighting only brings pain and hatred." Shirou repeated the words the Nine-Tails had once said to him. "This is what you told me before you left me."

"You!" The Nine-Tails was almost choked with anger. It never would have thought that after more than a thousand years, it would be hit by the boomerang it had thrown in its own youth and ignorance.

How could I have been so naive!

A group of Konoha ninjas watched in astonishment. They had never thought this ferocious beast could get along with a human so amicably. At least, it was much kinder than before. Compared to its kindness, the most shocking thing was Shirou's identity.

"Emiya Shirou... I didn't mishear, did I?" Hashirama thought of the ninja he admired most in his childhood and realized why he always found Shirou's side profile so familiar. Because as a child, he always liked to secretly look at the half-corpse in the crystal coffin.

"Is it really Lord Emiya?" He suddenly remembered a jutsu his younger brother had mentioned, one he had long ordered to be sealed. "Wait, Tobirama, I remember I told you long ago to seal away the Impure World Reincarnation jutsu!"

This younger brother... it's one thing to ignore my orders! He must have also broken the crystal coffin, the sacred relic of our clan, disturbed the peace of the deceased, and sacrificed a living person's life!

"Brother, this was a measure of last resort," Tobirama crossed his arms. He knew his brother would object, but he had ways to deal with him. "What you should be concerned about now is not Lord Emiya. We should be concerned about that fiend Madara."

He saw the friendly relationship between Shirou and the Nine-Tails and took the initiative to suggest, "Let us handle the rest. Konoha will find a way to protect the Nine-Tails to prevent it from being controlled by Madara's Sharingan again."

His reasoning was sound. "For the Nine-Tails to no longer be controlled by Madara, we might have to take some troublesome measures that restrict its freedom. Madara has already escaped."

"It will take my brother some time to track him down. We have all seen that Madara has signed a summoning contract with the Nine-Tails. He can find it at any time and control it to cause chaos. We must make a choice as soon as possible."

Actually, Tobirama didn't care about Shirou's opinion. He could have forcefully declared that Konoha would decide the Nine-Tails' fate, but he needed to use Shirou to treat his brother, so he was willing to be more euphemistic.

This was a no-win choice. Let Shirou choose whether the Nine-Tails would be 'protected' by Konoha, or continue to be controlled by Madara. With these words, even Shirou couldn't find any fault.

Shirou looked at the Nine-Tails behind him, letting it decide its own fate. "What are your thoughts, Kurama?"

"I want to kill them!" the Nine-Tails squeezed a murderous intent from between its teeth. "The next time that bastard Madara dares to summon me, I will kill that bastard with my own hands!"

Shirou rubbed his forehead.

Wait... are you still boasting? How can you have the nerve when you were just controlled with a single glance?

"How do you plan to 'protect' the Nine-Tails?" he asked Tobirama.

"Lord Emiya," Mito stepped forward, speaking softly. "Konoha originally planned to seal the Nine-Tails within my body, making me its jinchuriki. Actually, strictly speaking, this is not protection, but just to avoid..."

"Hmph!" The Nine-Tails snorted, not very pleased. It remembered a certain thought it had in the past. "The last person who wanted to become a jinchuriki was this fellow, Emiya Shirou."

"Alright, alright," Shirou rubbed his brow, thinking there was something wrong with the fox's memories.

"It was I who wanted to become the Nine-Tails' jinchuriki." He said with regret, "Unfortunately, I'm already dead, so I can't. I don't have that thought anymore, nor do I have the ability."

He looked up at the Nine-Tails, his attitude unprecedentedly honest. "Kurama, you should go find your true companion, a friend who can truly walk with you."
