Chapter 5 - The Unchained beginning

The wave came—but this time it was easy to handle, probably thanks to my luck increasing from the title.

The goblins now felt like nothing more than beginner mobs. In novels, webtoons, even in games, goblins are always the starter enemies—the ones the MC or the player cuts down to grind their power level.

I need these goblins to raise my level. Right now, I'm only E-rank, but if I want to survive what's coming, I'll have to climb past X-rank and become a National Monarch. That title isn't just a rank—it's a throne. Only a handful ever attain it, and the power that comes with it is considered a feat worthy of legends.

Now on the battlefield with nothing but rusted dagger that looks like it's about to break. The fodder keeps coming.

The wave ended without any hitches and I used [Gluttony] and a purple flame shaped like a mouth but with a deeper shade of purple this time, came from beneath the ground and gobbled up the corpses of the goblins.

[Authority: Gluttony used]

"My stats look pretty good at this point now how many minutes until that last wave begins…?"

"…Huh…" I said with a Shocked tone.

[Due to unexpected circumstances]

[The mobs have changed from goblins to Ogre's]

[Time left: 01:00]

"This… this is impossible. This has never happened in the game. What the fuck is going on here?" I muttered, my voice shaking with fear.

Then

[Time left: 00:00]

Here's a tightened, more dramatic version of your passage:

In that instant, the ground shook violently, as if the world itself were about to split apart. But it wasn't an earthquake—it was a massive wave of ogres, easily over five hundred of them. I don't know if the system is trying to kill me, but seriously… why does it have to be like this?

[Good Luck]

"The hell do you mean good luck, you trashy system?!" I snarled. "Ugh… how am I supposed to survive this with a busted knife? For fuck's sake!"

It felt like the world itself was trying to kill me—again. Dying once wasn't enough, apparently. Honestly, this doesn't seem fair at all. Still… let's hope the rewards rise to match the ridiculous level of difficulty the system just dumped on me.

Four Ogre's came at me with seriously terrifying speed, I then tightened my grip on the dagger and sprinted towards the four.

[Death roar used]

Here's a polished and more dramatic version of that moment:

"HAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!"

The roar ripped from my throat, wild and feral. But instead of striking fear into their spines, it echoed back and sank into mine. A shudder rattled through me—but then…

[Enemies can't move for 5 seconds]

Then—Flash Step. In an instant, I was in their faces, slashing furiously, every strike driven by raw determination. Blood sprayed, ogres fell. But in my focus, I forgot the others.

One of them swung a massive club lined with jagged thorns—sharp enough to punch holes clean through a man—and it slammed into my left side. I was launched like a ragdoll, crashing into a tree so hard my spine screamed. Blood filled my mouth as I coughed it out, my vision blurring, my eyes burning red with rage.

"I won't die here!!!"

[Flash step]

I lunged straight at the ogre that had struck me, channeling a basic dagger technique… with nothing but the rusted dagger.

I faced down as the dagger was on my left hand and then a series of massively clean cuts that sent about 15 ogre's cut into multiple pieces.

I roared, my fury spilling out like wildfire—but if only anger alone could kill.

[New skill obtained]

[Berserker Lv. 1]

A skill that floods the user with intense, boiling rage, temporarily amplifying their power tenfold for a limited duration."

"I will slaughter every ogre here—leave nothing behind."

It truly wasn't that bad but the anger and the pain made it worse.

I leapt into the air and slammed down with bone‑shaking force, killing a few outright—but it wasn't enough. I tore through them, sprinting between hulks and slicing heads with nothing but a rusted dagger. Blood trickled from my eyes—not the skill's effect, but my body breaking down from the ogre's earlier blow.

As I cut down the ogres, I felt my energy waning. It wasn't my stamina—it was my mana. Seems the Berserk skill burns through it faster than I expected.

Somehow, that only made me angrier. I gritted my teeth and pushed harder, my strikes becoming a blur of speed and brutal force—mutilating them with every swing.

From the looks of it it seemed I had killed about 400 and only a hundred seemed to remain.

[Beserk skill time limit: 03:54]

The time was limited for me to kill these overgrown goblins.

I then used Flash step which was amplified by Berserk skill. And the effects were amazing, the distance was obviously above 10 meters, I was a blur and I cut them up intensely and it made my body scream even more.

[New skills gained]

[Regeneration Lv. 1]

[Dagger techniques Lv. 1]

With the dagger techniques I'd earned mid fight, fighting became far easier. My body began to regenerate—slowly, but enough to keep me moving. I flashed through them with Flash Step, severing heads with surgical precision. The remaining forty‑odd ogres I impaled with brutal force; their skulls caved beneath my strikes.

Oddly, it thrilled me — a clean sort of satisfaction. Finally, something I could annihilate without it eating at my sanity.

I don't know if this feeling is normal, but I don't care. As long as I grow stronger, the satisfaction of killing doesn't matter to me.

Here's a polished version of your passage with smoother flow and first-person perspective:

After some time, all the ogres lay slain. I stood in the middle of their corpses, panting, chest heaving.

"What a stroke of luck", I muttered, collapsing to the ground and staring up at the sky.

[Rewards are being given]

"Oh, right… the rewards. Let's see what I got. The stat boost is standard enough."

[+10 to all stats]

[Elemental Resistance Lv. 1]

Grants the user resistance to all elemental attacks: lightning, fire, ice, and more.

[Beast Taming Lv. 1]

Allows the user to tame any compatible beast with their power.

"Really basic skills. I was expecting something flashy, like Dragon Skin or Madness Intent, but whatever."

'Since that's done let's get out of here, I could go for bibimbap right now' I thought with my hand slightly brushing my chin.

[Since the player displayed exceptional skill in slaying ogres above their level, additional rewards will be granted.]

"Huh… I wasn't expecting that. Sure, it was tough, but extra rewards? Awesome."

I never thought this would happen. In the game it NEVER happened. But for it to happen here…is it because of the system?

[Extra rewards]

[The authority: Gabriel's Wrath is unlocked]

[Wings of a demon Lv. 1]

Gives the player wings to be able to fly

[Madness intent Lv. 1]

Allows the player to give out an oppressive killing intent that might make others go mad

[Dragon Mana Lv. 1]

The player can do ancient Dragon magic

"This is insane," I muttered.

To think I'd get rewards like this… I was right: high risk, high reward.

And just like that, the X-Factor Dungeon was cleared.
